《Phantom Path》Chapter 15: People of Verencia

Bjørn shakes Nahshon until he wakes, telling him that he overslept and that they're ready to move out. He folds his sac, equipping his gear, taking up his broken sword, considering making an apology to the king if they meet again. He joins the others who are packing up as well, nudged by Ezek with a good morning as he yawns. Suddenly, a Spanish style of play on a guitar is heard, but no one sees any evidence of someone playing one.
"Encantado de conocerte, amigos," Arnaldo appears, clapping his hands to create beats.
"What the...??" Ezek goes, getting a rose brushed under his nose.
"Ezek the gunslinger; a talented marksman you are, indeed a magnificent talent gifted since birth to you elves," He says, dancing around him with the soldiers singing 'Aye'. "Your deep blue eyes, like the morning sky, the same eyes your soul sees through, and your feathery blonde hair is sure to have any women fall a sacrifice to your beast of a charm. I can see that inside, you are a kind soul who wishes to help others, truly a spectacle of a man you are "
"Uhuh...?"
"And you, swordsman," He targets Nahshon, smoothing his finger across his jawline. "Nahshon, si? such defined features, ones that must be very loved by the gods for them to shape your beauty themselves. Your eyes are like a hawk, very beautiful, with your shadowy toning above them, almost like a woman. And they even tell your story, a story of a man who works his hardest for his dreams to become a reality. I very much respect men like you"
"T-Thank you...?" Nahshon tells him, recognising there's a rose in his shirt pocket.
"Don't thank me, we are simply all unique in our own ways. Be proud, gentle swordsman, and fearsome ranger," He says jumping atop a higher point. "Remember this, your efforts were of great help in yesterday's campaign, young warriors. To kill such a beast, all by yourselves...is no easy task"
The rest of the soldiers agrees, clapping for them as they begin to feel Arnaldo's words move through them like a soothing fire.
"Let me introduce myself, amigos. My name is Rodríguez...Arnaldo Rodríguez," He states, doing about 10 various flexings of his muscles after, in a matter of seconds, ending his show with a beautiful ending. "A pleasure to meet you both"
"He does modelling part-time, He's cool, isn't he?" Bjørn turns proudly to the both of them.
"...Wow...That was the most random thing to ever happen to my life...and I have a weird-ass dude I have to watch over " Ezek says, seeing Nahshon also clapping, slapping his hands to stop.
"Alright, Alright," Vernon laughs. "We're ready to move out, make sure you haven't left anything behind. We're going home"
"I will miss this place, such rare events do not happen often, but I guess we must return to our people with good news"
"You're acting like it's gonna disappear or something," Nora says, Arnaldo understanding she's right.
They get out the old, damage fort, all turning back to the place that tremendously served them in their quest. Their hearts salute to the fort that still stands after all that destruction.

"She had done well for us," Vernon tells them, putting his hands and the wall, followed by most. "It'll surely be rebuilt...but it never will be the same, it won't be same hands that built her in the great era...do you know who built this?"
"Who?" Nahshon asks, intrigued by its past as he looks up at the walls.
"The 9th-century Vikings; the beginning of the famous era where Humans, Elven, Dwarven, Orcs, Lizard people...Giants...Dragons, all unified under one great King"
"Vikings...Woah," Nahshon looks up at the high walls, intrigued by its history as he imagines how all these races built this great Fortress.
"Hey, how about we all take a picture?" Bjørn suggests.
"You're right, lad, we should," Gunnar adds.
One of the reinforcements grabs a camera from their truck. They all stand firm in front of the fort with its gate open, multiple pictures captured with good memories in mind, Nahshon holding up the peace sign, and Ezek putting on his hat. And their journey begins to the city in the south, with the two beasts loaded onto carrier trucks, and the fortress fading into the mountains. And in the middle of their waypoint, the boys encounter various giant rock structures scattered throughout the land and another monument of Verencia; a giant's iron helmet partly embedded into the mountains.
