《Saving Wisdom and Wizards || PJO x HP Crossover》Chapter 47: Achilles

Percy apparated to L.A.
He knew what he was doing was stupid and reckless. But any edge they could get over Voldemort was good enough for him.
~~~
Percy took a deep breath before heading into the Underworld.
He hated this place. He forgot how much he hated it.
It was dark. And hot. It smelt like sulfur.
Percy groaned. He had to do this. For Annabeth. For everyone back at Hogwarts.
After asking directions from a dead guy (which basically just consisted of the ghost yelling at him to leave and not look back), Percy stood at the banks of the River Styx.
Percy wondered if it would be like last time when he jumped in.
But last time he was a demigod.
What if when he jumped in, he just, like... died?
What if he didn't make it?
Percy shook his head. He's done it once, he can do it again.
But what if he can't?
He wasn't even supposed to survive the first time.
Percy took another deep breath of hot air, and jumped in.
~~~
"Surprise, Perseus."
"Percy, help us!"
"My dear boy, I am so sorry..."
"Percy, I am so proud of the person you've become..."
"All hail Perseus Jackson, son of Poseidon!"
"You have many allies Perseus, but among them lie your greatest foes."
"You drool when you sleep."
"Perseus Jackson, we offer you the chance to be a god."
"I will find you Perseus, and when I do, everyone you know and love will die."
"Perseus, you can only follow one road through this. Save the wizarding world, or save Annabeth."
Percy tried to block out all of the voices. How did he survive this the first time?

What was he even trying to survive this time?
His mind went blank.
The only think he could think of was the name Annabeth.
Annabeth.
But who even was Annabeth?
Percy replayed the name over and over again.
Annabeth. Annabeth. Annabeth.
Where had he heard that name?
Did he know her?
Annabeth.
Percy's skin felt like it was on fire.
It reminded him of when he drank from the River Phlegethon.
Why would he drink fire?
Percy's skin crawled. Think, Percy, think!
The River Styx. That's where he was.
The Styx doesn't take away memories, so why couldn't he form clear thoughts?
Achilles Heel. That's why he was here.
The Curse of Achilles. He needed it.
Why would he want a curse?
Percy thought back to when he did this with Nico years ago.
How did he do that?
Percy's skin burned.
Was he going to die?
He was, for all intents and purposes, a mortal right now.
"Think of someone or something you're close to, it'll help you from not going crazy."
Percy imagined the person the name Annabeth belonged to.
He envisioned a princess. Princess Annabeth.
He would have chuckled if his body wasn't enduring searing pain.
Percy remembered Nico telling him something about a rope.
Why would he need a rope?
"To tie yourself to the mortal plane, or else you'll be gone forever."
Percy imagined a rope tying him and Annabeth to gods knows where.
But the rope was floating.
What was it tied to?
"You get to choose where you want your Achilles heel to be."
Percy envisioned the rope coming from his ring finger.
The rope tying him and Annabeth together, to whatever the mortal plane is.
~~~
Percy woke up on the banks of the River Styx.
He slowly stood up, and uncapped Riptide.
Very carefully he went to cut his arm.
Nothing happened.
Percy gave a small smile. It worked.
Now, all he had to do was make sure no one cut off his finger.
Percy swore when he realized that now he survived this, Annabeth would kill him.
Percy debated telling her about where his new Achilles heel was.
At that moment, Percy wanted nothing more than to leave the Underworld to face Annabeth's wrath.
Unfortunately, the Fates had other plans when he heard a voice call, "Percy?" from behind him.
His heart twisted hearing it.
Percy didn't know if he wanted to turn around.
He was scared of who, or what, he would see.
"Percy? Is that you?"
Percy took a deep breath and slowly turned around.
What he saw caused him to forget how to breathe.
Bitter
The story of a girl who finds her life is not what she wanted. So she gets another one. Schedule: Story has been completed. Book One is available free on Amazon and EPUB. Books Two to Five are out now. Final Book out soon. Chapters will be around 500-1000 words. This will not change so if you don't like reading very short chapters wait till the end of the week or even end of the month. This many chapters a week isn't easy to pull off so please bear that in mind. This is a VRMMORPG story, but the ones I've read tend to use VR as an excuse to get into a fantasy world and then don't really play up the game aspect other than pulling up a status screen every now and then. To me, MMOs are about more than the fantasy setting. Bugs, exploits, devs who don't understand their own game, OP classes, over the top nerfs, p2w, ridiculous RNG, cash shop fiasco, lockboxes, raging players, broken mechanics, limited bag space, tedious crafting and above all that, a company trying to squeeze money out if its playerbase while pretending they're just in the business of having fun. Of course, then there's the orcs and elves. This story is about finding yourself in a completely immersive fantasy game, but it's also about what a game like that would really be like.
A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.
