《Nightmare》Mother?

One second I am standing in front of the statue with my hand on the cloak. The next I am in a house. It feels warm and cozy. Pictures decorate the walls of the house. I smell an amazing dinner being made as I explore the house. “Hello?” I familiar voice can be heard from the kitchen.
“One second honey. I am just finishing dinner.” I walk into the kitchen and see my mother. I pause standing shocked as she turns around. “Hello honey, I missed you so much.”
“Mom? Zane toward me that you died when I was little..” She frowns and walks over to me.
“I know he did, but now we are together again.” She hugs me and it feels nice, warm, amazing, so many emotions rush through me. I hug her back snuggling slightly. She lets me go. “Sit down so I can feed you dinner.” I sit down still in total shock. I only remembered what my mother looked like but I have no other memories of her. She brings over a large plate of my favorite food.
“You know what I like?” She smiles happy.
“Of course honey. I’ve been waiting for you to come back to me for a long time.” The food tastes amazing. I smile at her as I hear Liz’s voice call for me. I frown slightly as my head begins to hurt. “What’s wrong honey?”
“Just a headache mom.” She comes over and places her hands on my shoulders.
“Let mother help.” I instantly relax underneath her touch. My headache leaves me when I see Flint appear sitting across from me.
“..Flint?” My voice sounds distant and tired. He looks at me worried and looks behind.
“Luna. You need to stop this now. He isn’t like me. He will actually die.” I feel my mother hug me close as her head rests on mine.
“I won’t lose another child my son. I will keep him protectied so nothing will ever hurt him again.” My mother’s voice fades in and out with whispers of darkness. I notice the room start to look ancient and cold. I blink a few times and I stand up as my mother lets me go. I turn around to see nothing. My headache returns as Flint stands next to me.

“What’s going on?” I ask in a haze.
“This is Luna. She is the Nightmare cloak. She is the embodiment of fears.”
“.. Why is she my mother?” Flint frowns and starts to walk through the house. I follow him as I notice an uncomfortably cold breeze flow through the house.
“She is taking a form that you would let your guard down for. She doesn’t know this, but she feeds on life force. The bond she has with people she mistakes for love.” He leads me up some stairs and opens a door. “Stand behind me and see her true form.” He enters the room and I follow him. In front of him, I see a twisted women covered in shadows. She is twisting in twisted motions. For her face, it is just a blackened hole that seems to go on forever.
“My son.. You’ve come back.” She moves over and briefly touches Flint. He stares into her and grabs her arm moving her away slightly.
“Luna.. I am only here for him. You need to understand that he isn’t me.” She pauses and looks at me as my mother and her form switches in and out.
“... I don’t want him.. I want you.. My son..” I frown feeling a little bad for Luna. She sounds like she is full of sadness and regret. Flint stands firm with her though.
“We will meet again on day Luna. Until then, you have to take it easy with Zack. Understand?” She doesn’t say anything for a second and she disappears. Her voice can be heard throughout the house.
“I will stay away for now my son. A mother’s promise will never be broken.” Flint turns to me wiping one of his eyes.
“For now, you should be in full control but we need to start your training once you are in a safe area. I will contact you. Do not.. And I repeat. Do not talk to any other Nightmare. With the Nightmare cloak in your position, you’ve become a threat to people.”

“Wait.. Can you..” I realize that I am on the ground staring up at Liz.
“Zack! Get the hell up! We need to move.” I blink sitting up confused.
“What..” Before I can speak, I am yanked up by Liz. She pulls me after her as we run away from the park. I look around and notice the Infected attacking each other and a few chasing us. We end up losing them through the sidestreets. We stop catching our breaths as Liz looks at me.
“What happened back there? One moment I was talking to you and the next you were knocked out.” I pause for a second. I realize that I am holding the Nightmare cloak. For a second I get a feeling to throw it away but I put it on. I see Liz shakes her head at me waiting for me to answer.
“I have no idea honestly.” She looks around for a second and looks back at me.
“Anyway, we need to head north. Apparently there is a base up there where they moved survivors.”
“Alright. Let’s head back to the car then.” We head back to the car and see it destroyed and looted. Liz frowns cursing to everything underneath the sun. I yawn noticing how late it is getting.
“Liz we can find another car in the morning. Let's find a safe place to stay tonight.” She throws on the empty cans of food at me and without thinking I caught it. I pause somewhat impressed and look at her.
“Fine. Try to find anything useful we can take from the car. I will find us a car in the morning.” I look through the car finding a few things that can help us. A few cans of food, a canteen, and a few other items. We head to a nearby building and set up camp. Liz removes her robes and mask. She starts to clean them as I sit down in a chair. She makes a face at me.
“Yes?” She rolls her eyes and tosses a rag at me.
“Clean your clothes. It prevents the spread of diseases.” I laugh slightly at that.
“I think we are worried about one disease.” I go to clean my clothes but pause at the cloak. I slowly take it off and hang it up watching it slightly. I remove my shirt and start to clean it. I notice her eyes looking at me and I look at her. “Like what you see?” She slightly blushes and looks away annoyed.
“Of course not. I was just interested in your tattoo.” I pause confused.
“Tattoo?” She looks at me like I am an idiot.
“Yes? On your chest?” I pause getting up going to the nearest mirror. I see a small black tattoo of a shadow. It has white lines going up and down it dividing it into five sections. I touch at it slightly shocked.
“I don’t remember ever getting this..”
“Guess you got blacked out drunk.” I shake my head no and look back at her. She shrugs.
“It’s cool.” I finish cleaning my shirt and hang it up. I lay down on my makeshift bed. I reach up and tug down the Nightmare cloak covering me.
“Thanks I think. I am heading to bed. Night Liz.” Before I go to bed, I hear say something.
“Goodnight Zack.”

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.
