《Chaos Sequence》Chapter 27: Every war needs some espionage

"So we got good news and we got bad news which one you want first Capt.?" Dealer smiled.
The US soldiers had returned back to base and were sitting around the kitchen table. She hoped that Savage would pick the good news and completely ignored that she said something about bad news. The Sweeper Squadron/Guard Retrieval Team had accomplished their mission but at a cost.
"Alright bad news first, fire away Private Dealer."
"Oh... okay. Soooo Sweeper's gone." Dealer gave two thumbs up as she shifted uncomfortably in her chair.
"What do you mean Sweeper's gone?" Savage slammed her hands on the table as she got up.
"I mean she's been kidnapped. But, uh, not by the guys that kidnapped Guard but the UCNA guys instead." Dealer explained to Savage.
Savage squinted her eyes at Dealer, she knew that the mission wouldn't be easy since they were going up against an armed group but she wondered how the UCNA got involved in this mess.
"Did the UCNA paid the kidnappers to snatch Guard?"
"No, the UCNA just happened to be nearby." Dealer explained. "Guard can tell you about the kidnappers."
Dealer quickly passed the torch to Guard as she got up from her chair and hid behind Reaper.
"Hey Sav- I mean Captain Savage, I'm back!" Guard waved his hand, he had told Dealer everything in the car and had thought that she would be the one to explain everything but, whatever, this wasn't a problem for him. "Apparently those kidnappers are actually part of the US army."
"Really? Is there any proof of this?"
Shooting at your own was something Savage was taught never to do, this is especially true if they are human. Human soldiers are rare and usually placed in more defensive roles that are in relatively safe locations thereby keeping them from harm. The uncommon human soldiers that are in offensive roles tend to be Special Forces which the kidnappers would most likely be since they were this far out in the frontlines.
"Well they didn't show any proof," Guard tried to think about anything else that could prove they were on their side. "but they did have matching outfits and fancy equipment."
This was a problem Savage thought to herself. Matching outfits and fancy equipment perfectly described the Special Forces, they had access to things that the average person would think can only come from movies. Guard had injured at least one of them and she had given orders for them to go on the offensive against the Special Forces.
"Did you get the rank of their leader?" This was the last hope for Savage, they would be in big trouble depending on the answer.

"I remember him being Sergeant, just Sergeant I think." Guard replied.
Savage sat back on her chair, relieved. In the army, humans are considered 3 ranks higher than androids so a human corporal would be able to boss around an android corporal. Since Savage is a captain she was the superior even if he was a human.
"Good! I can pull rank if he tries to complain about me." Savage laughed.
"Wait, that's what your worried about?" Dealer spoke out from behind Reaper.
"He did start it first and since he's a lower rank than me it's his blunder alone!" Savage let out an even louder laugh, it took a minute before she calmed down. "Anyways the UCNA most likely took Sweeper to their base to interrogate her but knowing Sweeper, she won't crack so easily. What's the good news?"
Dealer stepped out from behind Reaper. "We got Guard back! Buuuut I think you already know that..."
"Anything else?"
"No." Reaper responded.
Savage rubbed her forehead, Sweeper was gone but if they can convince the Special Forces to work with them they could use them to help rescue her and takedown the UCNA at the same time. The only problem is tracking them down again. A thought came to Savage's mind.
"What are they doing out here Private Guard?" She asked Guard, hoping that they would've heard something from them.
"Oh I don't exactly remember, I think it had something to do with criminals?" Guard kinda zoned out a bit during his talk with Hallengir but he did manage to listen to the important stuff or at least what Guard thought was important. "We played card games!"
"That's... great. Criminals huh? It must have something to do with the militia!" Savage snapped her fingers.
"Or it could be us... we do have a droid." Dealer pointed at Mirabelle who was staring vacantly at a wall.
"You didn't happen to tell them about that, did ya Private Guard?" The Captain looked pleadingly at Guard.
"No. But I did say something about a tall girl, oh! We could say she's a basketball model!"
Everything is going fine, warcrimes are only crimes if you get caught and as long as everyone else is convinced that Mirabelle is a regular 7'9 android girl then everything will be alright. It also doesn't look like they would be able to get in contact with the Special Forces so they'll just have to continue without them. With that out of the way, Savage can now talk about the plan she's been working on.
"I have a new plan! And for simplicity sake we'll throw out all the old plans from A to Z and call this the new plan A!"

