Chapter 2:

[A side character's point of view]

After the events of the last day of our first term, our summer break finally began. We all met up at the front gate of our school with me arriving first at around an hour before the meeting time, Kazuto and Kushi arriving at the same time at around 20 minutes before the meeting time and Mash exactly arriving on time. While we were waiting for Mash to arrive, the lovebirds was just chatting away. With my special ability called [Side Character Breathing: First Variation, Presence Begone!], I vanished from time and space as my existence completely disappeared and all that could be focused on is this stupid bubbly flowery atmosphere coming from those two. I drank my cola in peace as I hear all the awkwardness and innocence, just everything they're saying from...

"K- Kushi, uhm... a- are you really fine with me? You're the most beautiful person in this school. No, maybe even the world. A lily amongst lilies."

"No! Kazuto I- I should be the one asking you that. You're the kindest most thoughtful person I've met. Are you really fine with a good for nothing me?"--

Ahhh!!! This conversations are killing me. It's too stupid and 1cringeworthy for my understanding. They said a bunch more stuff and reconfirmed their love for each other but I deleted those from my memory because remembering it is also too 2cringy even for me. I just patiently waited for Mash at some point and he finally arrived. We went to the park, ate something for lunch, went to the arcade and ended it off with some karaoke. Mash and I was just staring at them being 3lovey-dovey with each other all day. It was a real eyesore but this time, its not some form of jealousy and all that but more of an “as a friend perspective” eyesore. I’m supportive of them and they actually look very cute together. It made me happy. Truly happy because this time, I wasn’t blinded with my bitter heart nor the sudden shock I got from a sudden development. I was just there as their good friend. I genuinely smiled that time. After that we all went home and spent the rest of our summer break in peace.

The second part of my youth then started, we all met up at the front gate as usual. Me, Mash, Kazuto and Kushi all met up with the couple being your plain lovey-dovey love birds again. It’s actually turning into a real eyesore now, my previous crush and my current best friend is just flirting right in front of me. “So this is the scene that's basically shouting right infront of my face that. I’m just a side character! Well, at least they’re happy I guess.” Nonetheless, we checked for our classrooms together and fortunately ended up at the same classroom again. We all went inside, grabbed our seats and waited for the class to start.

The class was rowdy but as soon as the teacher came in, all went silent.

“Ok, before this class starts. We have a new transfer student. A female.”

A second of silence. Then everyone just shouted a big "YES!"

All the boys rejoiced like monkeys in heat and well I thought “Oh, a female transfer student. How cliché.” As I said those words, a beautiful female entered the classroom which was kind of expected and unexpected at the same time. I was expecting someone beautiful and all that but not to this level. She was a goddess with a gorgeous black wavy hair with skin as white as snow and legs so long and slender you’d have thought she was a superstar in the red carpet. I was dumbfounded and well… I fell in love, again.

*Tack- tack- tack- tack-- - BANG*

Suddenly, a loud noise once again disrupted this joyous moment. A student was late in class. She opened the door with such force it silenced the monkeys in heat and it even spooked me! Yet what lies beyond those doors is another goddess. A typical blonde with a wavy shoulder-length hair girl popped flashily in front of the transfer student. Two goddesses in the first day of second year, it’s going to be a roller coaster of a year. I knew I was raising a flag but at that time, I didn't know how much my statement raised the flag. That statement is the most truest statement I’ve ever said in one of my monologues as we are about to witness the most messiest year of my life.

The goddess with black wavy hair is named Ichiban Saena while the goddess with blonde wavy hair is named Meinu Hana. After they we’re introduced to the class they were given seats. Now for some unknown coincidence both seats beside me is empty as I was in the middle row at the back of the class. Sure it made me happy but at the cost of those hurtful burning sneers the boys gave me. At least this day, just for this day, I felt that I was some kind of a main character. As I looked to my sides, I saw Saena. I don’t know why but she makes me feel suppressed and has that domineering appearance but it wasn't anything that would me me feel scared of her or anything like that. It was more of an aura that's enough to send me shivers but not enough to make me feel scared which I like. My heart felt excited looking at her oppressive aura I guess. She’s the best definition of a white lily on a cold mountain top, so strong yet so fragile while still being beautiful with a dash of blizzardly coldness or something like that. On the other hand, I looked at Meinu Hana, she looked like an angel but she feels somewhat of a trickster or it felt like something is hiding just behind her. It’s the kind of poison I would go head first through. She looks kind of familiar though but that’s probably because I saw someone like her in a magazine somewhere or something.

The class proceeded normally and in that timespan, I have interacted with both girls once… and both times, It reminded me that I’m as nonexistent as a side cha- no maybe even a background character. Those characters that authors don't even include a face in. It went by the lines of “Hi! I’m Ataashi Hitoka, how’s your day?” and a response of just pure nothingness, they didn’t even look at me. I faded into the background even more after that as it was just too awkward for even the great awkward me. Time-skip to lunch, I’m still hurt by what just happened a few hours ago. Kazuto and co were walking towards me presumably inviting me to eat lunch out and then the unexpected happened. Saena spoke to Kazuto of all people with Kushi just behind her. “Wow! Is this guy just releasing some kind of big D energy? It’s been a minute and you’ve managed to make the girl that ignored me for the past couple of hours talk to you just like that. You already have a cute beautiful girlfriend, SHARE SOME OF YOUR CHARISMA KAZUTO!” is what I’ve thought, well it’s not like I can voice it out anyways. Following after Saena is Hana! Kazuto was standing out as all the males just look over to our side and be filled with pure envy. I don't know how he's doing it. My only explanation is just him being your plain main character in a harem setting I guess. With that, we got two female friends added to Kazuto's ever growing group of friends and basically his two new harem candidates. We ate lunch together and the day ended.
