《Daddy Unknown》Chapter 21

The first thing Moira noticed when opening her eyes, was the tiny bundle of joy that was sound asleep on her chest. Never in her life had she felt so proud of another person. And he was her son, her flesh and blood. She smiled to herself, and gently rubbed his back; glad to see he hadn't woken up like his mommy. At first, the thought of sleeping with Oliver on her chest had scared her to death. What if she moved and he rolled off and had a bad landing? Or what if he rolled of and she squished him? A nurse had explained to her that as long as she avoided falling into a deep sleep and had her hands on his back to support him, nothing would happen. Why not you ask? Mother instinct apparently. Since you aren't in a deep sleep, it's easier for your unconsciousness to notice when something happens that isn't supposed to happen and thus force you to wake up.
Something happening didn't appear to be the reason she woke up, because the second thing she noticed was a certain person sitting beside her hospital bed.
"Harry?" Moira croaked, having trouble finding her voice.
"Morning sunshine." He smiled lazily, pecking her forehead. Taking a good look at him, she noticed dark shadows beneath his eyes. And he was having a hard time keeping them open, judging by the way they threatened to close every few seconds. She concluded he hadn't slept yet.
"What time is it?"
Checking the watch on his wrist, Harry answered. "Nearly 5am."
Last night, after giving birth to her beautiful little angel, Moira was given an hour of bonding time with her son. Which was -after she dismissed her hospital gown- mainly spent with him placed on her chest; the direct skin-to-skin contact would keep him warm as well as make him remember his mommy's scent. Or so Dr. Patel had told her.
Breastfeeding was a whole new kind of affair. The first round of 'feeding', directly after giving birth, was nothing compared to the second. She'd blamed it on beginner's luck because all that could go wrong the second time, went wrong. She had read plenty of books and thought she had a pretty good idea of what to expect, yet she'd proved herself the opposite. After a nurse had showed her how to properly hold her son, she had also assured Moira that it would get better with time. It was a matter of getting used to, for both parties.

Most women would probably get some sleep after giving birth, seeing as the emotional and physical rollercoaster had taken a serious toll on their bodies. Moira, however, straight up refused. No matter how exhausted she felt, she wouldn't surrender to sleep until her son had gotten his Hepatitis B shot, she'd filled out the birth certificate and they had performed a heel-stick blood test as well as a skills check on Ollie. Eventually, the conformation that he was indeed a very healthy baby, had made her drop into a slumber.
Barely three hours after falling asleep, she was wide awake and surprisingly full of energy. Though her body seemed to disagree with her head. Because the minute she moved to sit up in bed, everything began screaming with extreme soreness. Moira's face twisted in discomfort, making Harry instantly shoot forward to help her up while also supporting a sleeping Ollie.
Once she got comfortable, and settled Oliver in the cradle hold, she turned back to Harry. "Why haven't you gone home yet? You should be in bed right now, Harry."
He shrugged, "I didn't feel comfortable leaving the two of you alone. Your mum went back home to get some rest and promised to come back at 7am so I wanted to be here until then."
They continued talking for a while, until Oliver was getting restless and started emitting little cry noises. "Oh baby, are you hungry?" Moira cooed, placing a small kiss on Oliver's nose. All she had to do was guide him to her breast and let him suckle. And like expected, he seemed starved.
It wasn't until then that it dawned upon her she'd been naked all this time with just a blanket covering her lower body. Strangely enough, it felt like the most natural thing in the world. And the fact Harry wasn't ogling her, only made the situation all the less of a big deal. He was still a man after all, and she was still a woman. It warmed her heart to know he respected her enough to not constantly eye her exposed upper body.
Ollie turned his head away from her breast indicating he was full, Moira burped him and settled him back in the cradle hold. Almost instantly, he closed his eyes and fell back asleep.
"So? What's the plan?" Harry asked quietly. His voice was scratchy and low, but only because he was trying not to wake Oliver. It sounded comforting. It sounded like home.

She turned her head to the side to look at him, and was surprised at how truly close his face was to her. In the dark of the room, she could just barely see the hint of green that was his eyes and the out-line of his lips. She found herself staring at them.
"We're likely to be discharged from the hospital within a few hours, we could've left after the examinations but I fell asleep." She admitted sheepishly, shaking herself from whatever naughty thoughts were playing with her mind. "I'm sorry I fell asleep. You could've been home by now."
She gazed down at the baby in her arms, admiring his features. His nose and ears were definitely hers, the shape of his face as well. His mouth, the color of his hair and eyes, however, not so much. He had perfectly plump, pink lips and a wide mouth that would surely make a beautiful smile in the future. His eyes were a fading green-ish color and his hair was chocolate-like. But when it came to his eye and hair color, nothing was certain, the colors could change over the next few months -according to a book she had read.
Glancing up, she saw Harry looking deep in thought, his jaw clenched and eyes narrowed. When the silence began lasting an awful long time, she started doubting herself. Had she said something wrong?
"Harry?"
Exhaling deeply, he looked back up at her and blinked a few times. "How about," he said. "I go home now, have an hour nap, then come back to take you guys home."
Oh so that's what had him thinking.
"How about," she retorted. "You go home, sleep and then come say hi to us when you've had at least 10 hours of rest."
He stared at her with a blank face, then deadpanned: "Not an option."
"But Harry-"
"No, I'm taking you home. And besides, your mum doesn't even have a car so she'd have to get a cab or rent a car or get your car first."
"Good point." She sighed in defeat. "Can you take my car though? It already has Oliver's car seat installed in it."
"What the lady wishes, the lady gets. I'll see you in a bit." He hummed in her ear, kissing the corner of her mouth; making her crave for more than just a measly peck. He softly kissed Ollie's cheek. And just when she thought he was leaving, he slowly leant into her, watching her every move. Holding her breath, Moira shivered as his masculine scent entered her nose. Dear lord, it was heavenly. The proximity would have made her feel uncomfortable mere months ago, but right then, nothing had ever felt so right. And nothing had ever scared her more.
"H-Harraël.. y-you should... go..." She tried to tell him, pushing him away like usual. But she couldn't concentrate with him so close to her. Taking a deep breath, she tried to calm herself.
"Harry, you-"
"Shut up," he cut her off, cupping her face with both hands. "Just shut up." He caught her in a proper 'see ya'. His lips were soft and warm against hers, and they moved eagerly-excitedly, lapping at her. His tongue was rolling against her lips, demanding entrance, and she obeyed without question. He had her so focused on their kissing that she had momentarily forgotten how inappropriate it was to exchange such a heated kiss in the company of a child. A sleeping child, at that. Who could wake up at any given moment.
She pulled away from the kiss with a jerk. Harry's dimples poked from his lips as he smirked cockily down at her, an eyebrow raised.
"Stop it, Stones. Ollie is..."
She trailed off when Harry brought her head back for another kiss. This time she felt his teeth grazing her bottom lip, sucking gently as she closed her eyes and melted into the kiss. She was involuntarily letting out small moans, enjoying their lip-locking a little too much. His own grunts only excited her further.
For Pete's sake, control yourself! Her inner voice forced her to pull away, breathing heavily. Harry shot her another smirk, obviously quite satisfied with himself.
Without another word, he made way for the door, then stopped dead in his tracks. "Oh before I forget," he turned back around. "Lizzy is coming over in two weeks, she can't wait to see Ollie."
And with that, he disappeared behind the door.