"Ooh a rebrand!" Guard said outloud.
"I like your spirit Private Guard!" Savage raised her fist to the air. "This new plan A will involve disguises!" She clapped her hands and Mirabelle instantly turned around holding out a pair of distinctive clothes.
"There's only two of them." They were also similar to what the militia were wearing, Dealer leaned in to closely examine them. "Yep and still tacky."
"That means I've made them perfectly."
"You made these Captain?" Guard said in a surprised tone.
"Yes, I can do anything if I put my mind to it!" She clapped her hands loudly again to get everyone back on track, she grabbed one of the outfits from Mirabelle and held it out proudly for the group to see. "We will use these to blend into the militia, we'll be able to sabotage them from the inside while the rest of you will be outside distracting them."
"That outfit looks perfect for a gremlin so I'm assuming you'll be one of the infiltrators Capt., so who'll be in the regular size one?" Dealer laughed but was stopped suddenly when Savage yanked one of her pigtails.
"Can I do it?" Reaper raised her hand.
"Huh? Sure thing Private First Class Reaper." Both Savage and Dealer were still having a little scuffle, the smaller android easily overpowered the larger one and they took the fight to the ground.
While that was happening Guard was suggesting the types of personality that Reaper could use for her disguise. An overserious bookworm, a stern but caring widow and a mysterious vagabond were just some of the suggestions.
"I don't think I have the acting capabilities to pull any of them off, it might just be better if I continue to be me." Reaper said.
"But those UCNA guys have seen you multiple times right?" Guard was worried that they might be able to recognize her.
"I wouldn't worry about that, the hood will cover my face and I'll try my best not to stand out."
As they finished up their discussion they were tripped over by Savage and Dealer rolling on the ground.
"It was just a joke!" Dealer screamed as both her pigtails were now being pulled on.
"I'll show you a joke Private Dealer!" Savage was now on top and before she could do anything else she was picked up by Mirabelle. "Hey! What are you doing Corporal Mirabelle?"
"No. Fighting. We are on the. Same side." The droid quickly broke up the fight and placed the Captain back down.
"Hmph. I'll let you off the hook this time Private Dealer." She brushed the dust off her uniform before continuing. "Me and Private First Class Reaper will be the ones to sneak into the UCNA base, you three will be in handling the distraction part."
"How are we going to distract them." Dealer said while struggling to stand.
"You can pretend to negotiate to get Sweeper back."
"Don't worry Dealer, let me do the talking." Guard pointed at himself confidently. "I have experience in hostage negotiations."
"That'll be all. We'll group back tomorrow morning after you all rest up and then head out." Savage dismissed them.
Before anyone else could even make a move, Guard bounced up and stopped Savage. There was something that he had forgot to mention.
"Captain... I told everyone else already except for you and Mirabelle. I'm actually a male if you guys were confused before."
"They make males? I mean, yeah of course they would make male androids ha..." She fell into deep thought as she tried to recall any male androids that she had met in the past but nothing came up, everyone in the base before the incident were females as well. In her 8 years of existence she had not met a single male android, there was either a severe lack of them or she was not hanging out in the right areas.
"I'm curious Guard." Dealer approached the two. "What's the difference between us? You know, other than the lack of" Dealer whistled and pointed at her chest.
"Ehh, I-I'm not sure really..."
"Do you have a, ahem, you know what?" Dealer got up close and whispered into his ear.
"I actually never really checked cause we don't need to go to the bathroom." Guard pondered the necessity of having one. "I should go check right now!"
Before Guard could do that, Savage grabbed him and pulled him back into the room.
"Let's not do that. Anyways, I'm promoting you to Corporal. Not because you're male or anything, I didn't know when I was planning it. You have a very feminine voice by the way."
"Why thank you." Guard replied.
"Private First Class Reaper." Savage turned her attention to the girl in black. "You're also being promoted to Corporal cause we need to fill out our ranks and in no way is it because I'm tried of saying Private First Class, yeah that sounds right..."
"Thank you Ma'am." She saluted the Captain.
Savage finally turned to look at Dealer. "Alright everyone, dismissed!" And she walked out of the room.
"Well... I'll probably get a promotion once we all horribly die." Dealer being the last one out of the room closed the lights.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).
