Moonlight and darkness bent dancing around her, surrounding her in a hazy metallic shimmer "Aerial!" the wind whispered brushing against her soft skin. "Where am I" she screamed her voice echoing in hollow clasps " You are in the forest of the sacred mountain" a husky voice retorted among the cage of flowers.
Her accessing gaze took in her surrounding, a deep green carpet of trees hugging each other, running up high with spores engulfing their barks. Trees, tall massive trees encircling the forest with woody vines that serve as ladders for animals to move about, the sun glisten off the silver surface of the shallow pond, a chilly breeze stir fabricating sheets of small waves affecting a small tulip leaf to float which was also a sail for the ants.
" I am Orlenes, we do not have much time so no questions" the shadow's voice rang chiming in her thoughts." That necklace you are wearing hold's great power, It was your mothers wasn't it?" he began pointing at the silver coin, warmed by her skin, with a circle of cuneiform symbols surrounding a star with two arrows hanging loosely around her neck.
"Wait-" she clashed but was cut off badly," I said no questions!" the shadow demanded
" But you were the one who questioned!" she interwinds " Fine! I have no time! you shall wake up in another few mins!" he screamed frustrated "Is she all right?" faint whisper's hustled questions curiously "Meet me at the lake of the forest be safe!" he yelled as the trees faded " I forgot to tell yo-.." but he wasn't able to finish off his sentence as she was engulfed in darkness.
" She'll be fine sir, Pls don't disturb the patient" a deep voice answered. " How in the Amelia shall I calm down? She saved my life! aren't you supposed to check on her?" someone countered. She gasped for breath flickering her eyes open. The ordure of disinfectant, disease, medicine, & death concealed the room, hospital," Oh my Amelia! your safe" Prince Laen stated tracing her hand with his thumb.

" Orlenes!- go, we must go to the sacred forest! I want to know my powers" she screamed hurriedly posturing her self upright before extracting the odd wires fixed among her skin which lead to an electronic machine sitting calmly on a cart.

The bushes swished brushing against each other filled with sweetness, rabbits hopped; their purely white fur now dark brown, broken branches of trees cracked as they walked through the vines of trees, poisonous fruits glistened creating soft grumbles leave their stomachs. She drew in the sent of blossomed flowers before exhaling and sighing. " Shh.." she whispered placing her finger onto her lips indicating Lean to be silent. Soft silent chattering filled the air " Fairies" she mumbled, her gaze shifted on to his clothing, his clothes torn, and his boots were covered in mud. " This way!" she directed.
Droplets of water sang glistening the crystal water" Late! very late!" Orlenes yelled frustrated " Anyway glad you bought Prince Laen!" he mumbled taking tiny steps towards the light, the duo peeped curiously, there stood an old man running his hand through his grey long beard, his face wrinkled. "I want you two to tie your hands together and Aerial place your hand among mine," he uttered, placing his hand forth. Red-colored their cheeks as they intertwined their hands.
Scene 01
Tears, Tears coursed down her cheeks, she let out a muffled whimper, hands swiping away tears, throat unclogging in a cough." Mother! she chant " Mother why? why did you leave me?" she moaned running through the woods. A burning sensation engulfed her body boiling and mixing her blood, she let out a piercing scream abruptly flashing her eyes open but instead of a rim of darker blue surrounding her irises, they were rimmed by a thick band of iridescent silver.

Scene 02
The battle, the peasants fighting for vengeance while guards defended the Royals. Eyes closed, hair blowing in vibrant waves she gasped moaning in pain. Lightning screamed crackling, wind rustled violently. Tears left coursing down her cheeks. Anger bubbled in her stomach, sobbing softly memories took over her hazel eyes. "No!" she retorted "No! no no no!" she yowled sniffling. Eyes flung open she screamed light blinding her vision.
A scream echoed power radiating "No!!!!!!!!!!" she screamed hugging herself feeling the loss of her spirit. The world stopped deathly silent, the battle abruptly halted the fighting, the soldiers clanking armor-plated swords paused, the rain stopped dripping midair before she fell bumping on the floor, dead.
"Aerial!" was the last words she heard before drifting off to a deep slumber sleep which can never be awoken.
She gasped for breath panting placing her hands in her knees" The first scene was you, it was the day the power of the forest, was gifted to you and the second was the battle when the villagers found out that the true Queen of Aria, Selene, practiced dark magic. You stopped the fight but you consumed all your power to stop the battle so your mother sacrificed herself to save yours, she had to leave you Aerial, everything was a lie " Orlenes retorted calmly.
" What is her power from birth?" Laen questioned " Weather, the weather is her power. It hasn't shown out yet for the magic she holds against her veins, " he answered. " you must learn to control it or you shall die" he uttered to Aerial concern gripping his voice.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

A Hunt Upon Wings of Shadows
Lianne has spent the last few years of her life as a nomadic monster-hunter, aimlessly taking jobs and disappearing without a trace. Her innately high ether reserves are the only thing that’s keeping her alive. After a painful yet successful contract, she receives an offer to hunt a peculiar beast from a mysterious man who- much to her dismay- pairs her with a man by the name of Sirius, a skilled swordsman with too much empathy to give out. At the same time, inside the impossibly tall walls of the divine city, a group of soldiers including a naive yet powerful girl by the name of Felicia, an exemplar soldier named Raynauld, and a scarred and aloof woman named Maria prepare to head out on a mission to deliver justice to a deserter who is reported to be in a large town far outside the lush interior of the city. However, the two groups will find that their paths will intertwine, and painful memories will push them against each other at every turn, with new monsters emerging from the shadows to pick each of them apart piece by piece. ************************** Alright, so this is the first book I've posted here, and I've been sitting on this idea for a long while. I'm open to any pieces of criticism, and I would be glad to receive tips and advice. Enjoy! Normally, new chapters come out Saturday nights, sometimes double uploads if there's a short chapter or if I feel like it. That's subject to change if I run out of the current backlog. Second note, this is the first draft, and some things (like a few characters) are going to be cut. It's still going to be the same storyline, but keep that in mind.
