《Hiroto The Cursed Phoenix Mage》Chapter 5: My Encounter With The Phoenix

"Hiroto can you get some fire wood," Hiroyuki asked. "Yes sir."
I went off to get some fire wood. While picking up wood I was lost in thought.
"Now that I think about it, it's been a month since Hiroyuki started training me," I thought. "It seems my two week break starts tomorrow."
"Hiroyuki was right. He was indeed able to increase my one minute timer. Although it only increased by ten seconds it's better then nothing," I further added.
"He also mentioned that the exam has three sections. The first section is to see your mana pool/reserves. The second section is to test how powerful your magic is for long and short distances. The final section is a practical exam and you have to fight someone that is also apart of the test. This is to test how much experience they have with fighting," I explained to myself.
"I can tell I'm lonely if I'm just talking to myself," I said sighing.
"I mean I have Hiroyuki but there's only so much we can talk about. Maybe I can ask him about his past with my father and mother," I continued.
"Whatever, I need to get this wood back to Hiroyuki," I concluded.
When I was about to walk back to the campsite I felt something drop on my right shoulder. I could tell it was sticky and disgusting my just feeling it. upon looking towards the right it was saliva. I suddenly felt a breath on my neck. When I turned my head around to see what was behind me it was a low ranking demon beast.
In the world of magic we gave demon beast different titles for there power. there are four ranks we gave them. First is low ranking demons beasts, middle ranking demon beast, high ranking demon beast, and demon god. When I saw it's red bright eyes ready to kill I was surprisingly calm. When I saw the beast lift up it's arm and was going to attack I said a few words out loud.
"Dammit, what a pain in my ass."
The demon beast hit me square in the back launching me backwards. I created a fire sword and impaled it in the ground to catch my footing.
"That was a hard blow," I told myself. "Judging by the fact that it looks like a bear that means they use earth magic."
"Okay I just need to be wary of my surroundings," I said.
The beast started rushing towards me and I did the same. I slid between its legs and kicked him in the kneepit (The area behind the knee) making him fall on his knees. I then punched the demon beast in the back making him move forward. When it caught it's footing I was already there. I kicked the beast in the chin making it fly upwards. I then released a trap I made and it launched my fire sword towards its blind spot.

"Yes, that should do it," I told myself.
"Low ranking demon beasts has no intelligence so they just go on a rampage when they fight. So attacking there blind spot is the best spot to kill a low ranking demon beast, or at least that is what Hiroyuki told me," I explained to myself.
When I thought it was going to end I couldn't be more wrong. The beast turned around, grabbed the sword, and smashed it to pieces.
"What, that's impossible, they're not supposed to have intelligence," I said loudly.
The demon beast then launched a earth sword towards my blind spot.
"It's even adapting. Don't tell me it's breaking through," I stated.
Similar to humans the demon beast can also become stronger. It's not like they are decided what rank they are when they are born. It can also train to become stronger. When a human or a demon beast becomes stronger or "rank up" that means they're breaking through.
"Dammit, I don't think I'll be able to handle a middle ranking demon beast," I pointed out.
The demon beast started to glow and then let out a huge roar. The roar blew away some trees near him and I had to put up my arms to block the pressure. It has completed his break through and is now a middle ranking demon beast.
"This fight just got several times harder," I stated.
I blinked once and the beast was in front of me already. The beast coated it's arm in earth magic and went to attack me. I put my arms in an X formation to block the attack. That wasn't enough to neutralize the attack and I was sent flying. I broke a few trees before finally catching my footing. I launched a long range attack and the beast did the same. This caused a smoke screen and I used that to create some distance between us both. While running I set up two traps and kept on launching long range attacks. The beast was getting mad and didn't even try to block the attacks. He just barged right through them without caring about the damage done to him. The beast was just starting and started using his full speed. In my eyes it looked like it disappeared.
"Where did he go," I yelled.
The demon beast was behind me and was going to stab me with an attack.
"I can't block that," I said to myself.
The beast was aiming for my heart. I shifted my body a little and he stabbed me through the shoulder. I got out of his grasp and tried to attack him with my fire sword. However, it did no damage and I was standing there stunned. Not wasting any time the beast kicked me in the chest. While trying to catch my footing it kicked me in the stomach making me fly backwards even more. I crashed into a huge tree that stopped the momentum. My body hurt so much I couldn't really think straight. The beast was making it's way towards me and out of desperation I launched one of my attacks towards it. I missed big time and the attack was probably only going to nip his neck however, the beast used both arms to protect it's neck.

