《Mutation Era》Chapter Interlude: Eric’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Bun-Bun Day.

Eric sat up in bed, covered in cold sweat. He had just dreamt the most ridiculous dream about people turning into big humanoid bunnies and attacking everyone, including him. He usually wouldn’t be so nervous, but it just didn’t seem like just a dream. It seemed like reality, if not a prediction of the future. Eric quickly got his breathing in check, though. He reassured himself that it was just a dream, and there was no way that it was something other than a dream.
He got out of bed and started his morning routine, but all throughout it, Eric just kept thinking about his dream. Even when he tried to forget about it or ignore it, he just couldn’t. It just always floated from the back of his mind, and kept bothering him. Even with this distraction however, Eric quickly finished everything he had to do in the morning, including a quick breakfast consisting of eggs, toast and a cup of coffee.
He went on his way, taking a nice quick walk, or what would’ve been a nice walk if he didn’t have that nightmare that kept annoying him. Eric got to his workplace and sat down, not at all surprised to see his co-worker, Rachael, here before him. She was always an early bird, and would usually wake at around 5:30. Eric is quite the opposite. If he didn’t have to go to work, he would wake at 12.
Eric sat down at his desk and started working. However, just like earlier in the day, he just couldn’t focus. He flinched at everything and all ideas flew out of his mind, leaving his brain blank aside from the nightmare. He decided to take a break for the day and leave.
“Hey Rachael? Can you help me with this? Boss wants it done today but I need to pick up Mason, my twin brother.”

She agreed to my request despite her already accepting so many other loose projects from our other co-workers and I felt guilty for lying to her and adding onto her workload just because of a weird nightmare. Eric also didn’t have a twin brother.
He walked out of the office building, found a nearby bench and sat down, letting out a big sigh. Thinking over his plans for the day, he remembered that he didn’t have any other plans except for his project which he had, guiltily, handed to Rachael. Eric thought it over and went back home, deciding to hit the sack earlier than before.
…
Beginning the next day, Eric started it out by having the same dream and doing his morning routine. He went out and today, made a breakfast sandwich instead of scrambled eggs and toast. Eric then walked to his job and opened his door, very surprised to see Rachael there because he, today, came much earlier then she used to come. He then remembered all the projects that she had to do yesterday and felt a bit bad as she most likely stayed overnight.
Seeing that he had walked in, Rachael smiled at him. “Hey Eric!” She waved to him. Looking at her, Eric responded, “Heya Rachael. Did you stay at the office overnight, again?” “No problem”, she assured him. After that, Rachael quickly added, “Family comes first.” Eric meekly added a “Thanks Rachael!” after embarrassedly walking to his station, but not before passing another sandwich he had made to her.
Eric felt very bad for lying to Rachael and making her stay here. His guilt was enough for him to momentarily forget about his dream. “Hey Eric, wanna come with me and go get lunch? It’s on me.” Eric heard her voice and, after realising that he was pretty hungry, excitedly responded “Obviously. Did you even have to ask?” Playfully, Rachael answered, “Of course. Who knows if you suddenly wanted to roll over and die?”. Eric lightly punched her arm and laughed, finally having some much needed relief.

“Ah, that chicken was quite good!”, Eric exclaimed. Side by side, Eric and Rachael walked back to the office after lunch. Suddenly, Rachael exclaimed, “Huh? What’s happening over there?” “What do you mean… oh” Eric looked at what she was looking at and saw a large group of people crowding around something and quickly understood what she was talking about. “That? I'm- I’m not sure. Wanna go take a look?” “Sure”.
They quickly walked towards the large crowd, and squeezed between them to see what they were all crowding here for. Looking up, Eric pointed up to the subject of their curiosity. It was a flying/hovering man in the sky, wearing all black and a black bowler hat. “H-How? How is that even possible?” Rachael stuttered, looking very starstruck indeed. Wanting to calm his shaken friend, Eric reassured, “Don’t worry. It’s probably just a movie or a stunt.” Though, Eric didn’t quite believe his words himself, as he somehow saw this scene somewhere, but he couldn’t quite remember.
At this time, the man decided to start speaking. However, Eric wasn’t paying attention. He was still thinking about where he had seen this sight before. But all of a sudden, a burst of pain interrupted Eric and sent him down to his knees. “Oh, very sorry. I forgot that some names are deadly.” He said, not seeming sorry at all. “Oh well, harmless mistake. Anyways, where was I again? Ah yes, world 193. My presence allows for lots of fun! And mutation. Can’t forget the mutation. Well, see you if you survive, and bye!”
Eri was even more convinced that he had seen this before, but he didn’t put a finger on what it was. It was when some people started morphing in giant bloodthirsty bunnies when he remembered. It was his dream! This was the exact set of things that happened in his dream. Eric was amazed. How? How could this just be like his dream? But then he thought, if this followed the events of his ‘dream’, the next thing that would happen is a demon-bunny would jump forwards and attack someone. Just then, a big demon-bunny jumped beside him and hit him, making him crash into a nearby building.
While flying back, he could vaguely hear someone calling out to him but he couldn’t quite make out what it was. When his back hit the wall, he could hear a multitude of cracking noises and a searing pain in the back of torso. Eric let out a moan of intense pain while slumping down, and the last thing he saw was a demon-bunny jumping at him before his head got sliced off.
