《Nightmare》The Fight Back

Once I exit from the tent, I see a group of men on top of the wall guns pointed outwards. I climb the steps to get on top of the wall. I look down to see a small horde of Infected surrounding the compound. I analyze them. They look freshly Infected with parts of their bodies showing regular skin. Wolf appears next to me as he seems panicked.
“We need to get away from man.” I notice one of the Infected look up at me.
“No. If he can truly fix cure an Infected, then we have a way to destroy the Infection.” Wolf makes him look at him.
“You can do it yourself. Nightmare never needed help.” I glare at him.
“I am not Nightmare.” I hear a shriek that makes me look back outside the wall. I see one Infected start attacking one of the other Infected. It completely tears it apart. A notice a few people look confused as the rest of the Infected start to attack each other. “Wolf.. What are they doing?”
“Creating an..” I hear Leonard gasp as he looks over the wall.
“What are you doing?!? You need to stop that now!” I look at him.
“Why?”
“It’s a bomb!” Wolf looks confused as I frown. I jump down and rush the Infected. The last of the Infected turn their sights on me as I draw my sword. The torn apart Infected slowly start to combine and form a big massive black ball. The Infected try to defend the ball as I quickly make work of them. I approach the ball and slash my sword through it. The ball breaks apart and the Infected stop moving. I cut off one of the arms of the Infected and wrap it up in a bag. I store it going back to the compound. I hear a few cheers come from the men from the wall. I slightly smirk feeling pride deep within me. I go to the door and wait for it to open. When it doesn’t open, I sigh and yell up to Leonard.

“Grab my bike and let's go Leonard.” I lean against the wall for a few minutes waiting for Leonard. Wolf appears out of the shadows looking worried.
“.. Zack. I recommend we stay far away from..” I glare at him as he pauses taking a step back.
“You know what Wolf.. I am trying to help people and he might be the only solution we have. So fuck off Wolf.” He frowns and glares slightly. He disappears into some shadows as Leonard drives out on the motorcycle. I motion for him scoot back and I get on. I speed away from the compound. Once I am far enough away, I pull over pulling out the bag. “Fix it.” I toss him the bag and he pauses getting off the motorcycle. He takes a few steps away and I see his hand slowly become white tendrils. He opens the bag and reaches in. He pulls out a man’s hand without any Infection on it. I pause shocked as he drops the hand in the bag. He looks at his tendriled hand and it slowly goes back to normal.
“... See.”
“Alright. Let’s go. I can finally finish this.” He gets back on the motorcycle and we head east toward the main Infection.
We spend the next few days traveling east. We don’t meet or see any Infected. Leonard explains that they probably are hiding from us. Wolf appears every so often looking worried and scared but disappears whenever Leonard looks at him. As we drive down the road, I slow down hearing a car drive behind us. I pull over and look back to see a white van with tinted windows. “Leonard. Go hide as I deal with this.” He gets off and hides behind a tree.
“We don’t have to hurt anyone Zack.” I tune him out as the van skids to a stop a few feet from me. I put a hand on my sword as the door swings open.
“It’s him! We missed you so much Zack” Wart runs from the van and tackles me with a big bear hug. I pause shocked on how they found me but realize Eyes did it. Eyes comes out looking annoyed.

“It took me awhile to find you Zack. Do not make this a habit.” The driver’s side door opens and Liz comes out. I frown sensing that she is extremely pissed with me. She walks up to me and looks at Wart. Wart pauses and goes to his bike. She looks up at me and starts to tap her foot. I frown.
“I..” I don’t finish when she hugs me tight.
“Don’t you ever do that again. We thought you died.” I feel like shit and hug Liz back tight.
“I won’t do that again.” Eyes roll her eyes at me.
“When the mountain came down, I tried my best to follow you. However, you kept..” She coughs slightly and shakes her head. “Kept blinking from place to place.” I look at her.
“Sorry I was just.. Dealing with a lot.” She nods slightly holding her head. Wart comes over to her.
“Snake-Eyes.. Are you alright?” She frowns looking embarrassed.
“I am fine. Just a little sick. I think.” Leonard slowly comes out from behind the tree and everyone looks at him.
“Is it alright that I come out now?” Eyes looks at him confused but starts to cough again. Wart hands her some water. Liz looks at back me as she lets go.
“Who is he?” I walk over to Leonard.
“This is someone who can fix the Infection.” They look at him confused as Leonard smiles slightly.
“I am here to help.” Eyes stumbles slightly coughing more as Wart catches her. Leonard slightly frowns going to her. “It looks you have a virus. You should be fine within a couple of days. You need to rest though.” She frowns blinking slightly.
“.. alright.” Wart takes her to the van. I look at Liz who gives Leonard a once over.
“I am Liz. That’s Wart and Eyes.” Leonard smiles putting his hand out to her.
“Leonard.” She shakes it and goes to the van. I go to the motorcycle as Leonard gets in the van with everyone. I pull up to the driver’s side window.
“Follow me. I am going to find a place for us to stay tonight.” Liz nods and I start driving. After a little bit, I find a nice cabin near the road. After quickly looking over it, I find it safe enough to stay in. Liz pulls the van behind the house and everyone gets out. Wart carries Eyes who looks completely out of it. Leonard gets out and follows Wart and Eyes inside. Liz comes to me as I look at her.
“Leonard seems nice.” She looks at me for a second waiting for something.
“Yea.. Listen.. I didn’t want anyone else getting hurt. So I left so no one else could. I should have talked to you about it. I’m sorry.” She frowns for a second and quickly kisses me on the cheek.
“Do it again and I will break your legs so you can’t.” She pats me on the cheek and heads inside. I feel my cheeks get warm as I try to compose myself. I follow inside. I see Eyes on the couch with Wart watching over her. Leonard is looking through the kitchen and Liz is looking out the window. I sit down on the chair and relax. I notice Wolf in the shadows. I frown and close my eyes trying to relax. I get an idea and try to quiet everything around me. I slowly start to hear whispers and I focus on them. I open my eyes and notice that I am in a desert.

An Average American in A High-school Academy Anime
An American versed in narrative tropes and more than mildly acquainted with anime wakes up in a completely different bed than the one he went to bed in. Now he has to scramble to understand where he is, what's going on, and hope to God he isn't in a relationship drama. I don't expect this to be good or well-received, but I have plenty of time this quarantine, so I'll try to get a chapter of 4000-10000 words out every one or two weeks. (haha) Please let me know how it can be improved. I'm an avid reader of fiction, but I've never really fallen down a rabbit hole so hard that I can name all tropes and settings and such by heart. I'm not sure if this will be effective satire, so I preemptively apologize. Inspired by: "My Life is Not a Manga, or maybe..." by EO Tenkey and "The Simulacrum" by Eganthale. Check them out if you want probably better stories than this one.
