《Rising of the Red Tide》Chapter 14 (Part 3)

Qi Jiguang drove at a safe distance from the last vehicle that left Plattsburgh family health. Han Xin knew they were outnumbered and outgunned by these soldiers and did not want to draw any unnecessary attention to himself, nor to his soldiers.
"Qi Jiguang, about how long do you think it will be until our first wave of reinforcements will arrive? I know you told me before, but remind me." Han Xin asked.
"A couple of hours sir. And there should be enough to take on this group they have here. I estimate there are about 150 or so of the American soldiers, we should be getting in excess of 200 in our first wave." Qi Jiguang replied, trying to anticipate other questions Han Xin might have.
"Thank you Qi Jiguang. However if we can avoid having to wait, I would prefer it." Han Xin said.
Han Xin then watched as the cars ahead of them began turning different directions.
"Ah, so they do not know where Qi Lian has gone. They are fanning out over the city. Pull over here." Han Xin orderd.
Qi Jiguang pulled the car into a nearby parking lot.
"Now we need to figure out where she would have gone." Han stated, while looking at his watch.
Qi Jiguang sat looking at his watch as well. They were searching through the various locations that lay ahead of them.
"Look Qi Jiguang. This has got to be it. There is the fallout shelter in this direction." Han yelled excitedly.
"Sir you think she would go to the bomb shelter? Why? What use would that be now?" Qi Jiguang asked.
"Don't you see, if we are going to blow up the world and you can't really fight back at the moment, this is the place to go. At least you can survive and fight back later. This is precisely the kind of thing I was worried about. We do not need Qi Lian leading a rebellion!" Han Xin explained.

Qi Jiguang shook his head to show that he understood. Without a word he put the car in drive and headed toward the bomb shelter. Qi Jiguang was driving rather quickly until he noticed that straight ahead of him was one of the vehicles carrying the American soldiers. He now slowed down to keep a safe distance.
"I need everyone to head to the bomb shelter near the Plattsburgh town hall." Han Xin spoke into his watch radio.
Han Xin watched as the car ahead of them began to pull around the corner. He looked up at the building and saw just how awful it looked. This building looked as though it was just about to fall in on itself right now. More of the rot he had seen all around. The sight of it disgusted him. Humans were clearly doing a terrible job.
Han looked away from the building when he heard the screeching of tires. The car carrying American soldiers had come to a complete stop. At first Han thought, "have we been discovered?" But that thought quickly dissipated as he saw the soldiers getting out of the car, facing the other direction. They were yelling something that he could not discern.
Qi Jiguang pulled the car over a safe distance away and awaited instructions. Han Xin watched as the soldiers moved forward and out of view.
"I have a crazy idea Qi Jiguang. I want two of the cars here blocking traffic from both directions. Have them pull facing each other right next to this building. And I want you to drive around the car with soldiers. Let us use the confusion to our advantage." Han ordered.
"Yes sir." Qi Jiguang replied.
Qi Jiguang relayed the order into his watch radio and then began driving around the SUV that had been carrying the American soldiers. He gave plenty of space to avoid drawing attention to the Red Tide soldiers. Han then noticed the van he had seen earlier parked across the street.

"Pull in next to the van. I think that was the van that must have been carrying Qi Lian. Remember earlier the van that passed by at high speed?" Han Xin asked.
"Yes that does at least look similar." Qi Jiguang responded.
Qi Jiguang did as Han had requested. After pulling next to the van they watched as the American soldiers walked slowly toward a group of people. A couple of the people Han did not recognize, but there were two faces that remained emblazoned in his mind, that of Qi Lian and Clayton Johnson.
"There they are! We have them now." Han said.
"But sir, won't the other soldiers arrive soon?" Qi Jiguang asked, knowing they would be outnumbered.
"Tell our men after blocking the road to strap up the cars and come to us. That will take care of that problem." Han Xin requested.
Qi Jiguang now understood how the situation would play out. He relayed the next set of orders.
"There are only 5 of the American soldiers. I think that we can handle that problem." Han Xin stated.
Han looked up and noticed his men coming around the corner.
"Now is the time." Han said, getting out of the vehicle.
Qi Jiguang and 2 other Red Tide soldiers followed suit. As they began walking toward the group, Han heard a car window in the van rolling down.
"Y'all need to look out!" Were the next words Han heard spoken.

The Essence of Cultivation
After experiencing five years of an adventurer's life, Arcanist Sylar Wershin now spends his days catching up on developments in Essence Studies and teasing apart the functions of arcane trinkets and artifacts discovered by him and his companions throughout their time travelling the realms of Resham. An unexpected accident during the study of his latest subject of intrigue, however, displaces him across the Planes beyond what any known spell is capable of achieving. Now finding himself lost in a realm rich in previously-limited Transcendental Essences, however, does he truly even want to return back to his old world? If nothing else, plagiarising - ahem, learning new spell structures by observing the local mages should prove entertaining. Sure, there were new dangers in this foreign world, but they wouldn't be anything a fancy bit of spellwork couldn't solve. Though, he would appreciate it greatly if someone could explain to him just what this 'cultivation' business was, why the local Mages were all muscle-brained freaks obsessed with immortality, and why they all seemed to lack any appreciation for the finer details of Essence manipulation. That would be nice.

Coeus?
Author's Comment: I was asked about reading my work on other sites. The answer is simple: Currently I am not active in any other networks than royalroadl.com. Only here, I correct mistakes and errors. If you read it anywhere else and have to pay for it, or have to deal with an annoying amount of advertisement, You Are Being Betrayed. You would do good if you make other people in that network aware of it. This is a free project of mine for the purpose of having fun. And if people try to make money with it you shouldn't bother visiting their website. The only one whom I actually allowed to have my work on his website is Armaell who invested the time to compile them into pdf. (http://armaell-library.net/author/andur) ——————————————————————————————— Reading Order of the Multiverse-Books ——————————————————————————————— About a boy who isn’t quite normal and doesn’t see himself as a human being, but is taught differently as he finds out about the world's secrets. Though not everyone is happy about his existence. This is inteded to evolve into a full blown space opera with elements of magic thrown into it. ——————————————————————————————— The OneShot goes FullStory. Trying to go a little more SciFi and alternate reality this time. I am not entirely sure how this fiction will turn out. And I am not sure on the tags either. They may change. Bear with it. As always, how chapters turn out is up to my mood.