"Other than the unification, Verencia was split up into warring factions for many years, all wanting to take the lands for themselves for control over the resources it holds," Vernon teaches. "The King with his Vikings saw it as a good chance to invade since their land was dying. After the war was over, through a peace treaty with the king, many of the giants fled back to their homeland"
"And where's that?" Nahshon asks, amazed by how these events almost parallel with his world's history.
"I believe it to be...Land på himmelen? Land in the sky...I'm sorry if the translations are off," Vernon teaches to him.
"Yeah, Harbard told me stories about it. It's the birthplace for most Giants and Dragons. But for him, he said he wasn't too lucky to born there, so there wasn't much else he could tell me"
"Really? Because they are theories about it being in another realm," Vernon adds.
"...I see," Nahshon simply says, overwhelmed by the teachings he received.
And passing between mountains, they reach an iron bridge that travels over the darkness below, and beyond that, A giant door built into the ranges. As they get closer, they begin to see small movements, seeing people behind the windows that were cut into the mountains, like ants in a nest. The guards notice the incoming troops, notifying others that Vernon has returned. With a push of a button, the mechanical doors of the city open. Nahshon is astounded by the structure, and what lies inside, mouth open as he stands up for a better look while in the moving vehicle. Civilians call out the names they know, as children run beside the vehicle, waving to welcome back the soldiers.
"Welcome to Ironkeep; the Capital of Strongcastle, home to most of the dwarves, orcs, lizardmen and women of Verencia," Bjørn tells them as they ride in.

"What about giants? I heard they helped build this place," Ezek asks.
"And the dragons??" Nahshon adds.
"Nobody has seen a giant in Verancia since the day your buddy went to the capital," Bjørn replies, referring to Harbard. "And for the dragons, they're here...but not many, like in all of Verencia"
"So they do exist," Nahshon whispers, now silently laughing at the people who didn't believe him.
"You kids can come off here if you want," Vernon says.
The boys, along with Nora, decide on that choice, and before the trucks drive off, Gunnar calls back Nahshon to vehicle.
"Hmmmm, a feeling tells me you can use something a little relaxing," The dwarf laughs, then onto whispering something to Nahshon, slipping to him some cash.
"W-What?!" Nahshon blushes, looking to see if anybody had heard what was whispered as the dwarf grins.
"It's up to you. Use it wisely, but I hope you can come and tell me your story tomorrow," He drives off, leaving Nahshon scratching his head, and Arnaldo gesturing that they'll see each other again.
"What did he say?" Ezek asks, tapping him on the shoulder.
"N-Nothing...nothing in particular important," Nahshon awkwardly laughs.
"Hm...Well, I'm gonna go deal with some stuff...don't get yourself mixed into any trouble while I'm gone...alright?"
"Yeah sure, but Hmm...shouldn't I be the one saying that to you?"
Ezek gestures later, for now, running off into the dense crowd. For Bjørn and Nora, they slip through the crowd of children that surround them to hear their stories.
"Nahshon, I'm gonna go run to my family real quick, we'll see each again. Enjoy your stay!"
"Bye, I'm going too" Nora follows.
Nahshon is now left alone in the city unknown to him, and Ezek didn't even make reservations for an inn to stay in, holding the cash tightly in his hands. With no choice, he begins his wandering through the bustling, stone-built city. The trace of steel being pounded and melted in a process hits his nose with every district he goes into, multiple blacksmiths crafting their work of arts for many warriors to use. He also passes a play put on for children; a story of King Horik fighting for his people, deciding to watch for a brief while. His curiosity leads him astray, into many areas, passing streets lanterns that turn on at the sign of the sun reaching its evening appointment. And so, his feet lead him to his last destination for the day, as the sun goes to slumber and the moon awakes. He finds himself into a district of drunken men, seduced by the scent of fragrance worn by the gorgeous women that occupy the area; Ironkeep's red district. With weighing Gunnar's kindness and his own morales, he walks into the district, brushed past by a drunkard that sluggishly swerves onto a woman, kissing up her neck as she unbuttons her top, driving himself down to her exposed breasts, having her laugh as she moans to the feeling of his mouth on her chest, under the red illumination of the lanterns in the area.
