《Son of Sparta》Son of Sparta: Hidden Talents

It took Kyren thirty minutes to just catch a glimpse of Mors's back. The guy's speed was inhuman. Kyren opted on catching up to the two who were a couple of meters ahead of him, Livia and Jasper. He informed them of what Major Void said about the staff and how she would be only pursuing golden ticket holders. The girl nodded and Jasper giggled. Kyren took the time to strike up small-talk with Livia whenever he could, much to his delight she would respond as if she was actually interested. This made him happy, it was nice talking to someone who enjoyed talking as much as he did, he didn't get that often. They ran for quite some time.
"Guys, I'm tired." Jasper whined as his sprint became more of a sloggish jog.
Kyren could sympathize with Jasper as he too felt himself becoming a little fatigued.
"Maybe we should rest for a while? We've been running for about an hour now..." Kyren asked Livia, he trailed her vision and seen that she was gazing at Mors, seemingly locked on to his back. Kyren felt a tinge of jealousy and envy but did his best to not let it show on his face.
"Let's try for another two more miles and then we can rest. I just want to put as much distance between us and her as possible." Livia said, finally taking her hazel-brown eyes off of what she was previously entranced with and looking at Kyren.
His heart skipped a beat.
She was gorgeous.
"err...uh, yeah, sure we can run for two more miles." Kyren stuttered out, bewitched by her beauty.
Jasper made a noise that resembled a yowl and sat down, "I'm not going."
Kyren made a difficult expression. He did not know what to do.

Livia turned to Kyren, "You and I can travel together without him, It's not like we need him for anything."
Kyren awkwardly scratched his head and laughed, "Uh...I don't know. There is a possibility we might need him...let's just rest for a few minutes, The sun's still high, we'll make it before dawn I am sure of it." He tried to mediate the growing tension.
"Fine. Whatever. I just thought you would want to spend time with me alone...guess I was wrong..."
"Jasper, I'm sorry but we'll be going on ahead." Kyren said with complete seriousness as he took off with Livia, leaving Jasper behind.
Jasper felt sad his friend casted him aside so he called on the one person who he knew would come play with him.
He sucked in a breath and with a roar he shouted, "MORS! COME PLAY! I HAVE FOOD!" His voice was so deep that it reverberated throughout the vicinity for all to hear.
Livia, who was not too far away from Jasper burst out in a fit of laughter, noting how stupid Jasper was for thinking something like that would ever work.
Kyren face-palmed as he felt vibrations of the sandy floor. Mors was coming. And fast too.
Mors looked down at his friend who had just LITERALLY coughed up two whole fishes, in disgust. Absolute disgust. He couldn't say anything. He had nothing to say.
Jasper patted a spot next to him as he looked up at Mors innocently," (=•́ܫ•̀=)... Aren't you tired buddy? Have a seat." Jasper's tail swishing behind him playfully.
Mors sat but still did not speak.
"Ah, I get it...You are more of a steak person, I see, I see. One second..." Jasper said as he began to retch, a calloused hand placed itself on his shoulder.

Jasper looked to see Mors way~ too close, close enough for them to hear each other's heartbeat.
"Jasper...for the love of everything holy....and for my sanity...Do Not do what you are about to do."
"But I want you to ea--"
"(ಠ益ಠ) I SAID CEASE!!!"
Jasper broke out in laughter at the face Mors made. Holding his stomach while rolling around. He stopped when he heard the sounds of two sets of footsteps getting closer, he recognized their smells and started to hiss. Wrapping his tail around Mors's neck while seemingly guarding him from an unknown threat.
It was revealed that the two were Kyren and that girl Mors didn't know.
"Didn't I pass you two on the way here? Why would you turn around?" Questioned Mors. Their actions seem odd and so is Jasper's reaction to them, He thought they were on good terms...he deduced something must've happened.
"Haha because we seen you bolting away so fast, we thought it was a wild beast chasing you haha.." Kyren said with a smile.
Mors knew something was up. He just didn't know what.
Mors called for Jasper to come with him as for he was leaving, Kyren blocked Mors's path.
"Hey brother, how much do you know about magic?" Kyren asked Mors.
"Not that much, Excuse us."
Kyren blocked their way again, "How about I teach you how to enter your Inner Realm, It's a real easy step for you to achieve."
Mors raised his brow, "Why would you do that for me? What would you gain from it?"
"Strength. As a team, we all grow as one. Let what I am about to tell you all stay between us.....I actually am a mage."
"Bullshit, prove it."
As If Kyren wanted to hear those words, he started to pat his pockets and shake his sleeves, "See? ya' see?.....Ta-Da!" He finished as he pulled a 6ft Bo staff from out his pocket.
Mors literally jumped,"WHAT! HOW!?" He shouted, to the displeasure of Jasper who hissed at him. Mors scratched behind Jasper's ear eliciting a purr from him as his tail found its' way around Mors.
"It's magic, I told you." Kyren said as he made his staff re-enter his sub-dimensional space.
"Teach. Me. The. Sauce."
Kyren did not understand what he meant by that but he assumed that Mors was intrigued enough for him and Livia to start on the next step of their plan.
"Sure, no problem. Just mimic my movements and breathing."
Mors did as instructed and sat in a cross-legged position while inhaling through his nose and out from his mouth at set intervals, just as Kyren is currently doing.
"Now the next step is tricky. You now have to feel the mana in your surroundings and pull it into you, kinda like a whirlpool. Don't worry if you don't get it, this part usually takes days, if not mont--"
"I feel it."
"I beg your pardon?"
"I feel it. The mana. What's next?"
"It hasn't even been thirty seconds yet, how could you have poss--"
"These blue and white illuminated particles are mana, right?
"...You can even...see it...too..."
"Yeah, What's next?"
"...."
"What's next?"
"...."
"What's next?"

Journeys in the Fairworld: The Gatekeeper
Lindsey Fluger was only slightly past eighteen. There was nothing particularly special about her, save that she happened to be the right person at the right time. When Lindsey is asked to join an expedition to another world she makes the mistake of saying yes, plunging herself into a sea of perilous adventure and dark intrigue. Journeys in the Fairworld is a fantasy anthology series set in The Fairworld, a magical realm existing in parallel with our own world which is governed by a group elfin beings known only as “The Good Folk”. These mysterious entities work in secret to keep the peace between the myriad of peoples and nations which dwell in The Fairworld. Complex relationships and bitter rivalries emerge against a backdrop of constrained resources and conflicting values to produce a world of high adventure and tangled mysteries. This novel is technically already completed, and I am currently in the final stages of proofing or editing. As such, there may be a few typos and errors here and there. The final version should be about 130,000 words long, which I will be releasing in stages as I continue editing. I'd love to hear your feedback and comments! If you want to read more stories from Journeys in the Fairworld, please checkout “Journeys in the Fairworld: The Brigand of Potham”, which is also available here on Royal Road Legends. https://www.royalroadl.com/fiction/19369/journeys-in-the-fairworld-the-brigand-of-potham
