Oh… my head…
Is this what they call a hangover? And here I thought I was immune to it.
Where… where am I? A forest? How did I get here?
The other must have played a prank on me. They’re really a bunch of assholes, but I’m impressed they managed to drug me. Actually, this is suspicious, I’m pretty sure drugs pill were ineffective on me… and Sam should have stopped them at some point. Or they did that without him knowing, which is entirely plausible.
The headache was already gone, and I finally managed to get a good look around me.
There are trees around me, and the leaves are blocking the sunlight. Looks like your perfect average forest to me, but I clearly don’t remember this part.
I have circled around the camp many times, and I’m sure I never went to this exact place, meaning they brought me pretty far. Did they want to get rid of me?
Haha, they’re being silly. They tend to forget how much of a monster I am.
I focus my sense, with a bit of concentration, I can track the position of someone or something I’ve already seen within a tremendous radius. Who was the original holder of this talent? Maybe Kyle… I’m not sure…
Che… that’s unexpected, I have no response whatsoever. Usually, I have at least a faint feeling, maybe they really did drug me…
I got up, and examine myself. I still have my usual pants, T-shirt and jacket, but my pocket are empty… I normally always carry a knife or something with me -not that I need it, but I like the style. Upon closer inspection, I can’t see any trace of sting or drug injection on my skin, nor do I feel anything special.
Even more disturbing, there are absolutely no trace or sign of recent activity on the ground around me!

The mystery is thickening… What should I do know?
I am obviously far away from the basement, so I might as well search for other traces of human activity first… oh god, I hope I won’t encounter the adults. I don’t know what I’ll do in front of them. Running away, probably.
I’ve decided, I’ll leave the forest, I doubt people are living in the same condition as us, I’ll have more chance finding some outside.
The problem is that I have no clue in which direction to go...meh, I’ll just choose one randomly.
And let’s go… north! In a situation like this, I’m glad to have an intern compass, and to be able to do this. Sometimes I wonder how the other managed with only their own i-talent…
Alice made swift movements with her hand toward a close tree. After 3 strikes, the shape of a simple arrow was carved on the bark.
Sigh… It would have looked so much better with my knife, it’ll do the job I guess.
Anyway, time to leave!
And thus, Alice started her adventure, marching between the trees. In order to keep track of her path, she continued to carve arrow along the way, while wandering about the reason of her presence here. The deeper she thought about it, the less sense it has…
I am convinced none of them would have the capacity, or the balls, to do that. SO it must have been someone I don’t know, and someone powerful. But that doesn’t make sense, if that is what happened, why releasing me in the middle of nowhere like that?
This is annoying… and I’ve walking for a while now! So I’m angry, and hungry! AAAAH fuck this.
Our heroine threw a round kick toward an innocent nearby tree, and her legs sank into the trunk, stopping his course halfway through, and shacking its branch greatly. Visibly pissed off, Alice retracted her foot, and landed another powerful kick, finishing the poor plant.

Phew… I’m feeling better now. Hey! There’s fruit between the leaves! What a lucky strike.
I picked up the apple, and immediately ate it. Yummy!
Hum? I sense something… it’s faint, but there is movement, something is slowly approaching. More than one… animals?
And I saw them, several wolves, sniffing in my direction, and slowly approaching. They must have been attracted by the noise. I must say I’m not against some meat right now, but I’ve already secured some food, and I don’t want to pointlessly kill them, so I’ll scare them off.
I waited for them to get close enough, about 5 meters, and released my bloodlust. Turned out it didn’t work… Weird, usually they decamp quickly, did I get rusty?
Upon closer look, the problem might come from them… they seem… desperate. They are skinny and their eyes are filled with rage.
This… this is not good.
A wolf jumped towards her, fast and sharp, tooth out, ready to dive his jaw into her neck. But our heroine can cut a tree with her bare legs, obviously, she wasn’t phased. She slightly moved sideways to evade the assault, grabbed the wolf neck and projected him to the ground.
Shit… I hate doing this. But the others don’t seem to back down even after seeing this, so I have no choice. I twisted the neck of the one I just knocked off, and threw the body towards the rest of the pack.
While they rushed to it, I swiftly sneaked out.
Shit! I hate killing like that! This forest is definitely no good. What would push a pack of wolves to this level, they were all so skinny and famished.
I can only think of two solutions, either there are no sources of food close, which would be odd, or they can’t hunt because of something else. In either case, I should get out quickly. Shit! I forgot to pick more apples! Well, there’s bound to be another apple tree around.
I actually found some, and a few hours later, I finally saw more light than usual between the tree. So I ran towards it, and arrived at the edge of an immense forest. I looked left and right, but I can’t seem to see the end of it. I am so lucky! I wonder if that has anything to do with Sam’s talent… well, probably, who knows?
Where do I go now… it’s just a huge plain, with absolutely nothing. Wait, I see something down there… what is it? It seems small…
It’s… a door?

Epoch: An NPC's Tale
Epoch is a slow-burn LitRPG/Gamelit novel that tells the story of Luke, later named Lucius—a natural inhabitant of the game-like realm of Elyssia where thousands upon thousands of detached, virtually unkillable entities known as the Players were suddenly introduced right after the dusk of the magnificent Age of Heroes. Shortly after the Players arrived, the balance of power in Elyssia instantly shifted. Kingdoms fell, wars were waged, alliances between races were made, and Lucius, after ten years of training in captivity, found himself being used as a pawn in a prophecy that he had no intention to fulfill. With aspirations and desires of his own, Lucius must find a way to cautiously adapt to the drastic changes in the very foundations of the realm after being sent 300 years into a future that was forever altered by the outcome of the war that his captors had lost and the Players won in a victory that resounded throughout the ages, all for a terrible price. Author's Note As an avid fan of the LitRPG genre myself, I wrote this novel with character progression, heavy Gamelit elements, and some degree of world-building in mind. If you like these, please feel free to give this novel a try. Oh, and the MC is also an NPC, in a sense. And wait, isn't this also an isekai story? Well, it's all a bit complicated to explain here. Maybe you should start reading now?
