《The Great War: Saturn's Factory》Chapter 15: Aftermath Part 2 (Babina)

Babina sighed as she got to the hospital.
It was bright white, with a massive red cross painted upon it. It was quite the spectacle, with the minty smell that drifted out of it. And the clean air that wafted out with it.
Muddenburg had decent air quality, but well, there was a reason it was Muddenburg after all.
Babina entered the hospital without trouble, depositing Jack to the professionals and then promptly finding a chair to sit down in and rest.
It had just been a hectic few minutes so Babina thought she earned it.
Without even the slightest of things keeping her awake. Her adrenaline had gone down after the fight and there wasn't anybody coming to kill her. She fell asleep like a lamb.
That was only for around half an hour though as dozens of men and women chugged on in, many had wounds that took experience and skill to solve. So Babina was promptly woken up and kicked out.
She didn't have any business there after all, and she was clogging up space from people who needed it.
Babina sighed as she sat inside her room in the Fine and Dandy, the apartment complex that overlooked Nate Vis's place of work. The Rusty Asshole was far nicer than the name first appeared.
Experts worked on creating weapons alongside clocks, triangulators, and whatever else the engineers took a fancy towards. The place had suffered a bit during the end of the Great War but it hadn't involved itself in that business.
So while the arm's industry tanked with the hordes of refund demands and the massive amount of rifles with nowhere else to go.
The Rusty Asshole had survived with only a shaky bit of trouble compared to the earthquakes others felt.
The business was run by Bos, a Serbian Vat-Born made by the Тхе Мутилаторс, The Mutilators. And it showed, those men were always ready to fuse things that no one wanted.

Her eastern-Asian face combined with a large number of muscles, two massive bear claws. And thick tree-trunk legs showed this pretty thoroughly.
From what the government had given Babina, it seemed that Bos's early like was extremely hard. When investigations were sent into The Mutilators, Bos had been one of the surviving Vat-Born they found.
The Mutilators had been disposing of any Vat-Born that came into conflict with the Accords.
It had been a debate of whether they should let the Vat-Born live, plenty of them was going through hell. Some good Samaritans had stepped in and helped the young Vat-Born. Though Bos was the only survivor of the batch.
The story had been changed to involve war-crimes after being found out. After all, knowing a group had violated the Accords would've caused mass rioting.
It seemed that Bos didn't know of her origins. Only knowing that she was a Vat-Born that hadn't been birthed yet and was being slated to be taken out.
Only for her to be birthed before the order could take place.
Babina grimaced, Bos's life was a sad one in origin. And Babina felt sympathy towards the hard life she had held.
Babina watched as the store closed down, Bos being the last one to leave.
"Enjoying the view?" A voice asked.
Babina immediately jumped to her feet, her eyes racing toward the gun she had on the table beside her. An oily mechanical hand snapped out of her sight, grabbing the weapon before she could react.
"Don't jump to any regretful decisions," the voice said again. Babina turned around to face a seven-foot-long man. Multiple mechanical components stuck out of his cloak, twisting and turning in slow cycles. Wires made up what Babina could see. Running blasts of thermal and electric energy through them. His cloak was as black as unaltered coal. Seemingly not color other than pitch black on it.
"Else I might dirty my figure."

Babina shivered at the words. Looking at the figure, she asked "What do you want? And who are you anyway?"
"To answer both questions at once," the figure said. "I'm the client who put out a hit on your target. Forge Master Bep."
Babina giggled at the name. Something which her client found no problem with as he didn't respond.
"Well, Mr.Bep"
"Forge Master Bep."
"What?"
"Those of my order only allow close friends to address us as Mr. or Ms. did your teacher not tell you this?" Forge Master Bep said.
"Um."
"Forget that, where is your teacher in the first place?" Bep asked.
"Um, we don't have one with us currently," Babina said.
"You don't?" Bep asked.
"Yeah, we don't. They only give us teachers if we succeed in our first mission. It's a way to help further weed out the weak."
"I see, I never heard of this new change. But you may find yourself without hope of ever getting a teacher at all."
"Excuse me?" Babina asked.
"Your little stunt earlier was the worst disaster I have ever seen. You not only alerted the targets of your presence. But the destruction you caused to the city while the majority minor, still injured dozens of Birthed. You also inadvertently have set up the scenario to take out a large number of the leaders of this city."
"What do you mean by that last part?"
"Can't say, you've already proved yourself to be utter garbage with secrecy so I worry that you'll reveal these secrets the moment you get the chance," Bep said with what Babina thought was amusement. her cheeks flushed red with the casual insult.
"I have already set up a meeting with your agency. I want actual professionals for this job," Bep turned to leave. Though before they could exit the door, "Then I think you'd rather not try to dig me down."
Bep paused at that.
"And why is that?" He asked.
"Cause of my dad."
"Oh, relying on your family now are we?" Bep asked.
"I have to survive this somehow," Babina said to him.
"So who is your father?" Bep asked.
"The leader of the Hearth Party."
Bep's body stopped at that. He looked at Babina with stone-cold eyes. Or actually, steel cold eyes. Bep's eyes were literally made of steel after all.
"Is he really now?" Bep asked.
"He is, and you'd do well to not mess with me."
"Why is that?"
"Cause if you mess with me, you mess with him. And I don't think his support of you would last that long if you made moves to unseat his daughter's way up this job's ladder."
Bep's body was exceptionally still at this point. Almost every gear apart of him having ground to a halt.
"Fine, but I will hold back my remarks on your team's incompetence. But you will have someone to watch over you with this operation," Bep leaned in close to Babina's face. "Or Vulcan will bring down the roof on you. We hold our own power players as well."
"Pleasure doing business," Babina said.
"Don't lie, you and I both know this was no pleasure."
"One shall not commit their resources to the purpose of making life not meant to be. Nor shall any man seek to breed sentient life for no other reason but to kill. One shall not make any sentient life for the purpose of bloodshed. One shall not make any life that disrupts the will of nature. And one shall not create a life that will live in only eternal suffering."

Is Lucas Destined to Die in the New World?
Lucas imagined himself doing grander things in life; after all, he put in his own blood, sweat, and tears, and got himself a master's degree in English. Maybe he'd be the next best-selling author, or maybe the most popular late night TV show host. However, life didn't give him anything more than a management position at the local burger joint. Day in and day out, he flipped burgers, swept floors, and made weekly schedules that his employees ignored. All he had known for the past five years of his life was pure misery. Then after one night of drunken revelry, he found himself in an unfamiliar world, but he knew all the gimmicks. He knew these stories had quirks he could manipulate- he could put all his stats into magic and become the best wizard in the world, or he could dump all his stats into strength and become a veritable warrior. But once again, just like Earth, this new world seemed to have different plans for him. Instead, he was given a luck stat of 0 and a skill that forced him into danger where there should have been none. Why is this nerdy, magical paradise trying to kill him? Content warnings are there to give me some creative legroom later. There's not an excess of any gruesome content in the story, and what is there is tastefully sprinkled in. This is a LitRPG. Updates are twice a week on Mon/Fri plus some extras here and there.
