《Forward In Time》Chapter Thirteen

Aang woke with a start. He took in his surroundings and realized he was back at the air temple. He sat up and the memories flooded back. He and Bolin escaped from Wulong Forest. Bolin. He needed to see if he was okay. He slipped out of bed and fell to the ground. He was still a little weak. Aang stood again and used the wall for support as he walked.
He walked outside and covered his eyes from the sudden brightness of the sun. Aang started walking again towards the temple. He heard chatter coming from the dining room and realized it was probably breakfast time. Aang came to the door and saw everyone sitting around the table, including Bolin. He sighed in relief to see he was okay.
Tenzin stopped eating once he noticed Aang there. Everyone else did the same. Katara looked back and instantly stood up and rushed to him.
"I'm so glad you're okay." Katara said as she hugged her boyfriend. When she pulled away, she led him to the table and helped him sit down.
"What happened at Wulong Forest?" Jinora asked
"Jinora!" Pema scolded, "Let him rest first."
"Sorry..."
"No, it's okay." Aang said. He took a deep breath before continuing, "We arrived at Wulong Forest..."
Appa landed on the beach boardering Wulong Forest. Aang, Bolin and Sokka dismounted the bison and looked at the masked men standing at the edge of the forest.
Aang turned to his friends, "You two stay here, I'll go talk to them." Sokka and Bolin nodded before Aang walked over to the men.
"We told you to come alone Avatar." The leader said. His voice sounded familiar, but Aang couldn't place it.
"My friends wouldn't let me." Aang replied, "What do you want?"
"Simple. Control over the world."
"You know I can't let you do that."
The man laughed, "You're still just as naive as when I met you." Aang looked confused so he continued on, "Tell me Avatar, how's your moon spirit friend?"
Realization hit Aang like a train, "Zhao. But you were trapped in the Spirit World."

"And I was! For many years!" Zhao replied, "Until recently I was freed from my prison. I wandered around the Spirit World until I came upon the Tree of Time, and inside the tree I see a fellow prisoner named Vaatu. He helped me find the lion turtle of time." He chuckled, "It was easy to trick the creature."
"You can't trust Vaatu!" Aang said, "He's the spirit of darkness! He'll bring darkness to the world if he's let out!"
"I know... and that's exactly what the Black Lotus wants."
"Why?"
"Because the world needs order. It's filled with people more powerful than others, making the lesser afraid, and the more powerful able to take over. But if there was only one who was more powerful... everyone would be afraid. Everyone would behave."
"What do you want?"
"Vaatu needs a powerful vessel. We want you Aang."
Aang's eyes went wide before some Black Lotus members grabbed him. He struggled against their grip, until a familiar boomerang came and hit one of them in the head, freeing Aang's arm.
Aang waterbended the water from the ocean and water whipped them off of him. As more Black Lotus members came to grab him, Bolin earthbended rocks to knock them back. An Earthbender began fighting Bolin, which surprised everyone.
A Waterbender began attacking Sokka. Thankfully, Sokka was able to hold his own thanks to training with Aang and his sister. He was able to dodge the attacks pretty quickly. If he could keep from getting touched, then the Waterbender wouldn't be able to freeze him.
While the two were distracted, the rest of the Black Lotus members rushed towards Aang. The young Avatar bended the air to push them back. Aang looked over just in time to see Bolin get chi-blocked by one of the men. He moved to help his friend, but heard the sound of fire.
Aang quickly redirected the fire that was thrown at him and sent it back to its owner. Because he was distracted, an Earthbender bended earth around his legs. Aang struggled against the earth and looked around. They were outnumbered. If he could access the Avatar state, they could get out of there.

