Howdy cowboys and cowgirls!
For this chapter we’ll be studyin one of the roughest, toughest, and most bamboozlin class in any reality….THE GUNSLINGER!!
Now you may be thinking that you already know what a gunslinger is. A dude who uses magic to shoot bullets from a gun made for the sole purpose of shooting metal out of one end. Well, you couldn’t be any closer actually.
These dudes literally use guns to shoot stuff. They do have increased affinity with the Kwijum because of some brief history between the rave and the gunslinger class. Gunslingers also have increased proficiency with any ranged weapon. That may have you thinking “If their gunslingers and they have affinity for any range weapon, why not just use a laser gun?”
Yea yea yea. Good question…….PSYCHE. The reason gunslingers use guns is because of “The Code”.
“The Code” is the soul contract between the gunslinger and it’s soul gun. I know I’m throwin a lot of things at ya even though you may not even know what they are. I’ll explain it like this, soul guns are souls morphed into the shape of a gun and the contract makes sure that the gunslinger stays true it’s soul gun/soul.
Each “Code” has different requirements like for example, on Earth O there is a man who wrote a story called “The Darkest Tower”. The author somehow wrote one of the “Codes” of a gunslinger. If I remember correctly it went like:
“I do not aim with my hand; he who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I aim with my eye.
I do not shoot with my hand; he who shoots with his hand has forgotten the face of his father.
I shoot with my mind.
I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father.
I kill with my heart.”
I honestly forgot about it cause ya know...IM NOT A FUCKIN GUNSLINGER.

Back to the topic.
In the story, the author had the “Code” be like a mantra or somethin but in actuality that mantra is a way for the soul gun to bind with the users body and increase the bodies senses. It’s a good mantra if you ignore all the bad sides. The author didn’t put in the part of how if you go against this “Code” then your soul will shatter and you’ll cease to exist. Yea, pretty crazy right.
That’s why if your a gunslinger I recommend you try to lessen the requirements by meditating. When meditating the mind canals increase and that allows for the soul to travel throughout your body and get to know what it’s gonna be working with. The more your soul feels comfortably with your body then it’ll make a easier “Code”. For example, on Uranus V72e-888-LJ there’s a gunslinger that has a “Code” that goes like this:
“Trusting the soul as is trusting the body and mind.”
Literally there fucking was to it.
To simplify it, just trust your gut. It’s literally just trusting your gut. I later learned that the backfire of the “Code” was that if the user doesn’t trust their gut then he’ll dream about the ways he dies in different realities. Yea, dude literally sees himself die in different realities if he doesn’t trust his gut…...FUCKING OVERPOWERED!!
Ah yea sorry forgot. I’m supposed to be informing you.
So, gunslingers are seen as something similar to paladins with churches because they have to follow something or else they’ll die.
In almost every reality I’ve been to, I’ve never seen any duplicate “Codes”. 2 gunslingers may have the same ability but their “Code” will be worded completely differently. For example, one gunslingers “Code” could be “Praise the source for it is never ending” which means pray to a god once a day. While another hunter with the exact same ability could have a “Code” that says “Strive to feed the never ending abyss so that one day it can rain vengeance down upon its foes” which means that you’ll have to kill a lot of people every day just to stay alive.

