《adVerse Wishes》Chapter Thirteen: Searching For Souls

“Did you see everything?” I asked.
Marylyn nodded shakily. Apparently actually experiencing a horrifying experience can scar you just as much as watching one. We sat there for a while, taking deep breaths. Assuring ourselves that everything would soon be over. How did we end up in such a dark place? Two 13-year-old girls, innocent, loved (or once loved), out of all people ended up in the hands of a psycho killer? Only a few months ago I had nothing to do with this terrifying situation, and now I feel like I am trapped in a horror movie. I dragged Marylyn into this too! After all, she has done for me...After a while of just sitting there, I looked up at the clock, ticking till our deaths. 3 hours left.
“Marylyn,” I said, “I know we feel hopeless right now, but we need to try at least to defeat Death.” I reached my hand out to hers. “Let's go try and find the real Grandpa.”
Marylyn nodded again, took my hand, and through all this malicious fear, smiled. I surprised myself and smiled back. I felt courage rise back up through the shallows of my stomach like me, and she walked through the darkness, holding hands, searching for any signs of grandpa. I held her hand tight, promising never to let go. We wouldn’t step down, staying together, no matter what.
“Watch out Death,” I whispered as we crossed another corner with no other signs of people. Our each other's smiles were our flashlights in the darkness. Our company with each other is what brought us to search when our hearts were beating like hummingbirds. Our bond brought us to search every corner for an hour.
When that hour passed, through the silence, Marylyn said, “I don’t know Rose, I don’t think they are here.”
I sighed, “I know.”
“Well,” Marylyn said, “what is your next idea? We don’t have much time.”
“I thought Grandpa could help us, but he doesn’t seem to be here. We are going to have to help ourselves.”
“So the question is how do we destroy Death, correct?” Marylyn asked.
“Yes,” I answered.
“Couldn’t we just try to kill him?” Marylyn whispered.

Vendor of Spirits
A warlock once made a pact with the Powers Above. He snuck in a clause that resurrected him whenever he died, with all his memories intact. He lived for thousands of years in a hundred different bodies, changing the world into a dystopian regime where he could freely pursue his passions: alcohol, television and ducks. This made the Powers Above very angry, so they erased his memories and reincarnated him as a simple barmaid in a sleepy village where she could do no harm. I don’t know any of this, of course. I just find it very annoying that she’s chosen me to tag along with.

Rise of the Business [Class]
'Rise of the Business [Class]' is a story about a world where humanity ended up fleeing through space, after suffering several great disasters at home. On arrival we crash-landed and were soon attacked by magic wielding civilizations who learned how to deal with our weaponry with a speed that belied their seemingly simplistic nature. We were lost. But eventually we survived by abandoning technology and adapting. But this tale takes place thousands of years later, after humanity has had time to rise and falter more than once. It tells of a time where we adapted too much, focusing only on combat and magic and learning to rely on the [System] that our ancestors built in order to compete and survive on this hostile planet with the others. This is a story about our final chance during a time when all of humanity is under siege again, where we struggled to adapt too late and ultimately had to learn how to summon a collection of people from Earth through time and space to come help - but not to the 'besieged time' but back a couple of hundred years - before it went too far down the wrong path, so they can hopefully change things enough to prevent a return to that timeline. Follow Livia as she is ripped from her favorite library and end up getting lucky, or unlucky? On her very first day on the Elderwood continent. While a trio of native lads excitedly leave home to find adventure, oblivious to how very soon they might end up entangled in the fate of the world. But the question that remains to be answered, that this first leg of the journey aims to find out; is what can a LitRPG bookworm like Livia do if called on to change humanity and prepare us all for the future, all before her 21st birthday? Find out soon, as we are finishing up book 1 in the coming two weeks. Cheers for reading this far, have a biscuit!

Ballet
Just a little bit about ballet. This story follows my life and my meager ballet career. It's a bit random and some info about ballet from my perspective. If you would like for me to write a part about something in particular, just comment and I will. Enjoy! Thanks to @girl_who_reads for designing my cover, it's so awesome!! ~Mia
