《Weapon Attraction》Chapter 1: My Uselessness Intensifies

What does the word ‘Super power’ make you think of? Do you think of the awesome powers like laser-eyes or super strength? Or do you make up your own power? Would you trade your family for a super power? Or maybe…. The power to enter any fictional universe.
I got the most useless power of them all though, I hate my life.Well, too bad you can't choose your power in this story. You have to learn to accept it or just hate yourself for the rest of your life. For me. I used my power to cause a change in the system of Bloodbath and probably not just it’s system. For better or worse?
RING!
The ring of the bell jolted me awake, while the chatter of my fellow classmates slowly dissipated as the chatter’s owners all settled back into their seats slowly.
Finally the last period of the day, then I can finally get back home to do homework…… Just kidding I'm going to procrastinate.
“Alright class, settle down into your seats now and listen up.” Just from that sentence I could tell Mrs. Torchener was already fed up with us, I mean have you ever heard a teacher say settle down now in real life?
Mrs. Torchener was a gangly pole of a human, she had long spider-like arms with veins covering all her wrinkly skin. I sometimes question why she’s still doing this job, anytime she talks I swore I heard her sigh and mutter about her 'candies'? Not a good sign from a teacher anytime. Bright scarlet dresses are always on her body when you see her in class, in school, in public. I have a theory she might be a murderer hiding the blood with her scarlet dresses…. and a ‘candy’ dealer too. A disheveled pile of silver and dull strawberry blonde hair sat on top of her always wrinkled forehead, another thing to notice is that she has razor-sharp fingernails. Like I just think, what's the point of those? Peeling the skin off fruits? If it's that then I'm far more superior cause I can peel it off without sharp fingernails.
“Today you're going to have to take out your booklets and the topic today is…..” As soon as she turned her back to write on the blackboard as always, I drowned her out with the latest gossip the back of the class always provides. There were some things about the government not letting poverty into the free all-you-can-eat feast in the plaza. They disgust me, people always tell us to change and raise awareness but even if awareness was raised. It's useless without people actually changing.
“Look at that loner Jessmin actually concentrating at the lesson, watch this,” The voice of an infamous paper thrower person and someone everyone despised but decided to befriend to not get in trouble, sneered. Holding a piece of crumpled paper in his hand, Halton carefully aimed the piece of paper at the unsuspecting victim and prepared to throw.
This always happens, the government doesn’t care about these things. How can they do these things?
My thoughts were interrupted abruptly when a sharp object hit my head, how? You’ll see.
“What the hell?” I turned around in my seat, but unbeknownst to be I had spoken a bit too loudly for as soon as I had turned Mrs. Torchener had also turned with me,
“Is there something wrong Jrake?” Her head held up high knowing she had put me in the spotlight, which by the way I hated.

Shiitake mushrooms.
“Halton threw a piece of paper at me!” I explained, holding up the piece of crumpled paper as proof. You never know when some evidence is needed. Standing up with me Halton threw a finger at my direction accused,
“I did not! You just crumpled up a piece of paper to make me get in trouble!” That… was actually a very good excuse, nonetheless I un-crumpled the piece of paper and inside it had three large words messily written on it. ‘GO DIE JESSMIN’, as soon as Mrs. Torchener read the message, confusion broke through the whole class including me. Jessmin herself threw me a look which was one I had thought she was incapable of, a look that could kill me and then kill me again in the next life.
Didn’t dumb-brained Halton say something about Jessmin? This is so confusing.
“Jrake Finley and Halton Jones I don’t care what happened but you're both going to stay in class after school.” Judging by her tone she was just pushing her responsibility away, like how I was pushing away mine. Never thought we would have something in common seeing how old she was. Oh wait, she was just very wrinkly.
“But Mrs. Torchenor I have to go on the bus and I have to go to an extracurricular activity!” Protesting, Halton’s tone immediately changed after that command from the old hag in front of us.
Oh, now you play the victim. Well guess what I also have to stay so shut your mouth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Okay class everyone else can leave while Jrake and Halton stay.” Annoyed from the delay I suspected, Ms. Torchener waved her stick- like fingers around the air breaking the awkward tension that had appeared after the mystery. All around me my classmates pushed and packed up all their stuff and scurried away making sure of avoiding me and Halton’s seats.
I’m not stupid you know. I can very clearly see you’re avoiding us.
