《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》28. Visiting Hours

Cassie wasn’t in a rush, but she wasn’t taking her time either; after hearing that Akuma was in the hospital, she knew she had to see if he was dead.
Akuma often got into fights and was hurt frequently, but he once told her that if he was ever in the hospital that he was either dead or about to die. Cassie was told Akuma’s room number and she carefully went inside only to find the room empty besides the occupied bed where Akuma rested. His eyes were closed and he hadn't heard Cassie enter the room. She went to him, his eyes opened and she relaxed a bit.
“I thought you were that damn nurse who can’t prick me for shit.” Akuma said as he sat up fully in the bed. Cassie noticed he wasn’t hooked up to anything so she guessed that they left until they could try again, though she took this time to see the visible wounds on his body. His face had a large purple mark that ran from the bottom of his eye to part of his chin, his neck had bandages on it that were turning a faint red color and she saw that both of his wrists were bandaged as well. She figured he had other injuries, but she couldn’t see them under the blanket.
“What happened?” She finally asked.
“Let’s hope no one hears me, it won’t look good for the Flueric name.” He let out a harsh chuckle, “But me and my dad got into a fight. It was over what would happen once I turned twenty-one. I’ll be getting some inheritance then and unless he kills me, which is exactly what he tried to do, he won’t be getting it.”
“You two couldn’t discuss this rationally?”

“Of course not! That man doesn’t listen to me because he already knows what he wants. I know that, so I know how to handle myself when this topic comes up.” Akuma rationalized. Cassie just stared at him.
“How badly did you hurt him?” Akuma chuckled.
“You should go and visit him." He said with a smirk "As his future daughter-in-law, I bet he’ll be pissed that someone as gorgeous as you isn’t sitting on his dick.” She said nothing, “But we both got hurt pretty bad, he got it worse as I heard he won’t be able to work for a month.” Akuma laughed a bit. What kind of fucked up-
“You know, why do you even stay there?" She began to ask him, "You’re old enough to just leave.”
“Yeah, but where's the fun in letting him win?” He paused, “I’m waiting until Satan welcomes him home, until then, he’ll have to be better and stronger than me to keep me down.” Cassie stared at him, it sounded like a bad romance story. She didn’t mind Akuma as a person, but knowing that his dad wanted him pretty much dead was something she worried about. She sighed, I shouldn't have to be worried like this, but why does he have to be so pretty? I'd still be worried, but have less of a reason to concern this much. As she was thinking this, Akuma looked at her and smiled. “You look like you wanna give me a get well kiss.” The hell I do.
“Akuma, I’m more concerned about you dying.”
“Relax, I won’t. Unless you get a boyfriend I wont be dying anytime soon. I gotta protect what’s mine.” She stared at him. Shit like this did bother her, but mainly for the reason that Akuma, and a few others, were never going to stop pursuing her unless she said something. While she wanted to tell them all to leave her alone, she also wanted to tell them all yes. Damn this sucks.

“Well, I’ll stay here until visiting hours are up okay?”
“Why? Feeling bad for me?”
“No, I just know it can kind of suck to be alone in a hospital. So I’ll give you some company.” Besides, this is a perfect way to find out more about your fucked up family. “Speaking of which, what about your mother?”
“Don’t know her, and not in a bad way either. I just really don’t know her and I honestly don’t want to meet her. My dad and her worked out an agreement where she would have me, but only if she could then be introduced to another guy my dad knew. Spoiler, those two are married now, and before you ask, I know I don’t have any siblings because her and that guy didn’t want children.”
“Then why did your dad want kids?”
“Well, by what I found out, my dad wanted to write me off on taxes." Oh my God, "That’s why he put up with me for so long, but now that I’m nineteen, he doesn’t care anymore, he really never cared, but my age was the reason he didn’t try and beat my ass every time we see each other.” Cassie nodded. This guy sounds like the biggest scumbag, but I guess the apple did fall far.
“Well, I can’t say I feel sorry for you, because you seem to have grown up alright.” Cassie stated.
“Of course, I was raised by some pretty okay people, but my personality still is from that bastard. Still, I’ll take that over being some push over who takes what my dad says to heart.” Cassie was a bit glad for that, anyone else would have been permanently screwed up in life if this was their parent. “Oh,” She looked up, “And even when we get married, I’d never force you to meet him.” I honestly hope to never have to meet anyone’s parents… or bring someone to mine, but go on. “All he’ll do is eye fuck you and I don’t think you’d fall for it, but he won’t take no for an answer and then I’d have to actually kill him.” Aw… wait should I be thankful or worried?
“You won’t have to worry about that because I doubt if we’ll ever get married.” Akuma chuckled.
“A woman with the will to think on her own." He said streching, "Still, I hate to say you’re wrong on this one.” Boy do I hate you… but I guess that’s what keeps me coming back.

Decompose!
Dear diary. When you read stories about some people missing and returning after years of absence claiming they were living in another world, your first reaction is to scoff and dismiss a story as a tall tale, right? I know I did. All the time. Until it happened to me and I no longer did. That day was today. Some god of thunder smote me. If it were Chris Hemsworth, I wouldn't mind but it was some barbaric Hitite god that abaondned Earth some four millennia ago. Yes, what can I say? I love the seventh art. I have more hours watching movies than any other activity, including sleep. What? Do you think I'm exaggerating? Maybe I am. I'll really miss hollywood the most. And my biggest regret is that I never got to visit the holy city of cinema. I did not come to another world to be a hero even though there was hints that they hoped I'd save it. I did not come with overpowered abilities able to, dunno, leap tall castles in a single bound, faster than a speeding crossbow bolt, be more powerful than a eight-horse carriage, the bounds. No. After the asshole god that murdered me brought me to his world, he gave me some boons from his discount bin and "The Power of my Soul (tm)". Forgive my french, I hope you understand I am rather upset at dying. And he somehow decided that my power is to recycle stuff. How awesome is that? Not much at first, I must admit. At least I got all my camping stuff and equipment with me. There's no lycra in the other world. I'll make it someday, but that day is not today. So here I am. In another world, in the middle of nowhere. I'm no heroine. As the song goes, I'm your basic average girl. And I'm assumed to be here to save the world. But almost everything can stop me, because I'm not named Kim. Wish me luck, diary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This novel is going have the following features: slow-paced slice-of-life No GameLit / LitRPG elements. Movie references. Sandra likes the seventh art. Journal / diary style crafting (includes chemistry, engineering and metallurgy) low magic technological advancement (for Sandra, at least. She is not against sharing though) personal relations clash of perception between the modern and ancient customs. bits of tension, fighting, and plot here and there. I won't repeat myself though. Once she crafts a good batch of soap, for example, she'll just note, "I crafted soap again." Once it is estabilished how she obtains compound X, compound X2 that is obtainable from the same process will also just be mentioned. I'll try to be as realistic as I can with the crafting, chemistry, and technology. Cover: Public Domain Image by StockSnap from Pixabay. No attribution required but we do it anyway.
