《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》32. Sick Days

Cassie was faced with a dilemma. The sick Brayleigh lying in front of her had two outcomes she could think of; the first was her taking care of him like a domestic wife and her getting a infested cuddle out of him or the second being since Brayleigh was so out of it she could spent a good ten minutes admiring his body. She stood biting her nail while looking at Brayleigh who was pretty much passed out on his couch.
That second option seems viable, but maybe I can get both? He did say he’s been sleeping on the couch for two days so I doubt if he’s taken a shower or changed so… no, but if I do that I’ll be taking advantage of him and I don’t wanna do that! Ugh! Why can’t I just be a terrible person? Cassie sighed and bent down to touch his forehead, he was burning up and by the looks of it he must have had a really bad cold.
Cassie went to his kitchen and tried to look for anything he could eat, so she just settled on some soup and found a random can of something she was familiar with. This shit is usually pretty nasty, so hopefully he had some seasoning or flavoring… then again I bet he can’t taste anything anyways, but still maybe I’ll get hungry!
Cassie began to heat the soup up and Brayleigh did have something she could cook with. She stayed in there for about five minutes before going to check on him. There she saw Brayleigh with his arm over his eyes, he was awake. Carefully she got his attention.
“Leigh?” He removed his arm and gave Cassie the sickest smile she had ever seen.
“You actually came over?”
“Yeah,” You really can’t take care of yourself and might die if I don’t help you. “Jess was kind of worried about you.”
“I doubt it. Cassie if you were just worried about me just say it.” Well I wasn’t, I didn’t even know you were sick, but Jess wasn’t going to help you.

“That doesn’t matter,” She sat down, “But I’m making some soup… do you think you’re feeling well enough to eat?” He nods.
“I had a headache before, but I think I sneezed all of that out.” He said with a chuckle. Ew, but-
“At least you’re getting better.” She said, she got up to get the soup, Brayleigh kept talking as she left.
“I’d be better if I knew about this cold before it got this bad.” Why the fuck didn’t you?
“Were you busy or something?” She asked.
“Yeah I was making a remix, but I didn’t like how it was going so I scrapped it and started again and worked for pretty much a whole week straight. Then when I finished it I couldn't get out of bed so I guess my body couldn’t take it anymore.” Brayleigh said, once more he was chuckling. This boy almost died and he’s out here laughing about it? Cassie came back and placed the soup in his lap as he moved to sit up. She sat back down and watched him as he slowly moved to start eating. Cassie stared at him in anticipation.
“Um… have you showered at all?” She asked. He chuckled.
“I must stink huh?”
“Not really,” I just remembered you were wearing that shirt when I last saw you.
“Well no, I’ve been too weak to even move.” He explained. Cassie touched her hands together.
“Well I think you should. Hot showers can help get you uncongested.”
“Oh right, you’re like a doctor with how many times you’ve been sick, right?” And my mom too. “Then I’ll believe you, but I might pass out.”
“I know, it’s better if I’m here so I can actually help if something happens.” Not that I want you to pass out in case you hurt yourself, but it might be the only way I can see what’s under that damn sweatshirt!

“Actually, I know this might be asking a lot, but do you think staying over would be too much.” Brayleigh asked reaching for a tissue.
“You want me to?”
“Yeah, I know this cold isn’t going anywhere, and hopefully I don’t get you sick somehow, but I think I’d get better sooner if I had you taking care of me.” Why does that sound so bad to me?
“I don’t mind and as long as I remember to take a bit of medicine when I leave I’ll be fine.” Brayleigh gave her a big smile before finally taking a spoonful of his soup. Instantly he pulled back and looked at her.
“Woah, I have something this good in my kitchen?”
“I added some flavoring so it might taste a bit different.”
“I can’t cook so I didn’t even think to do that!” Cassie smiled at his innocence. “You gotta tell me what you added.” She nods.
“Sure thing.”
…
After Brayleigh ate his soup, Cassie helped clean the area around him up a bit before giving him some water to keep him hydrated.
Cassie felt like the biggest pervert because the only other thing on her mind was his bedroom; she wanted to see what kind of clothes he had, and no matter how creepy it sounded, she wanted to see if his scent was on anything he wore. She didn’t care at this point and just needed to see something!
She came back from the kitchen and saw that Brayleigh finished his water, so she figured to let him take a shower now.
“Um, do you need me to turn on the water or anything else?” Cassie asked.
“No, I think I can do a bit on my own.” Cassie nods. Damnit!
“Oh, but do you think you could just put what I’m wearing in my laundry basket? I wouldn’t want to wear it by mistake after I’m feeling better.” Is this my chance?
“For sure!” Brayleigh nodded and got up and went to the bathroom down the hall. Cassie waited a second and then heard the water running. She waited a second then sprinted to get the laundry basket from his room. She then spoke. “I’ll take them now if you want.” Brayleigh sneezed, but then soon after agreed and a second later the door cracked before she saw his arm drop what he was wearing into the basket. Now Cassie was somewhat skilled at this, she had very unfortunate luck with seeing people at their most vulnerable. That or her brothers and father were just really unaware people. So she stood behind the door and knew there was a mirror and it was almost like the misfortune turned into a gold mine! She couldn’t see it fully, but for certain she could confirm Brayleigh’s natural hair was brown.
Cassie stared for as long as she could and burned the image of the top of his girth and his toned body into her head. It was there she finally felt happy she could almost never forget images once she saw them. Brayleigh’s voice brought her back to reality.
“This really means a lot Cassie, I’ll be sure to repay you back.” Cassie pressed her back against the wall and felt like nothing could take her from this moment of euphoria.
“You already did.”
“Huh?”
“I said, of course I’d take care of you anytime.” He chuckled and the door shut fully. Cassie kept thinking back to what she saw and wondered how it fully looked. She had no idea if size mattered or not, but pleasure was pleasure and if she could see that body every time, she could die happy.

Carus - Libertas
participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge and also having a go at NaNoWriMo this November. This was a first draft published as it was written for Nanowrimo November 2020. A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.
