《Devoid of Luck》Chapter 03 - Monotone, Are they clones or something? (Part 1)

Someone said I'm not expressing feelings enough (or at all), I'll try my best to change it.
---
The huge bulky man stood right in front of me, he looked much taller and bigger up close.
I myself was quite tall at 1.90m, but he was at least 2 heads taller than me!
“Haven’t you heard me? Leave!”
Thinking about it, he has a weird accent, but I can understand him clearly.
Seems like this place might be not that far from where I have lived before…
But that shouldn’t be right…
Didn’t I receive this weird note that said I’m a traveler to this world? It said it was from the god of this place, and judging by the gifts I have received and the manner I got them in, it might be true.
(Author note: Everything that the wooden cabin contained)
“S...sir, I apologize for trespassing, I did not know this place was private property… “
My voice was a little stiff from the embarrassment caused by the misunderstanding.
“I already said it is fine, just leave already! I already have enough balls to think about even without yours...”
I stare at the bulky man, trying not to laugh, pretending that I didn’t hear the words he just said after he told me to leave.
“I apologize again, but do you mind pointing me towards the nearest city?”
The man points towards the hill to his left. “There”.
He mumbled something that sounded like “Now he thinks I’m gay…” and then proceeded walking towards the location of the “muddy” area,
seems like from the beginning I wasn’t what he was walking towards.
“Thank you very much!”
Too embarrassed to feel any other emotion towards the guy, I thanked him and
ran towards the hill, hoping to never encounter this man ever again.
Reaching the top of the hill I spotted a simple gray stone trail and started following it.

Having nothing to do other than endlessly walk, I decided to check what was in the pouch.
I untied it from my belt and opened it.
“Cookies!!”
Grabbing a cookie and popping it into my mouth, I’m filled with joy, there are no words to explain their taste! Those cookies are the best cookies I have ever had in my life! I’ll name them “Heavenly Cookies” because I don’t think there is anything that could ever compare to them!
Eating cookie after cookie, I noticed something weird, the weight of the pouch doesn’t change.
I take out all of the cookies at the same time and in an instant the pouch is full of cookies again!
“The pouch always stays full, what a convenient pouch!”
I open up the metal canteen and take a sip, the liquid inside tastes like slightly sweetened water.
“Maybe the canteen is the same as the pouch?”
I turned the canteen upside down, letting the water spill to the ground, minutes passed and the water didn’t stop flowing out even for a single moment. Seems like the canteen is indeed just like the pouch. I wonder who was the genius who invented this mechanism. Isn’t this what they could call witchcraft?
“Heavenly Pouch of Endless Cookies” and “Heavenly Canteen of Endless Nectar” is what I decided to name those convenient objects since the one claiming to be God sent them to me.
At the very least I didn’t have to worry about dying from hunger before I reach the town.
I walked for 3 days straight, only stopping to eat and drink every time I got hungry…
No matter how long I walked, all I could see around was short green grass, covering many hills.
There were no animals, no people, no trees, nothing, except for hills covered with green grass.
It felt as if someone took a small area and endlessly cloned it to create a large land.

The only thing that held me from going crazy was the blue sky, filled with differently shaped clouds while the sunlight was out, and the shining stars when night came. However, there was no moon and all of the stars seemed as if they all were the same size which seemed a little weird…
Being tired from all the sleepless nights I decided to take a nap on the hill since it seems there is nothing that could harm me around here, or more correctly, there was nothing living around here at all. I couldn’t relax too much because of the unnerving feeling this place gave me, but at the very least I know I will be safe from predators.
Laying down on the green grass, I closed my eyes and began sleeping. I don’t know how long I slept for, but when I woke up I was fully rested, even though my body felt a little stiff…
I slowly opened my eyes and looked towards the sky, for a moment the sky looked purely white, and the next moment it became cloudy but blue.
“Maybe it was just my imagination”
The more I thought about it, the more it disturbed me, not able to hold my fears inside anymore, I started running as fast as I could and suddenly a strong wind blew against my eyes, I couldn’t resist but to close them for a moment.
When I opened my eyes I could see a tall stone wall with a wooden gate in the horizon,
probably I finally reached the city the farm owner pointed me towards. I couldn’t see where the walls ended, probably really far away.
Arriving to my destination I could see that guarding the gate were 4 masked men, I couldn’t see any weapons. Those guards were at least as tall as the farm owner. Their masks looked like simple bronze smiling face masks, hiding their faces and only letting their eyes see through. I didn’t mind it at all, because I finally found some living souls in this endlessly empty world!
The fright I got from not seeing anything other than the repetitive world outside and the fluctuating sky slowly faded away and I slowly was more and more relaxed.
As soon as I took a step forward, towards the gate, the guards didn’t stop me but instead immediately opened it, not stopping me and not asking me any questions.
I probably don’t look like I could pose a threat to them as I don’t have any weapons on me…
And let's face it… Comparing to their body build, I was like a feather facing a rock.
Instead of them I wouldn’t be wary of me either…
In front of me, inside the walls, beyond the gate, there scenery finally looked different.
Gravel trails stretching in every direction, windmills, huts, stone houses and small gardens filled the land. I stepped inside.
In front of my eyes there was a signpost.
It looked very organized, neat and boring, and there were no extra explanations on it, it simply stated which route leads to which location.
City HallRoute 1Housing AreaRoute 2LibraryRoute 3MarketRoute 4Medicine HallRoute 5
I started to ponder… “Where should I go first?”
---
Please don't read this if you don't want any help in understanding the meaning of the signpost:
Spoiler: Author Note The sign symbolizes the routes and choices every person has to make in life:
Politics, Studies, Money, Health, and Family.
Or it can symbolize the safe routes one can decide to live on.
Getting a degree from the university, Participating in politics, Becoming a businessman, Becoming a doctor, or finding a mate that could provide for both sides.
Obviously this is not the only thing that can be interpreted in this chapter, but this is one of the major ones.
