《Miracle Angeliva》Chapter 22 - Becoming a Disciple

Half an hour later, Mir joined Fred and Raleigh to Raleigh’s master’s place. Surprisingly, it was not far. It was in the downtown area. And to be more accurate, it was in one of the apartment studios in the downtown area.
“What is it? You never imagine someone so exalted living in a place like this?” Fred chortled as they arrived in the studio. That question reminded her of Orion’s reaction when he knew Mir was living a normal life just like any other high school student.
“…no.” Mir replied.
“Don’t worry, even though Raleigh always praised her as high as the sky, she is actually down to earth. Oh, I almost forgot to remind you though. She has a habit that most people… well, most people can’t stand it. So, be careful.”
Fred reminded her as they arrived in front of her door. There were only two of them now because Raleigh was still recovering from the mental damage. Mir wanted to ask what kind of habit she had, but before she could ask, Fred already knocked on the door.
The door opened almost immediately. Behind the door was a woman with long brunette hair. She was holding her stomach and there was a silver sparkle in the corner of her eyes. Mir thought that the woman was crying, though she didn’t look sad.
“Oh, it’s you, huh? Where is that brat? He doesn’t come?” The woman asked. She looked left and right, looking for someone. Without a doubt, she was looking for Raleigh since she didn’t see Raleigh with them.
“He is recovering in the car now. More importantly, Miss Kayern, Mir. Mir, Miss Kayern.” Fred introduced them casually. Mir nodded as she repeated her name. As for the woman called Kayern, she observed Mir thoroughly.
“Mm, as expected. Alright, Mir, come in.” Kayern pulled her hand and Mir entered the room. Before Fred could enter, however, Kayern glared at him. “As for you, you can go home for today. I’ll call you to take her home tonight. Ciao!”
And she shut the door right in front of his nose. Fred awkwardly scratched his nose as he heard the sound of the key turning, locking the door effectively.
“Well, good luck, Mir.” Fred smiled awkwardly as he went home together with Raleigh.
After making sure that Fred was gone, Kayern smiled at the confused Mir. Mir didn’t understand what she was thinking as she was pulled into the room. While she was thinking, Kayern suddenly rubbed her head with a cheerful smile.
“Good job surviving on that hell, Mir.” She praised Mir. To say the amusement park was hell, Mir thought that Kayern might know more about the amusement park. Though Mir was also curious since Raleigh said that no one survived once they entered that haunting ground.
“…thanks.” Mir nodded. That was not important though. More importantly, she was wondering why Kayern, Raleigh's teacher, called her to this place.
“Now then, those brats aren’t coming, I can show you something good! Come, come, let’s watch this together!” Once again, Kayern pulled Mir’s hand and forced her to sit in front of the computer. Without waiting, Kayern played the video. It was the video when she was in the Doll Castle. More specifically speaking, it was the scene where she just met Raleigh. Yes, that time when Raleigh was crying with snots and tears on his face as he hugged Mir. That scene.

“Ahahaha! Look at that face! I never saw him with that kind of pathetic face before! Good job on recording his pathetic face, Mir!” Kayern gave a thumb up at Mir.
“…”
Mir silently looked at the video. It seemed Kayern made a loop on that scene. And now, she was laughing non-stop because of that. So, the tears in the corner of her eyes and the reason why she was holding her stomach were because she laughed so hard…
Mir silently paused the video because if she didn’t do that, Kayern would laugh all day long. She was still laughing on the floor even though the video was paused.
It took more than fifteen minutes before she stopped laughing.
But she still sometimes stifled laughter though.
“…ah, that was truly a good refreshing time!” Kayern let out a last laugh before she turned to Mir with a serious expression.
“Well, anyway, Mir, that’s your name? Will you tell me your full name?” She asked. Mir stared at her eyes. They were the eyes of curiosity.
“…” Mir hesitated a bit. She finally sighed and decided to tell her. Everyone in the class knew her name already. Even if one person knew it, she didn’t care.
“…Miracle Angeliva.”
After telling her name, Mir expected Kayern to laugh like other people. However, when she saw her face, Kayern showed a sad smile, though only for an instant. In the next instant, she smiled and patted Mir’s head gently.
“Miracle, huh? What a good name.” She smiled at her. Mir heard someone telling her that she had a good name besides her parents for the first time. For some reason, Mir couldn’t hold back the surge of emotions welling up from her chest. She tried not to show it on her face, but before she knew it, that surge of emotion turned into tears that flowed endlessly and she was helpless to stop it. She silently turned around as she didn't want to show her tears to a person she just met a few minutes ago. After all, she was not Raleigh...
“You had a hard life, eh? Don’t worry about those stupid brats, they don’t understand how your parents feel.” Kayern gently hugged her head as Mir cried uncontrollably.
It took another fifteen minutes before Mir calmed down.
After calming down, Mir looked at Kayern, embarrassed of what she did. But Kayern didn’t say anything to Mir. Instead, she started cooking.
“…help?” Mir asked timidly. For the first time, she acted this way. Previously, she never acted timidly no matter what, but now, she was embarrassed because it was also the first time she cried in front of other people besides her parents.
“Yes, thank you. Please wash the vegetables.” Kayern pointed at the pile of vegetables with her chin.
“…nn.” Mir nodded and started washing them.
“So, Mir, let’s talk while cooking.” Kayern started the conversation. “You know, I’ve been watching the video numerous times and every time I saw it, I saw your potential. And I can’t help but ask you this question.”
“…”
“Will you be my disciple?” Kayern asked Mir in serious tones.
“…”
Mir didn’t know what to say. Usually, people would ask the teacher to be their teacher. It was really rare for a teacher to ask someone to be their disciple. However, that also meant that Kayern was serious in wanting Mir to be her disciple.

