Sixteen years later
"Chanel get up before we are late to work...again" Santana said throwing a small pink furry square pillow at her best friend, who was still sleeping. She walked out the room and headed to the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea.
"Time to face the world Santana" she said to herself quietly adding honey to her green tea, repeating what Miss Lisa said to her sixteen years ago. Those words still replayed in her head and she hasn't seen Miss Lisa since then. The social worker got in contact with her Uncle Ty and she had to move in with him and his wife, since he was her only family member.
"Chanel-"
"All done" Chanel smiled coming out from the back taking her bonnet off letting her box braids fall. She was fully dressed and ready like she wasn't knocked out five minutes ago. She had on high waisted jeans that showed off her curves perfectly, a long sleeve v-neck black shirt that made her C-cup breast sit up nice and perky with thigh high leather boots.
"Happy Birthday" Chanel smiled hugging her best friend tightly for a few seconds before letting go.
"Thank you"
Santana grabbed the cars keys off the counter and threw them to her best friend. Chanel quickly held her hand out and caught them.
"Your driving"
"I knew it" Chanel groaned. They both walked up to the coat rack and grabbed their coats before heading out to work.
"What you wanna do tonight?" Chanel ask as they walked down the flight of steps.
"I don't know" Santana answered. "I might stay home-"
"Like you did last year?"
"Yea" Santana answered shrugging her shoulders.
They walked out their apartment building feeling the cold breeze. Autumn was approaching so that hot summer weather in Detroit was starting to turn cold and windy.

"Girl it's your twenty first birthday I am taking you out tonight" her best friend smile as they walked to their car they shared together.
"Chanel you don't have to do that-"
"I'm already going out with Diamond and Nikki anyway and you are coming too"
Hearing those names Santana rolled her eyes on the low, biting her tongue refusing to speak what was on her mind. Diamond and Nikki wasn't really her friends they were more Chanel friends.
While Chanel was more of the party animal type Santana was more calm She barely went out clubbing or drink.
"Santana if you don't want them to tag along-"
"It's fine I guess I can let loose tonight" she smiled softly getting in the car. Chanel started the car and turned on some music before driving off to work.
They both worked at the same hair salon Beauty and Beyond but To Santana this was a temporary job to her. While Chanel wanted to actually be a hairstylist Santana wanted to become an RN. She went to Wayne County Community College studying Nursing. Santana had her goal and she was sticking to it until she achieved it.
"Hopefully this day goes by fast cause I am excited for tonight" Chanel cheesed pulling up to their location. "My boo is gonna be there to celebrate with us and he is even bringing his friends"
"Nice I haven't seen Trigga in while where has he been anyway?"
"Out of town he had to handle business" she answered. Once we walked inside all the girls screamed Happy Birthday making her smile from ear to ear. She thanked them as Taylor, the owner came out from the back with a small cake and a few cupcakes around it.
"I'm sorry they are squished Marie made them last night"

Marie was Taylor seven year old daughter that Santana would watch from time to time for her so she didn't really mind how they looked.
"It's okay I appreciate them anyway thank you"
The day actually went by fast and before they knew it they was closing down the shop, heading home, and getting ready for tonight.
___
"It's my best friend birthday!!!" Chanel screamed as they walked into VIP. She ran up to her boo, Trigga, who was with his boys. Diamond and Nikki quickly ran over to his friends with their six inch heels and short dresses showing off their asses.
Santana made her way to the corner and slowly sipped her drink bobbing her head to the music watching everyone else having a good time, dancing and drinking like the world was ending tomorrow. She felt a little uncomfortable in the outfit Chanel picked out for her but she didn't complain. It was a white two piece top and bottom set. The strapless top that had a back strip that came into a choker made her breast sit up perfectly , the white skirt had her ass looking right that had most guys in awe with royal blue heels to top it off.
A couple of guys would come over and ask her to dance or have a drink but she would declined. She was enjoying her birthday how she wanted to enjoy it.
"Happy Birthday"
She turned around and seen a caramel skin handsome guy with light brown eyes. He smiled, showing off his pearly white teeth that sparkle every time the light hit. Everything about him screamed dangerous, from the designer clothes he was wearing to the jewelry around his wrist and neck but Santana ignored it.
"I uhh Thank you"
"I'm King what's your name?"
"Santana"
"You look beautiful how old are you?"
"Twenty one and you-"
"Girl!! What you doing?!" Diamond asked standing next to her. She stuck out her breast trying to get King attention.
"Uh just talking-"
"Come have a shot with us" she demands pulling her away almost spilling the drink out of her cup. A little bit of liquor poured out trickling down her hand but Santana ignore it since she didn't have napkins on her.
They made it to the bar which was filled with shot glasses. Santana watched her friends pick one up and threw it back quickly before screaming and laughing. At first she hesitated picking up the shot but with the encouragement of her best friend cheering her on she quickly threw it back feeling the burning sensation go down the back of her throat.
When Santana turned around she spotting Diamond cheesing in King face pressing up against him in the VIP lounge. She shrugged her shoulder and made her way back going to another dark corner. Guys was the last thing on Santana mind right now she was trying to own her first car and house before she hit twenty five. Plus she knew what type of guy King was and she was not trying to get involve she had other plans with her life.

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