Aang closed his eyes and concentrated as hard as he could. His tattoos glowed for only a second but then faded. He opened his eyes and airbended the people away from him before earthbending his legs free. He looked around to see Bolin knocked out and Sokka still fighting.
"Aang! Take Bolin and go! I'll hold them off!" Sokka said as he faced off against the Waterbender.
"But-"
"Go!"
Aang looked into the eyes of his best friend that closely resembled his sister's. They both knew one of the three was not going to leave here, and Sokka was not going to let it be Aang or Bolin.
Aang rushed over to Bolin and picked him up. Black Lotus members began surrounding them, so Aang airbended a ball of air around them to keep them safe. The ball floated them over to Appa and they landed in the saddle.
"Go buddy! Yip yip!" Aang called. Appa groaned in response and took off. Aang watched Sokka as they took off. He saw his best friend get captured by the men in masks.
Zhao took off his mask and looked at the Airbender. Aang looked back at him and the Admiral grew an evil grin on his face. Aang's stomach dropped. What was going to happen to Sokka?
Once they were in the air safely and on their way to the air temple, Aang suddenly became aware of the bruises he had acquired during the fight. He also became aware of the amount of exhaustion he felt, but he needed to stay awake to get Bolin to safety.
Everyone looked at Aang in shock. Katara couldn't hold back her tears at the thought of her brother being in the hands of the Black Lotus. Zuko was more angry than shocked and Toph struggled to keep her tears from falling.
"What are we going to do?" Asami asked
"I'm going to get him back." Aang said as he stood. As soon as he was on his feet, another wave of exhaustion hit him. Katara quickly stood and caught him before he could fall.
"You're not doing anything right now." Katara said as she helped him sit again, "You need to get your strength back up."
"But-"
"But nothing! You're too exhausted Aang! If you go after them, they're going to get you too! You need to rest."
Aang looked into her eyes and nodded, "Okay..."
"Let's take look at your wounds." Korra said to Bolin. The two were back in the healing room since Korra offered to look at his bruises. She removed his bandages and saw that he was healing pretty good, "Looks good. After another healing session, they'll be gone."
Bolin got the hint and moved over to the pool of water and laid down in it. The water began to glow as Korra moved the water in a rhythmic pattern to heal his wounds.
"Wow! I feel better already!" Bolin said as a tingling sensation ran through his body. Korra smiled lightly as she continued to heal her friend. Once she was done, Bolin stepped out of the pool of water and stretched, "Thanks Korra!" He noticed the sad look on her face, "Hey what's wrong?"
Korra sighed, "It's just... seeing you look so beat up... I thought you were dead until I saw you breathing."
"Hey, it's going to take a lot more than a weird cult to take me down." Bolin gave her a reassuring smile, "I don't go down easy."
"I know. But the possibility of you dying... not being able to see you everyday and hear you laugh. It just made me realize..." She glanced down. He was another 'almost' that she promised herself wasn't going to happen.
It fell silent for a second, "Realize what?" Bolin asked
Korra looked back at him, "That I have feelings for you..." Bolin looked shocked to hear this and she glanced down again, "But you probably don't anymore considering I broke your-"
Bolin had closed the space between them and pressed his lips against hers. Korra's eyes went wide before they closed as she kissed him back. Her arms wrapped around his neck as his arms went around her waist, pulling each other closer.

Silhouette
WARNING: THIS STORY HAS A SLOW START. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We all grew up hearing stories about heroes and villains, but what would we do if we were to be part of one? One night, a bioweapon escaped from its laboratory in Zalcien, only to die in a dark alley. One night, a young man lent a helping hand, only to die alone in the dark. One night, a deity of death saw two lost souls and offered one a second chance in the other's body. Now a strange creature made of darkness, James has to deal with his new form in a strange new world where superpowers, heroes and villains are commonplace, far away from his home. Watch as he learns how to use his powers, as he meets allies and enemies and how, when facing the paths of heroism and villainy, he chooses a third way somewhere in between. Follow the story of James, a lost Earthling soul, as he becomes Silhouette, the mysterious power in the shadows. Greetings fellow humans. This is my first story on Royal Road and my first long-term project written in English, so I do hope you will have some mercy in your heart when reading. So, as you may have understood, this is a story with super-heroes - which is quite ironic for my first story considering all of the other ones planned are fantasy - and as such will take place in a modern-like setting. Despite dark themes and gory scenes making their way into the story, it is still a super-hero world with the logic that matches, so expect characters to survive nuclear explosions without a scratch and yet to get defeated by a rubber ducky - as well as similar dark humor, thus the comedy part.

The Infinite Labyrinth
(Story complete - Book 1 "Shanghaied", 2 "Shortcuts", 3 "Secrets" and 4 "Sanctions") It is the 19th century, and war smoulders between England and France. For a fortunate few, the strange world of the Infinite Labyrinth offers opportunities, strange descriptors popping in their minds, informing them of growth, and status beyond that of a mere mortal. The materials and power crystal they bring back foster a new age, both military and civilian. Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. But for Jonas, an apprentice leatherworker, his friend Ira, and so many Londoners, the fabled ones that walk the Labyrinth are distant heroes, seen from afar. They fell short when their Potential was measured, and they fill their mundane lives with distant dreams. One man wants to break the stalemate. The Tyrant of the Dominion of France, Napoleon Bonaparte, has a plan. Eighteen years after the world changed, he will force it to change again. And when civilians are caught in the fallout, the unthinkable happens. Six people, unqualified, forbidden to ever enter the Labyrinth, find themselves stranded in a distant zone, forcefully turned into Professionals. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

... And My Skillet
A long time ago, a child was born under the great blue sky. Many a Dwarf grumbled at the auspicious event, tugging furtively at their beards at this ill omen. A year later as the expedition had begun digging into the virgin hills of their new home, the grumbling of the doughty mountain people rose to a disbelieving furor when the yearling passed over the ritual offerings that would determine his lot in life. Instead, the as of yet unnamed child crawled over to a skillet fresh out of the fire and begun picking at the rock bread, unconcerned with the heat. Shouts turned into laughter, frowns lifted into craggy smiles. Upon placing a handful of the bread into his mouth, the infant’s face grew so grim and stony not even the eldest of the present Dwarves could match him. There was a durable ore within this babe, of that the Lore Keeper was sure. Yumly Ironhand was thus named, the beginning of his great tale immortalized on the rune walls of his clan’s history. “It’s pronounced Yoom Lee and no, rock bread isn’t a misnomer.”
