《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》54. Yacht Club

“Come on Cassie!” Quana yelled while dragging Cassie behind her. At this rate, Quana was likely to pull Cassie's arm off entirely with how reluctant she was. “I still can’t believe you managed to convince Akuma to let us go with you guys!” Quana began to slow down as they approached the dock, “This is going to be so much fun!” Quana exclaimed.
Cassie sighed and saw the yacht not far from them now. On it, she saw Akuma speaking to someone who nodded and then walked off into the boat. Akuma turned at the same moment and saw the pair. He gave a smile to Cassie when their eyes met, but she just turned her head and pretended to be looking for something in her bag.
“Really Quana, this just seems like a bad idea.” Cassie said not looking up.
“Probably for you, but for me, I’m never going to get the chance to go on a private yacht ever again… well, unless I get kidnapped or something.”
Cassie just sighed and they got to the dock where Akuma met them halfway.
“Where’s the rest of those loudmouths?” Akuma asked.
“We’re Cassie’s friends!” Quana corrected, “And Jess said she might be a little late since she doesn’t know if Seko is gonna come or not.”
“I honestly shouldn’t even let that happen." Akuma said while crossing his arms, "There’s already too many of you.”
Quana rolled her eyes at him and began to pull Cassie onto the boat.
“Come on, let’s explore the boat!”
Cassie had no choice but to follow Quana as they went up to the boat. Even if Cassie was regretting this idea as a whole, the place was pretty nice. As they got inside, they first saw all the doors in the hallway. Each of them would have their own rooms to stay in, according to Akuma, and the staff who was on here had their own private quarters as well. Cassie thought it was a bit excessive, but then again, Akuma’s father was rich.
Quana made a noise every time they turned a corner and as they got further into the yacht, they found more rooms that were lined up together.
“This must be where we’re staying!”
“Do you think we can just pick?” Cassie asked.
“Not sure,” Quana opened up the first room and saw a basket on the table, "What's that?" they went over it and saw a note on the outside. Quana read it aloud, “Hope you enjoy this?” The basket was filled with candy boxes, lollipops, Hershey’s kisses, and even had a plush bunny. Quana then laughed. “This has to be your room.”
Cassie felt a little embarrassed, “We don’t know that Quana!”
Quana rolled her eyes and began to explore the room a bit. Cassie sighed and stood there until Quana got her attention again.
“Well, if this isn’t your room I wonder why these are in here?” Cassie went over to the mini fridge where Quana was crouching in front of. Inside, there were strawberry flavored Good Humor ice cream. “I wonder.” Quana teased.
Cassie just sighed and put her bag onto the bed, “I really don’t know if I should even eat this stuff, it might be spiked with something.”
Quana shut the fridge, “I doubt it,” Quana went over and opened the window, “But if it makes you feel better we’ll all be in here when you eat it and stay for at least two hours.”

Cassie laughed a bit at that and returned to looking around the room.
“The hell’s wrong with you? Where’s Cassie and Quana?” Suddenly, from outside the room, they heard yelling and figured who it was.
They both quickly left Cassie’s room and went out to see Jessica yelling at Akuma. Akuma seemed unbothered by this verbal assault.
“Jess!” Quana yelled getting her attention.
She looked over, relieved after seeing the pair. Jessica turned back to Akuma with a deep scowl, she said nothing to him before walking onto the boat and over to Cassie and Quana. Cassie hadn't seen her before, but Keris was also with her and now they were all finally together.
“I swear if it wasn’t for his money I’d knock him off this boat.” Jessica grumbled. Cassie smiled a bit. I’d be willing to help you. “But I guess this is good. A free vacation and we’re all here. I guess I can put up with that rich brat for a little bit.”
“Yeah, speaking of which, how do you put up with him Cassie?” Quana asked Cassie.
“I honestly don’t you guys, but his personality is nothing I can’t handle, so I really think I just ignore him well enough to get past it.” That and he’s pretty. If you tune out his voice, he gets a hundred times more tolerable.
“It’s nice that you girls enjoy talking about me," The girls turned to face Akuma as he joined them on the boat, "but it’s rude to talk behind the host’s back.” You know, I just realized. If Akuma was just using this as a ploy to get a bunch of single girls on his yacht, it worked pretty well. “But, I can put up with it, if you all leave Cassie alone with me.” Never mind.
“As if," Quana began, "She’s our friend and we’re gonna have fun and enjoy this vacation.”
“Plus, it’ll be fun to force Cassie to swim with us.” Keris said.
“Huh? I-I can’t swim!” Thee girls began to laugh and took Cassie away from the area.
Akuma just chuckled and went back to directing the staff...
…
The days on the vacation began to slow after a good two days. The girls enjoyed all the amenities Akuma's money had to offer and they spent a good amount of time enjoying each other's company. However, a good two days onto their boat adventure and Cassie realized why she had no interest in this in the first place.
“Cassie!” She looked out and saw Quana in the water with a water ring beside her, “Get this on my phone!” Cassie got up and leaned over the rail to film her better. A jet ski started to pull out and Quana was pulled by one of the staff members, she began to scream as it got faster and she was almost lifted up into the air. Once it slowed down, she waved to Cassie and she stopped recording. Jessica was also out in the water just aimlessly floating while Keris was scuba diving.
They were all having fun, but all Cassie wanted to do was sit and write. She couldn't, however, since Akuma had told her not to bring any electronics besides her phone. She tried to get her laptop onboard, but Akuma’s staff found it and took it from her. She would just write on her phone, but that was more hassle and would just take the fun out of it. Cassie sighed and leaned over the rails seeing the rest of the girls having fun.

