《1984》Chpt. 40

I turned off the shower with a thump. I waited there for a few seconds to let my nerves calm and the water drip off me some. My breaths were very deep and slow. With every inhale, I closed my eyes and held it. ....And with every exhale, I let it out slow as I opened my eyes.

After a few paces, I finally moved and picked up a towel to dry myself with. I quickly wiped off my already mostly dry body. I tightly wrapped the towel around my waist and shuffled over to the rack where my clothes were. The only set of clothes that were laid out was a plain, black long sleeve that looked awfully small and more tight jeans.

With a sigh, I threw those clothes on. As I thought, the shirt was a bit too small for me and I felt like I was being suffocated. When I lifted my arms, the shirt lifted high enough to reveal my belly button and the fabric around my arms nearly cut off my circulation. The jeans of course were a bit tight and rested low on my hips, but were comfortable in a way. My issue lied solely in that blasted shirt.

At last, I just huffed and went on with my day. I simply could not let a mere shirt slow my work down. ..No matter how suffocatingly tight...

When I emerged from the bathroom, I really just went the backway into the room where the closet in which I used to inhabit was. That's where all the cleaning supplies were, since there was no furniture in there. It was a very odd, kind of daftly planned out house.

Usually after guests of Lance's come over, Marcy and I clean up the mess in the afternoon, or.. whenever the hell it is we get up. This means we clean the dishes, wipe the table and chairs, vacuum and mop the floor, and sometimes wax it and the furniture. However, we already waxed last time, so no need this time. Of course, though, up until now, it was the both if us, but today, it was just me...

I took the bucket full of the mop and cleaning towel and set out to the dining room. As soon as my bare feet hit the wood floor, I could feel the slight stickiness from the humidity outside. I turned my head to the right to look out of the windows, and sure enough, it wasn't raining, but there was a fog outside and everything was damp.

The view.. It seemed to paralyze me. I just.. couldn't take my eyes off the fog and the trees. The redwoods and spruces reminded me so much of the trees and thick, thick woods back east.

..I think that's probably why I moved to Seattle. Even though It's similar in climate to the northeast, it's also way different. More rainy. Harsher winters. There's even more woods than in the northeast. Washington is really the perfect state for me. Nice and cool, a little sparse, but dense in places with people.
