A/N: I fucked up and posted the chapters out of order. SORRY! Those of you who read the previous one got some spoilers. Hope you can forgive me. T__T
...
The week seems to last longer now than it used to. Techno can't explain this; he spends half his time studying or studying. There's no reason he should feel like time is dragging. With finals in just a few weeks and Type still unable to run, Techno only has time to practice and school. But after last weekend, he makes time for Kengkla too. He tells himself it's only to keep the young away and discourage him from showing up at Types apartment or a practice. Kengkla has already shown up twice at his game, and even though he thinks Kengkla only had good intentions, it was distracting in many ways.
So he answers Kengkla's calls, replies to his texts, and sends him updates about his day. But Techno didn't meet up with the other, tells Kengkla he's too busy with studying and practice, not to mention trying to get an internship. It's required to graduate, and Techno must complete it before the end of the long break to secure his degree.
He's reminded of this fact when he's waiting for Type to finish class so he can take the other home, still acting as a chauffeur for the injured athlete. Techno's waiting on a bench outside the classroom, browsing job boards on his phone, shaking his head at all the experience and qualifications the employer wants that he doesn't have. "Shit," He mumbles to himself and closes the window, leaning his head back against the wall.
There's no job he really wants besides being captain. Maybe he could be an assistant coach or a trainer, even a nutrition coach if he really tried. But he knows his grades and experience won't impress anyone. Techno closes his eyes while his mind wanders for a solution when his phone vibrates in his hand. His eyes snap open, and he glances down at the screen. He doesn't recognize the number but answers anyway. "Hello?"
"Good afternoon, is this Techno?" A pleasant female voice asks.
Her tone sounds professional, and Techno feels a bit intimidated. "Uh, yeah, I'm Techno," He manages.
"Great. I am calling on behalf of the athletics department at Chulalongkorn University, and we have a job opening for Assistant Football Coach intern that we think would be a good fit for you. Would you have time to come in for an interview tomorrow afternoon?"
Techno can't believe what he's hearing. She's calling from one of the best universities in the area with a team that's leagues beyond his own team, but he doesn't remember applying for the job or even seeing the position. It's strange, yet he decides against commenting on it, not willing to risk it. "Wow, really," He says lamely then clears his throat. "I mean, yes, I would be happy to come in. Um, what time?"

She doesn't sound affected by his awkwardness at all. "That's great. We have an opening at 3:30 p.m. Would that work?"
He smiles and pumps a fist into the air. "Yes," Techno answers, trying not to sound too excited. "That definitely works."
After she provides a few more details about where the interview will be located and whom to ask for, she hangs up, and Techno cheers, ignoring the staring students in the hallway. Then when he turns to the door nearby, Techno sees Type exiting the classroom with an amused expression. "What's got you so excited?" Type asks, still limping a bit as he walks toward Techno.
Techno's cheeks flush in slight embarrassment and shrugs his shoulders. "Nothing, just got a call from Chulalongkorn U to come and interview for an internship with their team," He brags in a sing-song voice.
Type raises a brow at him. "Really? What the hell did you do?" He asks as if he can't believe Techno could get an interview there. "Do you know someone? You're not that good, Ai' No."
"No, I don't know anyone," Techno argues. "I don't know. They just called me. I don't think I applied? But I'm not sure.' He thinks about it for a minute but dismisses whatever silly idea popped into his head. Whatever, Ai' Type. You're just jealous. I'm that damn good of a captain, even with your crippled ass out."
He expects the swat to his head that comes but didn't expect it to be so hard. "Damn, Ai' Type," Techno grumbles, rubbing the back of his skull where Type hit it. "You still got some strength, huh? I guess Ai' Tharn must be keeping you in shape still."
This gets him a second sway, harder this time. "Shut up, Ai' Type," Type barks, taking a few steps away from Techno. "Let's go to practice, so you can tease the juniors instead."
Techno just laughs again and shakes his hair back from his face as they begin walking down the hall toward the exit. Even though Techno knows Type makes a good point about the interview, Techno doesn't think on it any further, feeling thankful enough that he received the call in the first place. Some things were better left unexplored.
...
Techno decides to call Kengkla when practice is over. He doesn't initiate contact with Kengkla first; in fact, he's pretty sure he's never called or texted first. But it's the first thing he wants to do after a quick shower and goodbye to the team. Kengkla hasn't texted him in a few hours. Last time they talked, Kengkla was studying at home, or at least, that's what he told Techno.
He's heading toward his bike in the parking lot when he dials Kengkla's number, and he almost hangs up. But it's too late because Kengkla picks up after one ring."P'No, you called me," Kengkla sounds shocked when he answers. "I miss you."

