《Idea Exploration》A Purpose (one shot)

A/N: Hmm… Not sure what I wrote here, but it’s pretty short. Could be useful for something in the future though. I just decided to write what was in my head.
Anyways, enjoy.
Running through the dead of night, a solitary figure makes his way through a forest, the moon lighting the way and reflecting off of the night mists in an ethereal dream.
Fuck. Fuck! Fuck-ity FUCK! It wasn’t meant to happen like this. It was supposed to be an easy job. Nobody was supposed to die! Billy. Bob. Mark. All DEAD! With ragged breaths, he struggles through the dense foliage, caring not where his path lay.
A group of men in hot pursuit can be seen clamoring in the same direction moments later. The glint of steel and gleam of well worn wood can be seen in the dancing torch light. The baying of hounds guide the group of 12 through the dense undergrowth towards their quarry.
As both the hunter and hunted near the heart of the forest, the mists grow steadily thicker, soon concealing all. The sounds of pursuit becomes muted within the mists leaving little more than the orange glow of torches to mark their progress.
“Halt!” A well built man calls the party to a stop. “We go no further than this. Turn back. What lies ahead is no longer within the realm of man.”
Not seeing the danger in their ignorance, several younger members voice their objection.
“But why Sam?”
“He’s so close!”
“With a few more minutes, we would have caught up to him!”
“SILENCE!” Sam’s tone brooks no argument. The sounds of both hound and man cease at his outburst. Cold and merciless, he narrows his eyes whilst sneering at the greenhorns.
“Do you know what these mists are? Do you know the darkness that lurks within? Many men have ventured into its depths in their folly. Many men far greater than I. None have made it back. If you are wise, you will turn back and return to the village, same as I. There is no use following that man now. The mists have claimed him, as they you if you are fool enough to follow.”

Without a word, he grabs the collar of the nearest hound and begins the trek from whence they came. Coming out of their shock at Sam’s outburst, the veterans round up the remaining hounds and turn to follow the receding glow of torchlight. Staring off into its depths another moment, the greenhorns hesitantly follow behind their elders.
Deeper within, the hunted continues to flee. The surrounding mists forming and breaking vague images, nightmares and dreams alike.
I should be safe now. They can’t possibly track me within this thick fog. I need to get out of here. But then what? They’re dead.
...who’s dead. I can’t remember their names! F-fuck. What did I run in here for? Who was I running from! Why was I running!
Wait.
Who am I?!?
Getting progressively panicked, the solitary figure falls to his knees and begins to moan at his loss, his irrevocable loss. Of what had been. Of what could have been. His very being.
Silencing his wails, a sudden calm washes over him and he peers into the folds within the curtain of fog.
I- I have… I have what?
Nothing.
But I must go.
No.
I have to go. Into the mists. It, calls me. Beckons.
I must go.
As his eyes glaze over, the lone figure rises to its feet. No longer fleeing, it continues on into the depths of the mist.
P.s. While I may be taking a step back from Genesis to figure out how I want to proceed with the story, I’ll still be making experimental chapters until I’m ready to post so expect at least 2-3 decent ones in quick succession when it updates.

