《Word Wise》Chapter 3 Listening Well

The Arch Mage looked over all of them. The room was somber. Froyd held a spoon filled with stew near his mouth and just stared at him. Charlene had turned pale, and John had raised an eyebrow.
"Remember, there are criminal organizations in Lione that will hunt you, because of your uniqueness." He raised his voice. "You can leave now, to avoid those criminal organizations, or choose to stay, and hone your skills as mages, until you are capable of defending yourselves."
"Make your decision." He sat, and started on his food. There were numerous scenes unfolding around them. Most of the people involved were familiar to Froyd, either being classmate or people he had seen around August. Boyfriends, and girlfriends having discussions, friends parting ways, and family members leaving.
Charlene had started to get even more fidgety beside him. She then moved her leg from beneath the table to leave. She looked to Froyd with a sad expression, and talked to the girl on her right, Krissy. Froyd didn't listen in. They were close, but no one had ever been able to influence his cousin's freespirit, and he'd always liked that about her.
The soup was well seasoned, and there was just enough sugar in the bread that he could taste it. By the time he and John had finished dinner, sixteen of the thirty prospects had left the room. The fourteen remaining moved to the center table.
One of the girls, Danisha Curtis, wore a scowl. "Mr Dorsette, you did not have to say it like that."
"Little girl." He eyed her, with ridicule. "I've been here longer, I can assure you that I've saved a few lives today. Danisha? You may not like what I have to say, but you do need to hear it."

Danisha, came from Narri, Liones capital. Despite her coming from one of Nairri's more crime infested areas, she had been a straight A student, and she was gifted enough with magic to join the Maypole Ceremony. She was short and dark, but pretty.
"You know..."
"You should be quiet." Froyd stopped her, before she could continue. They'd known each other for a while. Dannisha had been a problem for their school's faculty, since she simply didn't respect age, or location.
Danisha didn't respond. She held onto her cup tightly. Froyd had caught on to the situation, and waited, but she never threw it.
A bomb sounded. The ship was made of metal, the sound reverberated. The atennas atop the ship, strummed in wind like stings. Inside, everyone felt their bones, and organs shake, and fell to the floor.
Froyd saw as Mr Dorsette removed his cuffed hand from the table. He held stew in the other hand, while everyone else rolled in theirs. He placed it down. "You children are ungrateful, rude, and belittling. I will have my respect!" He looked at them all. "Hurry up, and shake it off. I have to warn you about something dangerous, now."
