《The Female Alpha // ✓》C H A P T E R N I N E | Part One

My eyes opened to the slight warmth of the sunlight coming through the window. I smiled and took a deep breath in and a deep breath out.
I sat up in my bed and took off the covers. Today was the day. I was going to become the Female Alpha.
Because I have become of age, 18, I am becoming the alpha. Since Lewis isn't old enough, or Charlie. They're only 5.
I got out of my bed and grabbed a beautiful black dress. I smiled, my green eyes shining.
This was mums dress, I told May.
Yeah, I know, she replied sadly. I took in a deep breath and sat the dress down. I walked over to the bathroom and started the shower.
I stripped down and stepped into the warmth of the falling water. I sighed in content at the feeling of the water on my back.
When I had finished, I stopped the water and stepped out, towel wrapped around my once naked body. I towel dried my raven black hair, then walked over to my bed where my things were set out.
My black dress (which was once my mothers) my silver high heels, clean underwear, and a brush.
I got dressed into all those things, well, except for the brush. When I was dressed, I brushed my long silky hair and swept it to the side, then started fishtailing it and making my way down to the ends of my hair.
Once I reached the bottom, I held the braid's end with one hand, and the other hand searching through my box of hair ties, looking for a simple grey or silver one to match my shoes.
I eventually found a silver hair tie and I wrapped it around the end of the braid. I lightly tugged on the edges to make it a bit looser.

Now, time for makeup!!
I grabbed my foundation and eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara, highlighter, contour, blush, lipstick, and some lipgloss.
I started with the foundation. I squirted some into my hand and added a bit from another bottle, so it could match my skin tone. Then I gently rubbed it into my face.
When it was all rubbed in, I grabbed my eyeshadow. On my eyelid, I did a light coat of pale grey, then on the crease a sparkly silver.
I added the black eyeliner and mascara to my eyes also. My green eyes popped well with the dark outline.
I picked out my fan brush and side-swept it lightly through the contour, then applied it to my upper jawline and the sides of the bridge of my nose. I blended it into my skin, then sat the brush down. I grabbed the highlighter and applied it to my cheek bones, down the bridge of my nose, on my forehead, on my chin, on my philtrum, and above and below my eyebrows. I blended it in and moved onto the blush.
I applied it in between the highlighter and the contour on my cheeks, blended it in, and moved onto the lips.
I picked up my baby pink lipstick and ran the brush along my lips. Once the liquid lipstick had dried, I dabbed my finger into the lipgloss (that was the same colour as the lipstick) and swept it across my lips to add some shine.
My make up was done.

Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
