Sometimes everything aligns in a certain way that brings back long forgotten memories. While on a walk last evening the fresh air, heat, music...everything came together and took me back to a time when I was a carefree kid, chasing friends around the yard as the sun sets. Back to the days of being one with the night, with nature. Feeling the pulse of the air, the heartbeat of the wind. Back when you're outside so often and for so long, you know every shade of shadow on the leaves. Every dip in temperature as the sun sets. The night is you and you are the night. As quickly as it had happened, you're transported back to yourself at the present. Nothing has changed, the adult worries and stresses of your week still remain. What's different is the smile on your face. The gift of the moment is something you can look back on to retrieve that smile, like a picture of a loved one in a locket. Except, this time, the loved one is you.