"Huh, why would he be scared of a flimsy attack like that," I asked myself.
"Let's just test out this theory I have," I stated.
I launched my final trap straight towards the back of his neck and the demon beast even coated his arms in earth magic to deflect my attack. My sword got stuck in a branch above the demon beast.
"It's acting weird towards the back of its neck. Could that be his weakness," I questioned myself.
"I only have fifteen seconds left to use my magic. I have nothing to lose. I need to use the technique Hiroyuki taught me," I stated.
I waited until the beast attack was inches from connecting to me. At the very last second I teleported to my sword. The technique allows me to teleport to anywhere I place my mana. However, doing this drains my mana to quickly. I pulled it out of the tree and came clashing down the the demon beasts head. I had two seconds left to finish this battle and I wasn't going to let this chance slip. My eyes started glowing orange then back to my black eyes over and over again. My body was being covered in fire magic to the point where fire magic was coming out of my mouth. I slightly closed my lips making the fire come out on just one side. I made contact with the back of his neck and made a clean cut, slicing off the demon beasts head. I landed safely on the floor standing there with my head facing the ground. The blood from the demon beast started to spray all over me but I was to exhausted to care. I looked towards the demon beast head that was laying there with my eyes fully orange. I then passed out from having almost no mana left inside my body.
"So this is it huh," I stated.
"Sorry Hiroyuki, it seems I won't be there to take the exams like you wanted," I said in a weak voice.
In the sky several miles away from me.
"Get that woman that betrayed us," a demon beast yelled.
`"She needs to die right here right now," another demon yelled.
"I need to escape from them," the woman demon beast stated.
The demon beast noticed a dead middle ranked beast and me lying right next to it. She created a smoke screen to confuse her pursuers. I was barely even alive let alone conscious. However, I couldn't forget the sight of the demon beast. She then went flying towards me and started talking.
"You're in a sorry state," she said.
"Oh really? I didn't notice," I said with sarcasm.
"you're going to die at this rate," she continued. "I could say the same to you."
"How about a contract," she proposed.
"I'm not fifteen yet," I stated.
"Don't worry I can tell that I'm one hundred percent compatible with you," she pointed out.
"How can a demon beast talk also, how do you look human" I questioned.
"That doesn't matter, do you want to make a contract or not," she asked again. "Yeah sure."
"Okay then let's begin," she said happy.
She grabbed me by the collar and kissed me. I was to tired to care and she said a few words before I officially became her vessel.
"My name is Bedelia and I'm a Phoenix," Bedelia said before entering my body.
I woke up the next morning and rushed to Hiroyuki. I got a good scolding from him but I didn't tell him anything about Bedelia because I myself can't figure out of it's a dream or not. For my two week break I just slept because I was absolutely exhausted. It was the day of the exam and I could tell something was different with me.
"Is this everyone that wants to take the transfer exam," the announcer yelled.
"yes," we all yelled back.
"Okay, let the exam begin," the announcer yelled.

The Humble Life of a Skill Trainer
For Joshua Still, Skills were the lifeblood of his business. He wanted to understand them, collect many of them, and teach a few of them. Which was a problem because while his profession of a Skill Trainer was perfectly legal, it was frowned upon by most of the kingdom. After all, it wouldn't do for a non-tailor to teach Tailoring. Or, so says the Tailors Guild. The same could be said by the Blacksmiths, the Bakers, the Butchers, the Candlestick Makers, the Mages, and every other Guild with enough money and clout to complain. But still, Skill Trainers provide a valuable service, and so he has managed to start his business and keep it under the table. To a degree. With many a bribe. But his quiet anonymous life of research, practice, and training was about to change. When the Baron demands you pay him a visit, you have little choice.

Marakar
Far from the exploration he yearned to go on, Rae, the Kijah prince, finds himself in the middle of the impending war between Kijah'dar and Ga'ani. Unknown to him, or to the rest of the states, the Kijah Magister plots to overthrow the queen, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his plans. Marakar is a fantasy adventure series about the island states of Mar’narana (with focus primarily on the two states, Kijah'dar and Ga'ani). Tensions between the big players are rising, with more and more plots getting revealed, and powers are unexpectedly shifting. As the string of seemingly unconnected events grows taut, the smaller nations suddenly find themselves into the midst of things, struggling with the sudden shifting of their boards. On a more meta note, I am trying to develop two storylines parallel to each other. As you might have noticed, odd-numbered chapters are very different from even-numbered chapters. That’s because those are the two different storylines; odd-numbered chapters are in the present, while even-numbered ones are in the past. Once the two eventually meet I'll continue with just the present storyline. This story can also be found here where it currently updates every other Sunday (about twice a month). Feedback is greatly appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to read. :) tw/cw list (please take care of your mental health! Don't force yourself to read these chapters if they may harm you). -------> Chapter 14: hate crime description.
