《Control (Book 1 of Control Series)》Chapter 45

We can hear the sound of the TV, the surround sound doing it's job, and not for the first time I curse Sebastian on putting our room right above his girl's new playroom. I roll my eyes, while having my sim use the bathroom. I actually don't mind the fact that Sebastian has the girl here. In fact I'd kind of like to get to know her. She looks like the type of person who needs new friends. No offense. Kyle however loathes her. He's always finds a way to try and find a way to make her stay here miserable and if I wasn't here, he would carry them out and trust me his ideas are horrifying. Although, I don't blame him. All his life he's been fighting for his love and attention only to get turned away. There are times where I feel hatred towards Sebastian but, never for his new girl. It isn't her fault but, in Kyle's eyes it is. She's gotten more love and attention in one day than, Kyle has in the 17 years that he's lived. Knowing this I wasn't surprised that Kyle called in our mother Scarlet, I just didn't expect him to go so low and I have to admit it was a little extreme. Both Kyle and I know that our mother doesn't want us and would rather spread her legs for money than to get a job and actually earn it. Even though Sebastian never pays attention to us, he gives us a roof over our heads and assigned us maids that makes sure we're feed and clothed. In exchange we stay out of his way and I've accepted that but, clearly Kyle hasn't. It's starting to get on my nerves.
With a sigh I put down my phone leaving my sims wandering around doing nothing. I look up to see Kyle still pacing. I look down at my watch. 4:15. He started pacing at 3:15. How does he move around for so long? Shrugging I wet my dry lips. "Kyle stop." He doesn't and only gives me a glance telling me that he heard me, he's just ignoring me. "Kyle, you've been pacing for about an hour. Stop it. Now." He must've heard the irritation in my voice because, he stops and raises a brow, his lips twitching. Just like Sebastian. "What's wrong little brother," He asks and I again roll my eyes. "I'm only younger than you by 2 minutes," I say, rolling my eyes... again. "You know little brother one day, when your roll your eyes they're going to just roll out your head," he says, and I don't miss the emphasis he put on the word little. I roll my eyes but, stop mid-roll when Kyle chuckles. "Why don't we look for Brian." I suggest, hoping to distract Kyle for a little longer. He nods and for the first time in a while I see a spark of happiness in his eyes. It's different from the murderous rage that always darkens them.

He opens the door and I get off the bed tucking my phone in the back pocket of my jeans. When we exit the room and enter the hallway and stand there for a few seconds before, Kyle raises a brow. "Well are you going to lead the way?" I shrug. "I would if I knew where he was," I say with a sigh. "Where do you think he is," asks Kyle, and I shrug. I think for a seconds then... lightbulb. "I have an idea where he is," I announce and again we stand there in silence. Kyle lifts his arms up in exasperation before, laughing. "Well then where?" I stay silent for a few minutes for dramatic affect and then whisper "the forbidden hall." Kyle grimaces, his eyes tint with fear. "I don't think we should go," he says, looking at me, skeptical and I don't blame him. The last time we went there Sebastian caught us and man did he beat us senseless. We couldn't sit for weeks and the other injuries didn't heal until a month after that. What really scared me was that the whole time he was beating us he had this glint in his eyes, like he just wanted to murder us then and there. I shiver at the memory. Wouldn't want that to happen again. "No, we wouldn't," says Kyle and I lift a brow. "Did I say that out loud," I ask. He shakes his head. "We're twins remember, we can basically read each other's thoughts." It was my turn to look at him, skeptical. "If so then how didn't you know was my idea was?" He shrugs. "I don't know, I can't exactly know when this freaky-twin-mind-reading-thing works," he says. "Besides don't you think we shouldn't go, well unless you want another fatal beating." I sigh before,... lightbulb. "Well Sebastian's with his girl so we should be able to go unnoticed." I say, smiling. Man am I smart. "Don't let the temporary smartness get to your head little one." I grit my teeth. I'm only younger by 2 minutes. Turning on my heal Kyle and I head towards the forbidden hall.

It only took us a few minutes to get there yet it felt like forever. Every step we took was so light yet, felt so heavy. When we passed the room where Sebastian and his girl toy was and heard nothing, we panicked but, instead of turning back we took the left turn that lead to the forbidden hall. We don't really know why the hall is forbidden. All we know is that Sebastian comes here once a year and if he ever sees us there he'll beat us until we're black and blue out.
I take a deep breath and take a step on the first stair. Nothing. I take another step and feel the hairs on the back of my neck rise, a feeling of unease coiling my stomach. Even before, the beating it scared us to come here. Yet, curiosity always gives us that extra push, just as it did back then. I take another deep breath and quickly go up the rest of the steps, Kyle following close behind. We get to the top of the stairs and I freeze. There, there is the girl, Sebastian's girl. Rosaline. "What are you doing here," Kyle asks. She screams and drops the bowl. It's as if we are all in slow motion, watching the bowl connect with the floor and hearing the glass shatter. I freeze and I feel also Kyle freeze, my eyes widening. To my horror the sound echo's. I'm sure Sebastian heard it. I know because, even though there's a whole hall you can hear everything from here to the movie room. How do you think we got caught in the first place?
Immediately we sprang into action. We rush over to Rosaline and as soon as she parts her lips I slap my hand, rather harshly over them. I turn my head and share a glance at Kyle the silent message clear. Don't let Sebastian know. I again rather harshly push Rosaline to Kyle and start picking up the empty candy wrappers. I don't look to see if they left but, by the cold feeling, filling my body I can tell they Kyle is gone. I always feel warm when he's near. I stuff the candy in my pockets and without thinking grab the pieces of glass. Ouch. I look down to see I gave myself a small cut. Again I begin picking up the pieces of glass. Shit. This time I look down to see a large gash on my hand. I keep picking up the pieces of glass ignoring the injuries. It isn't until, I feel a hand on my shoulder that I freeze. I then relax not thinking to look back. "Kyle you scared me I..." I should've know it wasn't him. I didn't feel warm

Book 1 HomeLessBook 2 ReckLessBook 3 SenseLessBeing homeless isn't the end of the world. At least, that's what Zachary thought when he found himself on the streets after being kicked out at seventeen. It hadn't been his fault. His father had used him as a scapegoat and won his mother over, thinking that her husband was telling the truth about his cheating and that Zachary was the one who was bringing women over, trying to ruin their marriage. He'd argued his side, but once his mother decided on something, her mind would not be changed. That's how he came to live in the alley near the end of 73rd street between the old bakery and a laundromat. It wasn't anything special, but after three years he'd managed to spruce up the place and make it almost-bearable to live in. Over the years he'd made friends with random people he often passed on the streets and did manage to hold down a few random jobs, but like everything else, they came, then went. Now he was left with fifteen dollars and twenty-two cents, a torn blanket, one outfit, and a dream for a better life. He just didn't know that he'd find it somewhere he'd never thought to look... or with someone he never knew he'd want.
