《Boundless [COMPLETED]》XXV

You were right.
I read Ava's message over and over again, not sure what would be deemed a proper reaction.
I was right, and I was certain I was right since the start. I wanted to avoid seeing her get hurt, but the pain was inevitable since the beginning.
My fingers hovered over the phone as I deliberated on whether to respond or not.
Everybody knows you're a cheater.
Her words rang in my ear and I finally decided to turn off my phone.
I've been staying at a hotel for the past two days since I had a valid fear of him turning up suddenly to my house.
Damian looked like he still had so many questions to ask but he never did end up speaking any of them outloud for the fear of me breaking down again. I haven't seen him since I left his mansion but I do see one of his guards lounging by the area every now and then, probably assigned to make sure nothing bad happens to me.
A smile threatened to plaster over my cheeks when I first saw that. It's been years since I betrayed him, yet he still worried about me. Even though I don't deserve it.
A ding sounded from my phone and broke me out of my trail of thoughts.
-Where are you? Why are you not home?
It was Ava again.
I sighed and decided not to respond again. Then, my phone started ringing and I wasn't surprised to see her contact illuminating from the phone. I pondered over whether to respond or not.
But what if he goes and sees her there? What if he decides to use her against me again?
I shook my head and decided that thought was too far fetched. She wouldn't wait for me if I'm not there. She's Ava, never one to wander in a place for too long. Finally, I decided to just power off my phone to not receive her calls.

If I was going to keep forgiving her each time she made a mistake, I would only be giving her the permission to step over me. This wasn't the first time she says something like that to me.
I distracted myself by rearranging the hotel room and showering soon after.
Approximately an hour later, I decided that maybe I was being too much. Regardless of the fact that her words wounded me, she's not just anyone who I can throw away. She's my best friend, the only person who stuck with me for all these years.
I powered on my phone again and decided to perhaps respond to her.
-I'm sorry, alright? Stop leaving me on read. I need you.
My breath hitches as I see that message. Maybe I shouldn't have ignored her.
-Where are you?
I finally decided to type. I waited for a couple of minutes but to no avail. Minutes soon turned to an hour which was so unlike her.
Maybe she's napping? I tried to convince myself before I grabbed my phone and searched for her contact.
Why did I wait so long to finally call? I think to myself as I wait for her to respond.
I let out a sigh of relief when my call goes through.
"Ava, how are you?"
A cackle resonated from the other side of the phone causing my breath to hitch.
"Finally," he laughed and I felt like I was living through what happened 3 years ago for the second time.

Braza the Architect - Magical Crafter, Builder, and Adventurer!
This is the story of an older man who lived a hard but full life, being reincarnated into a fantasy world as a human-lizard hybrid. The new world is violent, magic is real, a game-like development system crushes physics and natural law under its ambivalent thumb, and myth and legend don't just meet, they chase you down to eat you.Follow Braza as he tries to make a very different life for himself in a familiar but ultimately alien world. In this story the protaginist will not just be a muscle bound monster. He is not a proper hero, willing to sacrifice himself for the good of a stranger, but neither is he a maniacal villain. He is trying to survive, and he is trying to give himself and those he deems himself responsible for a seat at the table of the"goodly", the "civilized" races. He is trying to create a secure home for his people, to arrange beneficial trade agreements, explore ancient ruins, decipher ancient runes, push the boundaries of magic to create a better life for everyone around him, to learn about the history of the world and the multiverse, and ultimately attempt to become powerful enough to take on a being that even the gods themselves fear. This is my first story and it blends many different elements and styles. It's a bit darker than most of what I have read on Royal Road, but even with that, I hope you give it a try, and I hope you like it!

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.

Cheaters Always Win
Chester Everheart knew that life wasn't fair. Some were born in situations where it was almost impossible to succeed, whereas others were born with a silver spoon with everything at their disposal. A scant few were dropped into another world, filled with monsters and magic and forced to fend for themselves. The latter was a rare, somewhat ridiculous trope; but it happened to him anyway. Despite this he followed a motto that applied regardless of the dimension he was in. Playing fair is for suckers, and cheaters always win. Cheaters Always Win is a comedy-adventure that I've had churning in my head for a couple years now. I'd like to think it still has the charm that most LitRPGs have while also being unique in its own way. Every arc of the story will subsequently have a 'Level Complete' chapter that details all the stats, levels, equipment, etc. gained by the main cast of characters.
