Chapter 1: Comforts
The Flying Transit lives up to its reputation of being one of the fastest modes of magical transportation. It has only been ten minutes since Negi and Sage boarded the transit and they were already stepping off in Japan. It stopped at the most populated magical station in Japan. Humans, Hellas, Beastmen, Mages, and Mercenaries all funnel through the station. Some were going to the Magic World and others were just leaving.
The twins slipped through the traffic with practiced ease, exiting the station without bumping into people. They immediately paid for a boat ride to Madora City. The person manning the tickets gave Negi a bizarre look before giving him his ticket. Negi assumed it was his brownish-red eyes or the scar on his cheek. He would have never guessed it was because of his gender.
The boat ride was gentle and the ocean spray felt good. They both thought that the air in Japan was different from their home country.
Three hours later they took their first steps on Mahora. The moment after they stepped on the ferry, Negi found out that the train from Tokyo to Mahora was cheaper. Sage proceeded to drag him through the city. They visited the sights such as the World Tree and the Great Library. The scholars in their soul cause them to stay in the library until the sun disappeared.
“Negi,” Sage called, earning a grunt from her brother. “Let’s get something to eat.”
Negi poked his head through the tower of books surrounding him, most of them having something to do with curses. “Sure. We have been reading since 4.”
They took their time to put away the books, enjoying small discussions on what they have read. Then they headed towards the restaurant district, the lights from the buildings illuminated their path. Sometimes they could catch sight of the mages patrolling the area. Many were flying through the air on brooms and were talking into portable radios.

Sage glanced at another mage then asked Negi, “Do you think we will get a radio like that?”
He shrugged, laziness settling in his bones. “We are teachers, not security. I think we will not have access to their stuff.”
The other redhead huffed but didn't press the question. Even though she loves action, it looked like there wasn't much in this city. The invisible barrier protecting the city and thick security made this place less likely to receive any invaders.
Within moments they reached the restaurant district and chose a small ramen shop. They both order two bowls of miso ramen and enjoyed the authentic taste. The broth was warm and reminded them of home.
Negi ordered another miso ramen then turned to Sage. “Do you think Mom came from Japan? Her food tastes just like this.”
Sage tapped her chin then announced, “Nope! She is a wanderer. Even if she was born here she was always on the move. I think she just learned it on her travels.”
Negi thanked the cook then picked at the egg floating in the broth. “Do you think we could find her family.”
She gave him a melancholy stare then went back to her food. After a moment of silence, she muttered, “They never looked for her. He didn't look for us. I think we should leave it alone.”
They continued to eat in silence then left as swiftly as they came. They continue wandering the city until they picked a nice rooftop to sit on. It gave them a beautiful view of the city and allowed them to see the consistent bustle of city life. They laid there, staring at the stars, enjoying the sky’s beauty. Slowly, they fell asleep under the moonlight.
