《Mutation Era》Chapter 1: Hello Mr. Totally-Not-Scary-Bowler-Hat-Guy

“Hah, hah, hahahahahaha!!”.
A figure crazily laughs from within the holy sanctuary. The thing is rapidly changing, at one moment covered with eyes and melting and another moment extremely disturbing, with salivating mouths and teeth all over his body while crying.
In front of the twisted ‘person’, there stands another unusual looking being. It resembles an angel, except extremely twisted. It had no facial features except for eyes all over the head. No ears are seen either. The ‘angel’ had white wings that were covered with blood red mouths that had teeth that were eerily sharp while the rest of its body is surrounded with a pitch black mist.
“So,it was fake all along?”, asked the slightly recovered flesh pile, looking away from the ‘angel’ in front of it. The ‘angel’ didn’t even recognise the question, much less respond to it. Feeling angry, the person mockingly shouted while trying to regain its form, “Answer me, angel. Or are you too busy being a lapdog for-”, it paused. “That?” It spitefully spit out.
The angel just pointed at the amalgamation and caused it to spit blood and collapse. “If I'm going to die either way then I'll go out with a bang!” It screamed, enraged. The ‘angel’ shook its head, feeling slightly regretful. Finally talking, it said, “It seems like you go out with a whimper instead, savior.” Just as it finished its words, a big wooden stake dropped out from the ceiling of the sanctuary and impaled the ‘savior’ into the floor. “You won’t be able to kill me!”, it cried out. Then hundreds of similar looking stakes came out from all angles and kept on skewering the ‘savior’. Finally, a big shining sword appeared out of thin air above the person and fell on it, making the ‘saviors’ body disintegrate.. While disintegrating, the ‘savior’ cried out in apparent immense pain and hatred until it finally turned to ashes.

The holy sanctuary slowly faded from sight as the ‘angel’ watched the ashes of the former ‘savior’ blow away in the wind.. Watching the surroundings, the ‘angel’ walked away, slowly moving into the distance.
…
“Hey Rachael? Can you help me with this? Boss wants it done today but I need to pick up Mason.” Eric -- Rachaels co-worker -- questioned nicely. Mason is Eric's twin brother. Surprised, Rachael turned around and responded, “Sure!”. “Thanks! You’re a lifesaver.” Watching Eric walk away, Rachael looked at the multitude of other tasks that have been handed to her from other people and dryly chuckled. “Looks like I’ll have to stay up all night again.” she thought. Despite spiteing herself for accepting so many of other people's projects, she immediately started working on them. “Hah, if I have to stress myself out like this a few more times, my hair’s going to all fall out.”
Looking at the computer's clock, Rachael saw that it was midnight. While yawning, she thought that this was a nice time to hit the sack. After finishing up whatever she had left, she grabbed her blanket and crawled under her desk.
…
Waking up in the morning, she walked over to the sink and started brushing her teeth and washing her face. When Rachel finished everything, she walked back to her desk just in time to see Eric walking through the door. “Hey Eric!” She called out. Looking at her, Eric responded, “Heya Rachael. Did you stay at the office again?” He looked guilty for pushing his work onto Rachael. “No problem”, she assured. Remembering why he left early, Rachael quickly added, “Family comes first.” “Thanks Rachael!”. After saying a few more pleasantries and Eric passing her a sandwich, they both walked to their computers and started working.

Rachael suddenly remembered that sandwich that Eric gave her. She opened it up and saw that it consisted of a tomato, some lettuce, a few slices of ham and egg and a slice of American cheese. The sandwich just screamed ‘homemade’ but that wasn’t exactly a bad thing. Rachael smiled that Eric brought her breakfast and took a bite. It tasted great. She grinned and shortly after the sandwich was gone.
After an afternoon of working, Rachael felt her stomach rumbling. “Hey Eric, wanna come with me and go get lunch? It’s on me.” Excited, Eric immediately replied, “Obviously. Did you even have to ask?” Playfully, Rachael answered, “Of course. Who knows if you suddenly wanted to roll over and die?”. At this, Eric lightly punched her arm and laughed.
“Ah, that chicken was quite good!”, Eric exclaimed. Side by side, Eric and Rachael walked back to the office after lunch. Seeing something, Rachael wondered out loud, “Huh? What’s happening over there?” “What do you mean… oh” Following her gaze, Eric saw a large group of people crowding around something and quickly understood what she was talking about. “That? I'm- I’m not sure. Wanna go take a look?” “Sure”.
The pair curiously walked towards the large crowd of people. They had difficulty in moving through the dense mob but eventually got to a place where they could see the subject of everyone’s curiosity. Taking a look, they both became astounded. They saw a figure floating in the sky. It was wearing all back, with a bowler hat and cane and seemed to regard flying -- or whatever it was doing -- as a trivial task. “H-How? How is that even possible?” Rachael stuttered, not believing her eyes. Wanting to calm his shaken friend, Eric reassured, “Don’t worry. It’s probably just a movie or a stunt.”.
However, the cloaked man thought this the best time to continue in his performance, directly speaking out to the crowd. “Hello everyone, people of New York, Beijing, Londen, and much more! I assure you, I am everywhere. Your world is currently world 193 to have the chance of meeting me. Who am I? Well I am %&!#!$”
Rachael fell onto her knees, her mind shaken from those intangible words. Raising her head, she could see that the other people around her were also suffering. “Oh, very sorry. I forgot that some names are deadly.” He said, not seeming sorry at all. “Oh well, harmless mistake. Anyways, where was I again? Ah yes, world 193. My presence allows for lots of fun! And mutation. Can’t forget the mutation. Well, see you if you survive, and bye!”

It is none of those things and all those things, mashed together. The MC is Over Powered, but so are many, many others. He just hasn't met them yet. Dear Student, What follows is an adaption of the diary of Emmett Carter before his Ascension. While the decades during and after the Aurora Apocalypse are lost to us, the Ascended himself has allowed us to publish this work so long as we warn the reader that it may not be entirely accurate or present an unbiased viewpoint of the events. One should also note that the Aurora was in flux during that time and some things that were possible in the early days are no longer possible, especially with the advent of the Akashic record. Editors have included footnotes when possible to explain pre-aurora technologies or concepts and how they relate to current magical technologies. The contents of this work may upset readers. If you’ve ever been in a natural disaster, had a house fire, witnessed a murder, lost a loved one to violence, or have a strong opinion on the sanctity of life, please do not read this. It contains dramatic scenes of a world in the throes of an apocalyptic event. There are no rainbows and unicorns, only loss, uncertainty, and death while the survivors struggle to rebuild their lives. Updates Thursdays and Sundays for now.