“Alright, both of you stay and clean the classroom as punishment.” I could clearly see that was supposed to be her job, I was already annoyed about this situation and cleaning up sucked so I shot her a raged induced look I hoped would scare her and went to grab the broom from the banana coloured closet at the back of the classroom. The muscled jerk also stood up, to my astonishment, and grabbed the rag from the closet and started wiping the windows.
I've never really interacted with Halton myself and always kept away from him whenever he appeared, but now that I took a closer look at him I understood why people always tried to befriend him. Halton was a well-toned muscular boy, with a shiny shade of jet black hair styled in a typical squared hair style. Glancing at his eyes I saw a look of intenseness and focused on it that I hadn't noticed he could even muster up, a squared jaw clenched with such force I could his head shaking.
Is that extracurricular activity really that important to him?
Shaking the thought out of my head I swept through the seats tucking in whichever chair was in the way. Observing the walls of the classroom I saw now that there were a lot of artworks and photographs of my class. Throughout the 3 years of being in this middle school I‘ve stayed in the same classroom with the same classmates, this was the first time I’ve actually looked closer at the walls and it’s pictures. There were workbooks from past years stapled onto the walls along with posters and pictures we made in the past years.

I remember Deidamia, she was in my class before she suddenly disappeared, lucky her.
I examined an old photograph on the wall in front of the classroom as I swept, seeing everyone’s innocent smiling faces. The photo was quite old as I reached up and pulled it off the wall and twisting it around I felt the texture and stared at the yellowed back. Printed in a neat tiny font ‘2017 class of 2F’, I could remember how we were all so excited back then and so stress free. Smiling faces stared back at me with clear eyes and big smiles from everyone laughing at one of my sarcastic comments. Making sure no one was watching I stuffed the piece of paper in my coat pocket before continuing sweeping, acting as natural as I could.
“You can both go now.” Using her always annoyed voice, Mrs. Torchener called out. Echoing through the empty classroom, the only other sound was me and the massive jerk that was next to me packing up and running out of the classroom.
That was massively annoying.
The moment we made it out I immediately went in the opposite direction of the butthead and sprinted down the swirling stairs and through the abandoned looking school. The hallways hung with posters for events and pictures of different teachers blurred from my view while the copper lockers clanged against my backpack. Completely forgetting about the incident earlier being the idiot I was, I zoomed past stairs.
I missed my favourite moment of the day!
Snack day’s today!
My pants could probably be heard all over the school, which I didn’t care because my stomach is way more important than my social life. Although because of my distracted state I couldn’t notice the shadows and footsteps that were following me, closer than I would like anyone to normally be.
Almost to the entrance with that amazing collage of student’s awkward faces. Lol.
“Stop.” A low voice that could rival Mufasa’s from Lion King sternly demanded and it was then that I realized who had been behind me, two….. Men in black.
But, I didn’t even see any UFOs and am I getting recruited? Boo, I want my snacks.
“No thanks,” I replied while running as if my life was on the line, which I suppose it probably is, the clatter of heels followed me and I was sure I wasn’t going to make it. So I decided to do the stupidest thing I had ever done, I changed my course and dove towards an empty classroom and hid behind a door. From my point of view this was the drama classroom, fortunately for me there were curtains down all the sides of the classroom and seeing that there was also a bump in one of the curtains my size I had hit the jackpot.
I hope this works like how the movies and books portrayed it or else I will sue them.
The men progressed inside the classroom like robots or cyborgs, maybe they were. I’m gonna call them roborgs now, cause you know, robot cyborgs and stuff and….. Nevermind.
“Come on go farther from the door, come on.” Urging them towards the curtains, why can’t they just do what I say. Farther and farther they went from the door, just as they were pulling the curtains open I dashed towards the hallway and slammed the door closed. Thinking I escaped? Aha…. No.
Just as I relaxed towards the doors I noticed a crowd of the identical men moving towards me, and I just.. I think I died inside. My head kept screaming at me to get up while my lungs rivalled it with more air! So listening to my head I jumped up and ran away breaking through the crowd of black suited men. This time I could hear the pounds of leather shoes chasing mine, I swear my heart was probably pounding as fast as I was running. Which was fast…. I think.
I am now really glad I am in the running club now. I guess that saying where the runner always survives is true.
Without looking I rounded a corner to the playground and dove into a bush hoping not to be noticed. The pricks and thorns of branches and leaves scratched at my bare legs and neck while I tried to move into a position that would allow me to escape just in case they found me.
“Search the area, we have to deliver him safely back to the agency without any damages on him,” A robotic voice hollered out followed by rustelling of nearby bushes, closer than I thought they were.
