《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》7. His Princess

Cassie checked the time as she saw it was nearing six, she rubbed her eyes and resumed reading. Shugi should be back from work soon right? Hopefully, cause I have a lot to tell him. Cassie typed away putting remarks where she needed to remember things and before she knew it, it was turning seven and the door was opening.
"Honey, I'm home." We're not married. "Oh, wait we're not married... yet." Or at all.
Cassie turned to see Shugi scratching his hair. It fell down how she normally saw it instead of his uniform look.
"Do you think you can sit through a little break down?" Cassie said.
He shrugged, "Why the hell not. I just got off work and maybe your sweet voice will get everyone else's voice out of my head."
Cassie nodded and turned back to the laptop. Shugi removed his uniform top before tossing it aimlessly onto the couch where he then sat across from Cassie.
"While you were gone, I tried to make sense of what most of this was trying to say. It seems like it's not as cryptic you thought."
"So you mean even peasants like me can understand this?"
Cassie pushed out a small smile, "You're not a peasant," You've just never written anything past a highschool- no middle school essay. "But yeah essentially. Most of it just seems like these guys were writing lemons to each other."
"Lemons?" He asked.
Cassie felt the heat climb to her face, "Uh... yeah they're basically... written porn. Kids think it's erotic or something."
Shugi chuckled, "So you've dabbled in these lemons before?" Cassie said nothing, "I can't believe you're such a freak." Please don't say that.
Cassie sighed, "But, I still haven't gotten to the last link you sent me, so maybe there's something I can help with in there."

Shugi nodded, "Well don't push yourself too hard. I only asked you to help me with this 'cause no one at the job knew about fanfiction and such and I didn't wanna waste the time getting a paid expert in here."
Cassie looked up, "It's a little weird to think a crime is being committed by people who write this kind of stuff. So, you guys really think something's going on?"
Shugi nods, "If not, then we've been hot on this one for nothing."
Cassie began to look back at the computer screen. She let out a small yawn which caused Shugi to smile a bit.
"Are you sure you don't need a break? You have been working since this morning." Shugi said.
"Yeah, but if I hurry and get this finished I won't have to worry about pushing it off."
"Could you at least humor me and help me eat some dinner?" She looked up, "I may have some leftovers that's a little too much for one person."
Cassie didn't know if he had some kind of angle he was working, but she was hungry and sighed as she got up while removing her headphones fully and leaving them on the table. She followed Shugi into the kitchen and she had to remark on a few things.
"This place is pretty huge... are you sure you live alone?"
"If you're thinking I'm hiding some kind of relationship, don't be quick to judge." He looked back to her, "Besides, unless it's you who's here, I wouldn't even think about anyone else." I honestly think you should. "But let's just eat. I'm starving!"
...
Cassie and Shugi ate for a while and once it turned nine, Cassie explained she'd work for the rest of the night and try to get it done before daybreak. No matter Shugi's protests, Cassie did what she wanted and now Shugi sat in his living room with Cassie on his couch. She was making notes on what she was reading and her eyes never left her screen.

Every so often she would stop to yawn, but that was it. Shugi made sure she at least drank some water and once it hit midnight, Shugi knew he couldn't stay up anymore. He got to his feet and addressed Cassie.
"I have work in the morning, I'm gonna take a shower and call it a night, but be sure you get some sleep tonight, okay Cassie?"
She nodded without looking up, "I will." She said after a bit.
Shugi stared at her for a while longer and while Cassie could see that out of her peripheral vision, she remained working just the same. Can you not stare at me? After her thought, Shugi eventually left.
Cassie did as she said and worked all the up until about one in the morning. Having been working all day, she felt more than exhausted and figured a little bit of relaxing wouldn't do any harm. Shugi SHOULD be asleep... I think I'll just watch something and then get back to work. She told herself this and began to search up something she had been interested in. When she found it, she laid on the couch. She got comfortable and focused her attention on the video.
Shugi found himself unable to sleep. Instead of sleeping alone, he could be holding Cassie in his arms, he thought. Frustrated, he got up and decided to get something to drink. He hoped not to see Cassie up, but his hopes were squashed when he saw the light from her laptop on.
"Come on Cassie, it's one in the morning." He got closer to the couch, "Don't you think-" He stopped and saw Cassie sleeping while holding the blanket she brought tightly up to her face. She was curled up slightly and he could hear the soft sound of her breathing. Shugi smiled and went to close the laptop, he then carefully removed her headphones to which she soundly remained asleep. He couldn't help but stare at her and wound up touching her waist, he rested his hand there and felt her calm breathing. He chuckled and touched the top of her head feeling her hair warm his hand.
"Sleep well princess."

The Pugilist
Vincent Roy Salazar has never been your common folk. He climbed any mountain he found in front of him. From a bright young student to an accomplished professor, his life can be described as a continuous race to the top of his chosen fields. Patriarch of a loving family, proud father of three already grown siblings, Roy realizes that his life is the perfect picture of what the average man strives for, and for that he is truly grateful. But happiness is a difficult-to-reach goal, and as he lies in a pool of his own blood, his fist cracked, a young lady crying while cradling his head, he remembers what really gave sense to his youth. Pure Unadulterated Violence The Pugilist wants to be a different take on isekai shenanigans. What would happen if instead of a moronic idiot, a depressed high schooler, or a wannabe hero the one to get his do-over is a fully grown man that has already seen what life has to offer in full? Someone who conformed himself to society, but has always craved something different? In a journey of self-discovery, academy building, god-slaying, and absolutely no harem we follow someone driven by logic, experience, and a smokey goal: to fuck shit up, have fun while doing so, and maybe resume his career as a professor for those strange, magic-wielding, unstable youths that seems to never get enough of his presence. Guys, a few notes, first of all, this is my first time writing long-form fiction. I have a background in psychology, and my main income comes from writing dreary financial articles on SEO blogs. But after a bad break-up, and finding myself falling asleep only while thinking of deus ex machina for stories on this site (and for APGTE) I decided to try my hand at this web series thingy. I'm confident in my grammar, but that's it. Everything else will be a first time, and as such any constructive criticism is encouraged and gratefully accepted. Now, on the story. Romance will be introduced once my little heart is mended, if you are scared of LGBT you may be turned off by the fact that I plan to have no taboo of any kind in my universe, but I won't ever write detailed sex scenes for any characters so don't worry too much. The litRPG part is very light and will take place later in the novel, but it's a key component nonetheless, for world-building and storyline reasons. I already have everything big planned out, so I won't drop it outta nowhere, and I hope you won't find too many flaws in how things pan out. I plan to make The Pugilist an interactive story, with secondary characters created by my audience and introduced after tweaks and careful planning. The main reason I'm writing this is that I want to build a community for myself in this time of isolation. I discovered that exercising, playing the piano or video games means jack-shit when you are utterly miserable, so I hope to give some value to my readers in exchange for praise, fame, money, and companionship. I give full props to anyone who has read this whole mess of a synopsis: I hope to not disappoint too much, now let's write some more steaming garbage that will be in dire need of editing later on.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
