《The Warrens》Chapter XIII

Nico
NICO WAS BORED. SO BORED. REALLY BORED. REALLY REALLY BORED. Ever since Caleb and Nica left to buy something, he was left alone in the apartment. A gun was stashed under his pillow and his wounds were still in pain
He just stared at the ceiling and remembered the incident. That Dr. Crazy! He just had to shoot him! Right now, he felt useless. He was supposed to be the detective of the group. Ever since their lives went haywire, he had been the only one who hadn't been able to do anything. Nica could trace Dr. Crazy. Nis could just hack stuff in his computer and invent stuff, too. Niche was a natural leader and a quick thinker. Him?
"Nothing." he muttered to himself.
Nico looked around. He noticed a laptop on a table nearby. It was at least three steps away! He thought he had to make himself useful to his siblings, so he was going to track his parents. He tried sitting up, only to wince in pain his wounds were giving him. On his fourth try, he was able to support himself and sat up. When he was on his way to get off the bed he was in, he fell.
He landed with a thud and probably muttered a few cusses too. Black spots started to dance in his vision and he felt his wounds opening up. He felt something warm oozing from them and his vision turned black.
When he woke up, he was back on the bed. He was still dizzy, yes, but not in pain. Nico noticed that his bandages were fresh and new. Maybe Nica and Caleb were back? And saw him on a very pitiful situation too. Suddenly, the door opened and revealed his older twin brother, Nis.
"Nis? How are you here?" he asked.

"I traced Nica's call and it led me and Niche here." he answered casually and gave him a bro fist.
The door opened once again and Niche came in. Well, more like dashed and gave him a tight hug which almost choked him. "My gods! Nico! I was so worried!"
"Niche.....calm....down....please!"
"Sis, I think you're choking him." Nis said. Niche immediately let go and he gasped for air.
"Sorry Nico. I was just so worried." he gave her a reassuring smile. "Do you know how worried I was when I found you unconscious and bleeding on the floor?"
"I'm fine Niche. Really. At least now, that is."
"Where's Nica by the way? We searched the whole apartment and didn't find her." Niche asked. Nico noticed Nis already sat on a chair nearby and fidgeted with his laptop.
"Nica went out to buy some medicine for me. We're almost out of stock." he answered.
The door suddenly opened and a familiar guy went in. At least familiar to him. He saw Niche and Nis pointed their guns on the newly arrived guy and Caleb in return stiffened.
"Nica? There are strangers who look a lot like you in the room." he voiced.
"What do you- Niche? Nis?"
Nica dashed to Niche and hugged her, then to Nis. Caleb just leaned on the door frame and watched their reunion.
"Wow! So there really are four of you. Amazing!" he said with amusement.
"Who are you?" Niche asked. "Who is he?" and looked at Nico.
"He's the owner of this apartment." Nico answered.
"If you had another person in the house, why did you leave Nico alone here, huh Nica?"
"Niche, I had to withdraw money from the bank. I can't just send Caleb to do it for me!" Nica replied.

There were tension between the two, and started to bicker. The boys just watched them, either amused with the fighting girls or too afraid to stop them.
When they were about to brawl, that was when Nico got full of it.
"YOU TWO STOP!!!" he yelled. "Guys, fighting amongst ourselves won't solve our problem. I thought you guys said cooperation is the key to succeed on this thing."
He sighed.
"Niche, don't shout at Nica." he said. "She's trying her best to take care of me. She has an injury herself but she still takes care of me. And Nica, don't argue everything Niche says. For once, you two should try talk ing like civilized citizens does! Don't immediately lash at each other and try to rip each other's head off! You get what I mean?"
"Sorry Nico." his two sisters also said together. Well, if there was something the two had ever agreed upon, it was reading, but most of the time they just scream at each other.
"Good. Now you two should make up. You guys should also probably get out of here. I wanna rest."
All four nodded and went out. Nico sighed. He could be useless with the fight and investigations his siblings did, but Nico just realized he was an important part of their group.
He was the glue that held them together. And he will stick to that role till the end.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14