Kengkla makes Techno's face heat, and he's thankful the other can't see him. "Uh, yeah," He stutters, staring at the ground while he walks. "I just wanted to tell you I got an interview. I don't know how or why, but it's-"
"That's great," Kengkla cuts him off cheerfully. "P'No, I knew you would get an amazing opportunity. You're just that good."
His words are too sweet. Techno doesn't know what to say. Kengkla's always praising him and was encouraging him throughout the week when Techno said he was studying or looking at jobs. But he really didn't do anything to get this call. "I didn't even apply. Ai' Kla," He chuckles nervously.
There's silence for a second, and Techno thinks he disconnected. But the phone is still connected. "I guess good things come when you least expect them, P'," He says in a cheery tone. It almost makes Techno feel guilty for doubting himself.
When Techno reaches his bike, he grabs his helmet from the seat and sits down on the bike with both his legs hanging off the side. "I guess so," He says. "But I can't believe it's tomorrow. I only have one good suit, and I haven't worn it in years. And I'll have to study for it...I should study for it, right? But shit, I have to study for a test too. Dammit, maybe I should back out."
He keeps rambling until Kengkla laughs. "P'No, it will be okay," Kengkla offers, and his soft and comforting tone sends a shiver down Techno's tone. "I'm sure you will do so good, but if you want, I can come over and help you tonight."
Techno's chest tightens. He's not sure if that's a good idea. Kengkla's "help" doesn't always help, he's finding out. He really needs to explain it to him sometime. But Techno needs this internship, wants to land a job eventually. "Uh, help how?" He asks, just in case.
"I will help you with interview questions. My dad taught me a while ago how he interviews people at the company," Kengkla explains then chuckles. "What did you think I meant, P'No?"
He rolls his eyes, embarrassment making him want to hang up quickly. "Uh, nothing," Techno lies then gets off the bike, only to turn around and climb on the seat properly. He's adjusting the helmet and puts the phone on speakerphone. "I guess you can, but you still have school tomorrow, Ai' Kla. I don't want to be blamed for you being late. Plus, I'm still at Ai' Type's place, so you definitely have to leave," He explains and silently thanks his luck that Type and Tharn will be out. Otherwise, he would have to deal with the awkwardness of bringing a high schooler over to help him prepare for an interview.
He hears Kengkla sigh into the phone. "But I want to drive P'No to the interview," He whines, and Techno tries not to picture his pleading eyes. "P'No, can I please stay the night?"
"Er," Techno drawls, almost giving in, but remembers that he has class before the interview and leaving Kengkla alone at Tharn and Type's house while he skips school sounds like a bad idea. "No, no. You can't, Ai' Kla. I have class before the interview, and you have school."
When there's silence afterward, Techno feels a pang of guilt, and he checks to make sure Kengkla didn't hang up, which he didn't. "Ai' Kla, are you there?" He asks anyway.
"Yes, P'," Kengkla answers quietly but quickly, tone sounding strained and sad.
There's a flash of guilt at the back of Techno's thoughts, and he states up at the sky while his mind fights for a solution. After a moment, he groans surrender, rolls his eyes in irritation before he says "Fine," and tips his head down to get ready to start the engine. "You can drive me to the interview, Ai' Kla, but go to class first. Don't skip any school. I don't want someone to aka me why some damn high schooler is looking for me on campus, okay? "
He can practically hear Kengkla smile into the phone when he says, "Thank you, P'No. I promise I will go to school, and I will pick you up in time for the interview. My boyfriend is so sweet. ."
It's almost like clockwork how fast this sends heat to Techno's face. "Okay, I gotta go. I'll see you at Types place. You remember where it's at right?," Techno tells him, rushing through the words to end the call quickly. "I'll send you his address just in case online."
But Kengkla doesn't let him hang up. "Wait," He calls out to Techno, voice rising high enough that it almost concerns Techno.
"What is it, Ai Kla?"
"I just wanted to say goodnight...and congratulations, P'No," Kengkla purrs. "I can't wait to see you tonight."
Even though Techno should expect Kengkla to say things like this by now, he's still not used to it. "Uh," He manages then swallow enough to speak coherently. "Thanks. I'll see you soon ..."
Techno knows how pathetic he sounds so he quickly hangs up on Kengkla before the other can reply. "What am I going to do with this kid? " He mumbles to himself while he puts his phone away and turns on his bike.
It's not until Techno pulls out of the parking lot that he realizes he's smiling.

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