“See? We could be having our own fun.”
Cassie glanced to her side and saw Akuma walking toward her with two drinks in his hand. They were in wine glasses, so naturally Cassie assumed it was alcohol.
“I’m not drinking with you… besides you’re underage anyways.”
“This isn’t alcohol. You know I actually listen to you and know you don’t drink right?” She said nothing and continued to stare at the ocean in front of her, “It’s sparkling water mixed with orange juice, I know you like that though.” Cassie sighed and stood up. she faced Akuma and he had a grin on his face. “There’s nothing spiked in it either.” He added.
Cassie just stared at him before deciding to speak, “Look, I guess I’m grateful you allowed me to relax out here, but what makes you think I wasn’t going to get ancy not being able to do anything? The only thing I have to look forward to is that amazing cooking we eat every night.”
Akuma sat down on the lounge chair beside the rails, “I figured bringing your friends would be enough… either that or if we were alone we could just-”
“No.” She cut him off and sat down on the other chair adjacent to him.
He chuckled, “I figured you wouldn’t want to do anything with me, but how about this then-” He sat up, “We just talk. I know you like to do that no matter how little you actually do speak.”
“But talk about what?”
“Anything. Your writing, a game, a show, your animosity towards me, anything is really fine.”
Cassie sighed a bit, “I don’t hate you Akuma.”
“Really? Now, that’s a shock.” He said with a laugh.
“I’m being serious.” She paused, “If you say you know so much about, then you should understand that I don’t hate anyone I know. There’s just certain things I don’t know how to handle and I hate not being able to know how to handle things.” She explained. “So for you, I have dealt with your personality before.” Cassie looked back out to the girls seeing them getting on a small boat that was heading back to the yacht, “So if anything, you should be happy I do know how to handle you… it makes me that much more inclined to stay near you.” It was silent for a while, nothing but the waves could be heard and Cassie focused her attention on the marine life she could see near the boat.
“Oh man!” Akuma suddenly came out and said, getting her attention back, “You sure know how to get my hopes up.” Cassie was then grabbed and her body fell into Akuma’s at the sudden motion. She was pressed against his body and she looked up at his face, “I mean, my hopes were up a while back when I caught you staring at me.” Her face turned red. “We’re this close, why not touch what you were staring at?”
Okay, it was just your abs, and I’m not going to touch you at all!
Cassie just tried to move from him, but she had the rails of the yacht and him to depend on and falling into the water seemed like the better option. However, Akuma suddenly let go of her and then she saw the wet hair of all the girls who had just come back. Cassie was more than overjoyed to see them.
“And here’s the little chihuahuas to save the day.” He paused, “Well two chihuahuas and a rottweiler.”
Keris smirk at him, “At least I’m more of a man than you are.” She said.
“I won’t judge what kind of stuff you’re into, but you might want to find a submissive for that.” Keris rolled her eyes and returned her attention to Cassie.
"What was going on?"
"I bet he waited for a chance to do that!"
Akuma yelled to Cassie interrupting them. “I’ll remember what you said Cassie!” She didn’t look at him, but he finally left them alone.
Once he was gone, Jessica spoke in a soft voice, “Seriously, what were you two doing?”
“You mean what was he doing to me?” She paused, “I guess he took what I said to him as an invitation.”
Jessica shook her head, “I swear you really have it the worst."
“Screw him," Quana blurted out, "We should still enjoy the rest of the trip and ignore him. I mean, look at what Keris found!” Quana moved the conversation onward and they all looked to Keris who presented with them the bag she had in her hands.
“Oh, when I was diving I found these.” She presented them with some seashells, “I was thinking of making them into necklaces for us.”
“They're really pretty.” Jessica said.
“I want this one!” Quana exclaimed picking one out of the bag.
“Which one do you want Cassie?” Keris asked.
Cassie looked at the last two in her palm and saw that one was a light red color. They reminded her of Akuma’s eyes and she found herself inclined to take it. She reached for it and Keris nodded.
“Okay, I’ll remember who wants which one and once they’re done, I’ll give them back.”
They all handed the shells back and Quana happily jumped up.
“Good! That ride thing was a lot of fun, but now I’m hungry. Come on, let’s see what they’re serving for lunch!” Quana ran off.
“I’m hungry too.” Jessica said getting up and following behind Quana.
Cassie got up as well. Her and Keris slowly walked to catch up with the rest of them, when Keris spoke up.
“You know,” Cassie looked to Keris, “When Akuma compared me to a Rottweiler it got me thinking. Maybe I should get a dog.” Cassie had to laugh at her random comment. “I’m serious Cassie.”
“I know you are. I wasn’t laughing for that reason.” Cassie took out her phone and searched up the kind of dog she wanted. “I either want an Australian Shepherd, a Pomeranian, or a blue nose pitbull.”
“Oh, they’re so cute, do you have a name you’d wanna call them?” She nods.
“CJ, a.k.a Cracker Jack, for the Shepherd and the Pomeranian; and Ruta for the pitbull!”
Keris giggled at the names and they went inside the yacht to enjoy the rest of their vacation...

Synergy
Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