“…nn.” Mir nodded as she faced Kayern.
“Really? Do you really want to be my disciple? You have heard about me from my stupid apprentice and that brat Fred, right?”
For some reason, Kayern’s eyes shone brightly when Mir nodded to her. That made Mir remember what Fred said before he knocked on the door. Kayern had a habit that not all people could stand with her, but as far as she knew, Kayern didn’t show any habit that made her repulsive to others.
So, Mir nodded once again.
“Great!” Once again, Kayern hugged Mir excitedly. Awkwardly, Mir tried to look at Kayern’s face as Kayern was far taller than her. She might be even taller than most men that she had ever seen.
“Mir, will you obediently do everything that I say? Even if I order you to face a very dangerous evil spirit without telling you the reason, will you do it?” Kayern asked while still hugging Mir.
“…maybe.” She answered honestly.
“Ugh, this is the first time my disciple doesn’t answer yes! Why? Tell me the reason?” Kayern asked curiously.
“…won’t abandon even if ordered to.” Mir replied after trying to find the right words for it.
“Heh, is that so? Well, unlike the others, you are not stupid and you think ahead. That makes me love you even more!” Kayern tightened her hug on Mir.
“…but if it’s other orders… maybe yes.” Mir said with a bit of difficulty. Difficulty in making a long sentence and also the difficulty of breathing because Kayern hugged her tightly and her face was buried in Kayern’s bountiful chest.
“Good girl! Well, for now, let’s continue cooking, or else we won’t have lunch today!” She laughed as she finally released Mir from her chest.
“…” Mir nodded and they continued cooking.
…
After they ate, Kayern smiled at Mir as she asked Mir to stood still in the middle of the room. Kayern looked at Mir as if she was measuring Mir with her eyes… well, that was actually what she did. After a few minutes, Kayern entered her room and when he returned, there were dresses in her hands.
“…Master?” Mir asked as she saw those dresses.
“Hm? You said that if it’s other orders, you will obediently follow them, right? Mm, I really need your help with my work. You see, besides as a Ghost Hunter, I also work as a designer. That is why, Mir, why don’t you try whether they fit you or not.” Kayern said with a sincere smile.
“…” Mir looked at the dresses in Kayern’s hands. There were more than a dozen of them. Mir suddenly had a headache as she couldn’t refuse Kayern. She already said that she wouldn’t refuse her other orders after all.
“…” The problem, however, was the design of those dresses. Mir had watched a fashion design show once on television. Those models wore weird dresses, sure. But even though they were weird, they were beautiful and some had a lot of frills while some looked simple yet elegant. Or rather, even though they were beautiful, they were weird...
However, the dresses in Kayern’s hands were full of frills and gave Mir fluffy feelings. She didn’t know whether that was really Kayern’s style or perhaps she only took out the frillies ones. Furthermore, those dresses were in bright colors. Everything was bright. Yellow, pink, light blue… there was no one in darker color tones.
“…they won’t suit…” Mir tried to refuse, but Kayern smiled as she took a step forward.
“No, don’t say that, my dear Mir. You see, I’m proud of my sense as a fashion designer. When I saw you the first time, I saw your potential as a model, you see. That is why I ask that stupid apprentice of mine to bring you here. And then, I also asked you to be my disciple, right? Now, you are my disciple as a former model and fashion designer.” Kayern smiled deeply as she explained everything to Mir.
“…not ghost hunter?” Mir asked as she felt she was tricked into agreeing to it.
“Oh, that. Mm, you also have potential as a ghost hunter. But you have potential as my model as well. So, you see, potential and potential become great potential! Also, you have another potential that I won’t mention without seeing you in another three years!” Kayern explained as if it were a matter of fact.
“...” Mir tried to find another reason to refuse, but Kayern took another step forward. She took out her phone and smiled at Mir.
“Well, I know you are embarrassed, but, let’s see… ah, here it is.” Kayern showed a video to Mir.
It was a video of a beautiful young girl, perhaps around her age. She was wearing dresses just like those in Kayern’s hands. There was a bright wand in her hand. And then, she raised the wand, and she had a cute pose before reciting her lines.
“In the name of Luna, I will punish you!”
“…” Mir was speechless when she heard it. It was a familiar voice. No, it was familiar, but it sounded younger. However, she knew whose voice was that. When she looked at Kayern’s face, Kayern confirmed with a huge smile.
“Yep, that’s him. That is Raleigh. I think it was five or seven years ago when he still hasn’t grown up like now? Look, his face doesn’t show any embarrassment, right? Even a boy like him doesn’t get embarrassed doing embarrassing… cough, doing cool things like this. You shouldn’t too. Well, anyway, I believe that with your figure, you will stay small forever and that is why, no matter how old you are, you can wear these kinds of dresses without being embarrassed!” Kayern proclaimed loudly.
“…” Master, when Raleigh dies, won't he become an evil spirit to hide this embarrassing past of him? Was what Mir thought inwardly, but she didn't say it.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