No “Code” is exactly alike but it may give the same powers. Some people may believe that gunslingers might be a rare class because of how hard a “Code” might be but the weird thing is that there are thousands of realities full of gunslingers that all work under the guild “High Noon” which is controlled by the legendary Billy The Kid.
High Noon is a guild that's been around for a couple billion millenia. Billy The Kid took over after he killed the previous corrupt guild master ਵਿਲੀਅਮ ਜੋਨਜ਼.
I’ve met Billy before and I’ll say this. THAT KID COULD TAKE OUT A REALITY FULL OF ABYSSALS. Like he may have a questionable character but his skills are in the top 10 gunslingers to ever be thought of.
Not many people know this but Imma spoil it now. Billy The Kid doesn’t have a “Code”. Yea...YEAH!!!
That's what I thought too. “Wait….what? WHAT?!!!”
Billy The Kid actually has no “Code” and I’ll tell you why on his chapter.
Tehehe, I know “Only dicks give cliff hangers” but if I have to say, this one is too good to be included with any old gunslinger.
Ah back to topic.
High Noon takes request for certain types of jobs. They need to find a specific gunslinger for that job so it doesn’t make em die from breaking their “Code”. Then, they have to teleport that gunslinger across space and time. Then, that gunslinger has to make sure they got the right place. Then, they find the requester and get clarification on the mission. There's a long and tedious fucking process and I hate it.
Why can’t people just ask to kill a person then hire an assassin?
Yea yea back to the topic.
Oh yea, time to blow your mind.
Guess what race most gunslingers are…….WRONG!!!
They’re mainly……...HUMANS OR DEMONS, CRAZY RIGHT!!??
That may seem likely for humans but demons was a whole surprise even for me. I never really expected to see a demon gunslinger mainly because THEY DON’T HAVE SOULS. Yea, demons don’t have souls because they’re manifestations of pure mana. These dudes cease to exist if they go into places without mana. Crazy weird.
Studies show that any race can get the gunslinger class but demons and humans are more than likely to get them. It may be from all the universes where most legends consist of demons and humans battling each other with pistol. No one truly knows but there are scientific communities that believe the gunslinger class only follows the beings similar to the first gunslinger, Ben Thompson.
Ben Thompson was a human that was originally from a reality that didn’t publicly announce the existence of magic. Somehow, Ben found sent to a different reality I guess.
There are some gunslingers believe that the “Code” came from Ben Thompson because he was originally a lawman. But that must call into the belief that a system can make any requirements it wants. None of it makes sense but I’m always open to any new ideas.
Danger Level: 6 stars
Chance for survival: 40%
Chance for encounter: Depends on when/where you're at
What to do if you encounter one:
Always call him Mr. [Insert name]
Never EVER touch the vest
Ask if you can buy them a drink
RUN IF THEY'RE WEARING A BLACK AND RED PENDANT OF A WOLF
Tip. When talking to a gunslinger from Vazrum, always look into their eyes when you talk to them or else they'll see it as a sign of disrespect. They challenge anyone to a duel if they think their disrespectful.

Rimward Bound
Every citizen of the sky-cities of His Majesty's Star-Empire knows that a ship, both sky- and star-, is more then just a few bits of metal. It is the grand sum of it's hull and the crew that sail it. 'Hulls of battle-steel and men to match!' That's what the Navy's recruitment poster's claim at least. Every sailor knows that there is one more component that the city-bound folk ignore at their own peril: the soul of the ship. That it takes both man and hull to make a true ship, and that neither alone serve well or for long. In 8225 Lord Jeffrye Saltonstall the Fourth, Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps, demands semi-automated ships to 'reduce the loss of life among our brave crews', manages to convince the other politicians and bureaucrats to fund them, and gets the Office of Ship Construction to sign off on the ships as structurally sound. Dockyard workers shake their heads at the ships, muttering that they are cursed from birth, even as construction drags on. In 8230 the Explorer, first of her class, is launched. She sets out in 8233 to great fanfare on a trip expected to last six months. Neither she nor her twelve-person crew is ever heard from again. By 8235, the remaining seven Explorers are are commissioned. Lord Saltonstall managed to find crews for six of them but at the cost of mass resignations. The Night Horse, last of the Explorer class, sat in reserve as her sister-ships served well enough despite ill luck and misfortune. The Office of Ship Construction quietly issues notice that no more semi-automated ships are to be built and that all active Semi-automated ships are to be quietly retired and broken up for scrap over the next ten years. The Night Horse, sitting in reserve, is missed due to bureaucratic oversight. In 8250 Lord Ayland Wynstryngham the Eighth assumes the office of Political Lord of the Surveyor's Corps. His first act is to issue notice that no ship is to be without crew nor sit in dock or reserve for longer then required for maintenance and upkeep. The Night Horse, all but forgotten, is quietly brought back into active service. Recruiting a crew for her proves another matter entirely. What poor or desperate fool would willingly sign on to crew, much less command, a cursed ship and spend months or years in deep space? Well, you would, of course. Where else is a kid from the gutters going to find that kind of freedom in the service of His Majesty? A [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] 2021.
