A wave of monsters ran from the center of the tree and into the forest, my team are nowhere to be found and the wave has started, I think they were in the deep forest defending. So I did not bother.

Since I was a hero, I couldn't even attempt to escape from the dead outbreak due to the kingdom's "hero protection barrier" power.

The same was applied to my summons and the other heroes; it was likely that my team are also confined to the kingdom along with me.

The barrier affects half of the forest, as well as the town that was near the kingdom

"Charge!"

"Defend!"

Akira and Rudolf shouted with honor, trying to defend against the vast monsters that were coming this way.

"Summon dark phoenix!"

*fluke playing*

"Change property: Titanium skin"

Good! With the dark phoenix, I can keep the flying creeps out of the way, not to mention the added buff of "titanium skin" to prolong its life, now time to attack in the ground.

I heard a loud explosion from within the city, I looked up and saw no sign of my phoenix, and most of the enemies are in the town square.

"How... that phoenix was at a higher level than the monsters, and theoretically a big wave of them in the air will not kill it."

I drank my mana potions and summoned 5 phoenixes quickly inside the town square, and I also summoned 5 dark wolves to join in the other summons. And all of them were buffed with the "titanium skin", I can only summon up to ten summons so that might be enough to fight the freaks in the kingdom.

I looked at other heroes fighting so I joined them using nothing but my whip

"You can't be the only one's having fun fighting them"

"Ender good timing we are about to win the first wave and after this, we rest"

"Yeah... By the way, where is Akira?"

"He's in the forest clearing some of the monsters there, and I am here to clean the ones that pass by, we planned this with the senator remember?"

"Aww yeah... now I remember"

Just when I thought things were going smoothly the capital made another large explosion, even stronger than the other one."

"Ender the capital! Go inside and defend the capital."

"Hai!"

"Wait did I just ordered 10 summons to defend the capital? How are they dying, the monsters are 5 levels below my summons and they have the "titanium skin" buff which makes them harder to kill, but somehow they keep on dying! How is this possible!?"

I rushed to the capital and as I thought there were no trace and sign of my summons defending the wave, something must be going on with them.

"Summon dark wolves!"

"Waa... Shit, my mana is drained! I drank all my mana potions a while ago, I'll need to use my whip to defend myself or else I'm going to die."

"This is bad, I have to protect the infested plaza by myself, and there is no going back!"

I contemplated on the words the heroes said to me about my class being overall weak and a letdown to them, this whole time I was mad and angry about myself and my role as a hero.

"Damn it... If it was not for this stupid class I would have not gotten myself into this mess!"

"If it weren't for my great and powerful summons my life would be better! Damn it all!!"

"My stupid team not helping me at all! Where are those idiots anyway not helping me!?"

As I said that a giant Chimera-like creature flew into the plaza and attacked me, I was frightened and scared I had a giant bite in my arm region and I thought it was the end of me, and right as I thought I was going to get eaten, Rudolf came and shielded me and used his "Counter-block shield" skill to push the chimera and was then defeated by Akira using his giant scythe."

When the chimera died the other monsters attacking the plaza rotted to the ground and produced a really bad odor.

"Ender, are you okay? I will heal you now don't worry."

"Rudolf, Akira why did you come for me? Why did you not just let me die?"

"I did not come for you idiot, I saw the final monster from the wave and it flew to the plaza, so I called Rudolf as soon as I saw him but I'm glad you're not dead yet."

With sadness and disappointment in my eyes, I stood up and thanked Rudolf and Akira for the work they have done and for the help they gave me.

"Yeah, yeah don't mention it"

"HA HA HA! Don't sweat in Ender I can't stand to see a fellow hero in danger, and plus at least you protected the plaza all by yourself while we fought the wave from outside, don't get your spirits low and also the senator said that we need to go to the throne room after the fight, for our reward!"

"Yeah... Thanks, Rudolf"

"Hai! Now hurry the three of us need to go now!"

Apparently, their party got escorted to the palace before they did, I hope my team is also safe.
