《Hiroto The Cursed Phoenix Mage》Chapter 13: High Risk, High Rewards

I watched the lich jump backwards out of instinct. Strangely enough the power surrounding me felt absolutely amazing.
I witnessed the lich launch an attack. The same vibrant, bright purple attack. It was an attack I could barely track but now it looks moderate. I tilted my head slightly towards the left completely dodging the attack. A small, compact explosion occurred right behind me shortly after dodging.
I glanced around my surroundings and that dark cave that was hard to see became vibrant. The eyes that I'm using are truly a bliss. It's going to take some time in order to get full control of these eyes.
I looked back towards the lich and it was spreading a large amount of clones throughout the cave. The plan the lich was creating was very evident. Did I really almost die from this oblivious beast? If Hiroyuki was here he would be on the ground laughing his brains out.
They all lined up in a single file line like kinder-gardeners. They all created the same purple fire as always and launched it towards my direction. At the half way point though, all the attacks spliced together.
I created a fire sword and took a deep breath in. That calamitous attack that could kill me instantly is now something I'm unfazed by. Strange, I just broke through middle rank however, I'm this strong?
'No I'm not strong, the phoenix is.'
When the assail was within range I swung my sword downwards while exhaling. You could hear a nice, clean cut ringing throughout the room. The attack was completely split in half and bolted past me.
It's surreal how calm I am. Just before I was barely clinging to my life however, now I am completely overwhelming the opponent.
'This power really is amazing.'
That's good and all but none of it is mine. I went on about how I was going to surpass humanity with my own power. In the end I'm nothing but a hypocrite but lets be honest. Everyone in this world is a hypocrite. You're lying to yourself in you think otherwise.
I planted my feet steadily and leaped my way towards the clones. To my surprise I was instantly in front of them. I used the sword and sliced through it's neck. The speed is incredible however,

'It's hard to control'
That's right. It is going to take some time to get used to the speed and apply it correctly. I was barely able to react in time but in the end, it worked out.
There is one thing that I won't need to educate myself in. The one thing I'm most confident in, my strength.
I dashed towards another clone and landed a blow upon his chest. One by one, all the clones died by my hands. Strangely enough, the emotion that was taking control wasn't desperation. It wasn't the will to live and I sure in hell wasn't worried.
'Its been a while since I've felt this excited'
That's right. Excitement was the emotion fueling my body. Why? Who knows, but there is one thing I definitely know. That feeling of excitement will ultimately be the reason why this battle became a massacre.
After finishing off the clones the lich was behind me, confused. Someone that just broke through shouldn't have overwhelming power like this. It takes time for someone too get used to the new surge of power however, I got used to it right away.
I tilted my head, looking directly into its eyes with my own. It's funny how the tide of the battle shifted immediately.
I bolted towards the lich but surprisingly it was able to track me. The lich swung its staff downwards, towards my head.
I took a step towards the left, grabbed the staff, and gave it a little tug. The lich lost its balance and while falling, I shoved my knee in its torso, launching it towards the ceiling.
During the trip there, I launched a long distance attack straight upon his back. The lich crashed into the ceiling and started falling downwards.
I began creating my strongest attack Fire Steam however, this time I'm solely focusing on compression for maximum damage.
My entire hand began glowing a vibrant, bright orange color. The ground beneath me shook then break. I flicked my head upwards towards the lich that was falling.
"This looks familiar doesn't," I questioned. "it's the same plan you used against me."
"There is just one key difference," I stated.
"I won't miss!"
I threw my fist upwards but the lich tilted his body dodging the attack. A huge smirk appeared on my face. I reckon he was going to copy my move like an idiot.

I planted my foot firmly and spun my entire body. I am now facing directly to the lich on his knees.
I glanced right into its eyes. It had eyes of despair, defeat, and most of all, anger.
'Goodbye'
I struck my fist against its rugged skeleton chest. The entire cave began shaking and an explosion erupted throughout the cave. When everything has calmed down, it was just me standing looking down towards the dead lich's corpse. Well, bones. Whatever, call it whatever you seem fit.
Suddenly a chest appeared smack dab in the middle of the cave. I totally forgot something like this appears after clearing the dungeon.
"Wait, this dungeon can be cleared," I yelled.
"So the reason it couldn't be cleared is because no one could find the boss room," I said sighing.
After clearing a dungeon you do indeed receive a prize. It's like an MMOPRG game but its not like we can see the stats of items. No one knows why this happens so what do we do if we can't explain the explainable? Put it all on god! People say god gives of this as a reward for risking your life however, I believe that's a load of bull. It could be intrinsic to the world of magic but there is no solid proof.
I opened the chest and a sword came out. I mean I could just make one out of magic so isn't this kind of useless? Whatever, I walked towards the corpse of the lich and noticed something shining between its ribs. There was a bright, blue sphere that is about the size of my palm. There is only one answer to what this could be.
'A mana crystal'
Mana crystals are items that can be dropped by demon beasts. They are extremely rare even among high ranking demon beasts.
Before I could continue this course of though, huge pieces of ruble started falling down from the ceiling. It seems this cave is done for. It's understandable since everything inside is destroyed.
The lamps that lit this dark cave, the throne that the lich sat comfortable on, and the entire dungeon itself.
Before I could even escape the cave my body suddenly felt heavy. It was hard to move, speak, and even think. My mind was flailing helplessly, searching for answers.
After confirming there is no way out, I dropped on my knees and looked towards the ceiling.
I witnessed rocks, huge rocks fall to the ground helplessly. I was ready too except my fate however, Bedelia had other plans.
[Notice]: Would you like to be transported out of the dungeon? Y/N
"What the hell is this," I asked myself. "Don't tell me I've gone insane."
[Notice]: Bedelia strongly request that you press yes.
"Is this your doing Bedelia," I questioned.
[Notice]: Bedelia nods her head.
"How is this possible," I asked.
[Notice]: Bedelia asks if it's more important to learn that or to live.
"Dammit you're just dodging the question," I stated.
[Notice]: Bedelia shrugs her shoulders with a clueless face.
"You're a hundred percent sure that this isn't an hallucination," I asked, again.
[Notice]: Bedelia nods her head.
I decided to trust her words and pressed yes. I don't know if this is some sort of technique bedelia has but it did indeed save my life. I was transported in front of the dungeons entrance. A hoard of people were outside including a group of high ranking mages.
They were all confused and after looking at my hands its understandable. A sword in my right, and a mana crystal in the left. I still had my phoenix eyes activated. However, what shocked them the most was my aura. The large amount of killing intent that was radiating off of me.
It seems I haven't fully calmed down yet. A scarlet, red fluid started flowing out of my mouth. That scarlet like fluid was evidence that proved my body isn't doing well. I mean I did make the mana inside my body go on a rampage. Kind of my fault but hey, I had no other choice.
I collapsed on the floor still holding on to my belongings.

Homeland
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state.A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier.Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do.Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.