"Hmm?" An elven woman comes, caressing Nahshon's neck with her soft hands, studying down to his toes. "And how old are you, handsome sir?"
"Umm...Seventeen," He tells her, trying his best to cloak his awkward character underneath.
"I see...hmm," She nods, having her hand wander down to his stomach. "You are quite a built for someone this slender"
"O-Oh...really?" Nahshon goes, his body stiffening as to shell himself.
"...Well, it seems you're not ready to make your judgment, so enjoy your walk a little more, for now," She says, leaning in closer as her hands wrap around his waist. "Come to me when you're ready, and maybe I'll treat you something extra since you're so adorable"
She kisses him on the cheek, leaving Nahshon blushing where he stands, still feeling the tingling of her voice on his ear. It's like his breath was lost, taking in puffs as he believes he had successfully composed himself, not showing any weakness, bowing to hide his blushed face as he blows down. He continues his weighing of choices, both his angel and devil telling him what to choose.
"So, you're a virgin, heh?" A voice says, Nahshon jumping back at the voice to his ear, seeing a demi-human cat girl. "Sup! Don't worry, your secret is safe with me"
"I..." Nahshon can only say, embarrassed of himself.
"Do me a little favour, will ya?" She says, also proceeding with touching his body. "She is right, you are fit. Hmm...maybe I should spend a night with you too"
"H-What? Wait?!"
"Just kidding," She laughs at his blushing. "I should say, I would act a little more confident around these parts if I were you. The women here tend to take more money than necessary from their clients...especially from drunkards like them...and shy boys like you"
"...I see"
"Well, see you later. Maybe we may meet each other again, you never know. Bye-bye," She says, waggling her black tail through her tight short jeans as she walks away with covering her head in her hoodie.
"...Hmm," He goes to himself, clapping once to get back his composure. "Alright...I think I'll just decide on this some other time. For now, I'm gonna buy a sword, find myself a nice phone and a great laptop, and just live my usual life; A sheltered weeb who enjoys simple things in life, which is the right thing to do...yeah"
He smiles, nodding at his quick understanding, slapping his pants like a happy kid. His smiling slowly disappears, as he slowly touches his pants again. His hands whiplash around every pocket on his body, laughing in disbelief, biting his lips as his soul drowns to despair.
"...Fuck," He goes, now accepting the fact that his wallet is missing.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.

She is not interested in fighting and levelling; all she wants is to have some fun and follow her own fantasies. If only there would not be all those idiots who intend to kill her, capture her, or simply use her. And those flaws in the game! Wait, what? Those pesky game characters now appear in the real world? As Dolores tries only to survive and hide between 'normal' people, she encounters stranger and stranger things that force her hand and, in the end, she has the answers to a lot of questions. It is a slow-developing story. I had a lot of fun writing it and hope to share it with you, dear reader if you also enjoy it. On the other hand, putting it in an acceptable form requires much work and energy. I intend to bring it to its end and not let it unfinished. I hate it when I encounter unfinished stories, so I understand the feeling. This is not a classical isekai story. There is travel between the two worlds, and the game world seems to be so very real... well, this is one plot of the story. This is not an MMORP game story. Part of the action happens inside a game world, but it is treated as a real world. Updates on a weekly basis, at least Monday and Friday, with additional bonus chapters as time and energy allow. Cover art: White Flower as A Dark Fairy by Darkrealmsmaiden Yolanda gracefully allowed me to use her dark fairy as cover. Unfortunately, this is not enough for people with a low tolerance for warped sentences and... they may want to skip the story :( Well, you have been warned :) I appreciate it when a reader points out a sentence that needs rework. That may spare a follow-up reader some pain and helps me understand where my English grammar problems are. * We thought we made the best game in Earth's history We thought we made the best interfaces ever seen We thought we made it - lifelike But it far exceeded our expectations.