Delve
Summary – Level 1: Delve is an isekai litrpg that follows an average guy who just happened to wake up in a forest one day. He wasn’t summoned to defeat the demon lord or to save the world or anything like that, at least as far as he can tell. The only creature there to greet him was a regular old squirrel. Soon enough, he meets other people, only to discover that he can’t speak the language, and that not everybody immediately trusts random pajama-wearing strangers they met in the middle of the wilderness. Things generally go downhill from there, at least until the blue boxes start appearing. Delve is a story about finding your way in a new, strange, and dangerous world. It’s about avoiding death, figuring out what the heck is going on, and trying to make some friends along the way. It’s not about getting home, so much as finding a new one. Did I mention that there will be math? Summary – Level 2: Okay, but what are you in for, really? Well, this story is supposed to be realistic, or at least, as realistic as a fantasy litrpg can be. The main character doesn’t instantly become an all-powerful god and murder-hobo his way across the universe. Delve is, at its heart, a progression fantasy, but that progression is meant to feel earned. The numbers in this story actually mean something. Everything is calculated, and if you find a rounding error, I expect you to tell me about it. That said, if math isn’t your cup of tea, there is plenty more that the story has to offer. Characters are meant to feel real, and progression isn’t only about personal power; it’s also about allies, connections, and above all, knowledge. Figuring out how the system works is a significant theme. ... What, you want more details? Okay, fine, but this is going to get a bit spoiler-y. Are you sure? Yes! Really sure? I mean, this summary is practically half as long as the first chap– Now! Okay, okay! The main character becomes a magic user, but he takes a route that is not very popular in adventurer culture, namely that of a support. There is a full magic system with various spells, skills, and abilities, but our MC decides that aura magic is the way to go, and that the only stat worth investing in is mana regeneration. Most people at the Adventurer’s Guild think that this makes him a bit of a dumbass, but he’s playing the long game. We’ll see how that works out for him, won’t we? Because of his build, the MC levels up fast, at least compared to normal people. There are no cheats, though, and he is limited in other ways. There are some clear and pretty obvious downsides to his build. That’s what makes it fun, no? Morals? Our MC has them. Again, we’ll see how that works out for him. Realism, remember? Would you be okay with killing someone and looting their body? I sure hope not. POV? The focus is on the main character, but there will be occasional varying perspectives from people around him, or involved in the events related to the main plot. It isn’t going to jump all over the place. Tech is standard medieval stasis. No smartphones, but the MC does have a technical background. Computers and their programming might be involved. There might even be a bit of uplifting down the road, who knows? Anyway, it isn’t the focus. He isn’t going to invent the gun in chapter 1 and change the face of warfare. Romance is not a major focus. Friendships are more the name of the game, though there will be some characters in romantic relationships. There is exploration, though not as much of the geographical nature as you might expect. It is more about exploration of the system and the culture. The pace is slow and detailed, sometimes verging on slice-of-life. The action is meant to be realistic and grounded in the numbers, and it is intended to have meaning beyond simply punching things until they stop moving. The general tone of the story is grey, and some parts can get quite dark. People die. Sometimes, people with names, but not anywhere near GoT level. There is plenty of light, too, though, to balance the darkness. The world is dangerous, but overcoming that danger is why we’re all here, isn’t it? Anyway, if you’ve made it this far through the summary, you clearly like words. I hope you enjoy the story! Cover by Miha Brumec Summary Updated: 2020-06-14

Dimensional Originator
Adam is having a terrible time. To start the day off he died in a car accident. And that isn't even the most painful thing that happened to him. That would be merging with a strange crystal. After that he ended up stuck in an endless black void. He does eventually get rescued. But quickly realizes his soul has been put in the body of a fallen noble and his fate is to be little more than a breeding slave for the cultivation clan that purchased him. To top it all off his new body had been bedridden for weeks and he can barely get out of bed. Not everything is terrible though. The crystal he merged with is called a dimensional originator. Using life and death energy he can create miniature universes. Given enough energy and time he could even create an entire universe. For a moment Adam thought things were looking up. Too bad the author finds things going horribly wrong far more entertaining. Warning: If this fiction was a movie I'd rate it as somewhere between PG-13 and R for violence, gore, and nudity.

The Traveler
Reincarnated with no information other than a single mysterious message, little Damian must survive as an infant in a world of might and magic. He’d better not get caught possessing his memories, or he might spend a thousand years suffering. Being a baby in another world is weird, disorientating, scary, disgusting, and also heartwarming. It doesn’t just happen for no reason, but the “why?” might be a harder puzzle to solve than conquering the whole entire realm. Both of those eventualities were very remote possibilities for an unusually smart baby. He was more concerned with making it to his first birthday without being damned by the gods or eaten by dangerous monster.