Undamaged? That’s the most anyone’s ever cared about me, but I still don’t trust you.
As I felt around me for a weapon I touched a long thorn ridden object.
Perfect.
Breaking out from the bush I felt the branches claw at my strained legs as I drew out my weapon; a stick. I had no other idea okay? Confused, the men readied into, what I think, was a defensive stance. I, myself, also stood in a wonky defensive stance, I could literally feel their snickers in my skin as I nearly poked my eyes out with it attempting to get a good grip.
“Back off I have a stick and it’s really pointy!” Attempt 1 at threatening the men.
“We’re not going to hurt you.” Attempt 1 failed.
“I have a black belt in karate!” Attempt 2 lying.
“No you don’t.” Attempt 2 failed.
“How do you know that.”
“That’s because we have data about you that we’ve collected over the years.”
Are they the FBI? No way, I’m missing Snack day!
I finally reached a conclusion to run away as soon as they moved closer to me, counting down slowly.
3..
2…
1!
And I bolted away flinging the stick behind in hopes of at least nailing one of them I ran like I’ve never ran before, taking a running leap down the entrance stairs before…. A stinging feeling travelled down my spine spreading across my limbs and skull numbness ensuing right after the sting, feeling of my limbs fading away as quick as Allyson Felix. Worse of all before consciousness seeped into me I saw the look of pity in the suited men’s faces.
“This kid threw his stick yet it boomeranged right back at him like he was a magnet, sad.”
May my name be engraved in my favorite cheeto.
As those thoughts occurred in my head awareness faded with it.
Now you might think that I was going to be locked up somewhere right? Oh no, instead I woke up in a bedroom…. Yeah.
Shaking from the incident I felt a pain in my head, feeling the spot I felt a soft cotton like fabric stuck to that spot.
Did I get kidnapped? But why would they bandage me, maybe they really are men in black.
I pushed myself up from the walls, the texture feeling sandy, cautiously I crept towards the door nudging it lightly I found it was unlocked. And I went out.
Soon I found myself looking into a large window opening into a gym-like scenery, with people all over the places with weapons and more. The stranger thing was all the rooms were empty.
Why would they need this much training equipment? Kinda looks like a gym.
I quietly stalked down the metallic corridor passing many different rooms including some with training equipment, old and new fashioned weapons including some I never knew even existed, science set ups and obstacle courses. The only light source shining down on me sent shivers down my spine.
At last I arrived at a pair of lustrous double doors bolted to the similar looking walls. When I pushed at the doors nothing budged and when I tried harder guess what? It didn’t move either. What did you expect?
Trying harder, unbeknownst to me someone else was opening the doors on the other side and when they did I fell into a person.

Interface
Welcome to the World-City of Thousel, the sixth iteration of life on the planet. These are the recordings of the people of Thousel. Thousel is believed to be the second longest iteration of life, and the overall most prosperous compared to what we know about the past five iterations. Medicine and technology have all progressed abundantly, and the world itself has been turned into one great city, governed and managed by the Governmental-Company Alliance, or the GCA.These particular recordings concern the discovery of a peculiar machine. When two very different people find themselves bound by the fate of one mysterious bot, life in the World-City begins to change… Interface is a cyberpunk webnovel set in an ecumenopolis world where people evolved with electro-sensory abilities. These senses shape the face of modern technology and life in a world where the three largest corporations run what has effectively become the government. Each of these three companies control various aspects of life in the city, and they all constantly vie for domain and power over one another. The world stands at the precipice of biological, technological, and historical breakthrough. After decades of study into microbiology, archaeology, and geology, it has been discovered that sentient life has lived on the planet multiple times over. These past peoples are referred to as the “prior iterations of life,” and it is believed that five great civilizations were constructed before the rise of the modern world. No one can be sure for certain what caused these peoples’ extinction long ago, and the theories range from simply dying off over time to massive tectonic fractures in the face of the planet. Advanced technology, far more complicated than anything the people possess today, has been uncovered in multiple locations. This has lead scholars to speculate on exactly how long each iteration of life survived and how far they progressed as a society. None of the companies have been able to find a way to make this ancient technology work for their own profit. It is as though they are each missing the final key needed to unlock these centuries old secrets. What could this knowledge reveal about the nature of life across every iteration? What power could it give to the one who wields it?Far from the investigation into the origin of life, two kids unlock a new mystery – one that ties their fates to the discovery of an old, mysterious robot. Suddenly, eyes begin to turn towards them as life in the city of Thousel changes wherever they go…
