《blood tax》Chapter 23 The Incredible Wonderful House
Advertisement
A few days later, the Homonwarts reference list was delivered to Larmore House. From aristocratic students to ordinary students, as well as special students, Shutorals have to go to Homon Watts's property in Bayeran, College Road, to purchase textbooks for their own courses. Most of the new students are magic subjects, completing at least twenty compulsory and elective courses each semester.
It's a pretty expensive affair, and every new book can keep the average person through at least a week. Some professors even adapt a new book every year...
The Homonwarts school was established in a small town in the northern province of Bayeran, and only a part of the institutions and industries remained in the city of Bayeran. The college's motto "All men are created equal" is inscribed at the entrance of College Road, the property of Homon Watts in Bayerland. Neither the maids nor the maids are allowed to enter without special permission.
Except for the store owner, ordinary people who are not Extraordinary are not allowed to enter.
From the moment they stepped into this Homonwarts industry, the noble descendants who thought they were more equal than ordinary people could only rely on themselves.
Just like the higher magic academy they are about to enter, where the social class is greatly weakened, the sons and daughters of nobles and nobles will face the same academic pressure as ordinary young people (can't cheat), worry about the social environment (no one turns around) , and even dealing with daily affairs (dressing) has become an unprecedented challenge. For many girls, how to transport textbooks as heavy as bricks to the express center is a serious problem.
However, the noble children have their own solutions.
That's the Thutoral, the companion cavalry. Only a truly famous family can select a qualified Shutoral and can afford his expenses.
Decades ago, a great aristocrat who had been bullied on campus during his student days approached the headmaster to include those blood taxmen who had made a major contribution to the security and prosperity of the kingdom into the newly-built academy military command section.
Every selected junior non-commissioned officer is eligible to apply for admission to this comprehensive academy after serving on the front line for two years. They are taking required courses like other students, while completing courses in advanced military command studies.
The learned principal had not discovered the true purpose of the move at first. After all, it's a great suggestion for diversity, education, and social needs. Until he found out that the strong, loyal, and indomitable young girls and boys of Shutoral were all vassals who were extremely loyal to the main family...
In this school that weakened social class and strengthened the value of learning, sports and appearance, Shutolar was immediately welcomed by the professors and students, and together with the children of Yixun Gui and their Shutuo was formed. Lal as the core of the small circles.
By the time the Homonwarts regents discovered the problem, there was nothing they could do. Some school directors thought it was a great idea, and not only tried to block any reform measures, but also packed in their own children and vassals.
...
In addition to thick textbooks, wands are especially important for a freshman in the magic department.
For spellcasters, to save a lot of tedious configuration and chants, you have to have a wand and pre-programmed commands. Even better if you have a wand.
When using spells, the preset commands can shorten the chanting time, and only need a few simple phrases to activate the spell. In the case that the strength is not much different, as long as you capture or disarm the opponent's wand/staff, you can be in a winning position.

It is said that two noble demigods once fought over each other's staff during a duel. Because each has extremely high magic resistance and sufficient defense measures, the final scene becomes like a fight between two gangsters holding wooden sticks.
"Introduction to Magic, Basic Alchemy, and Basic Spells, um, I can all! "Potions Experiments," hey..." Sonia happily took down the beautifully bound new books from the shelf.Hand it to Griffith who followed behind, "Griffith, don't you take your book? Is it too heavy?"
The apprentice knight staggered behind the blond girl holding the half-height professional textbooks and tutorial books, and stuck his head out of the pile of books, "My elective courses are not the same, Miss Sonia. And the new book is for my salary. It's too expensive, I'll go to a used bookstore later."
"Hmm~" Sonia didn't think of this question, "You can put it on my account!"
"Thank you for your kindness, miss," Griffith shook his head with a smile, "but it's the custom of Cytolar. Using the monarch's fee will disrupt your financial planning, which is also one of our compulsory courses."
"Okay, okay~" Sonia lowered her jewel-like eyes slightly, "Then~ then don't call me Miss! Just call me Sonia, and we will be classmates in a few days."
"Your will is my action," Griffith swallowed back the word "Miss" that jumped to his lips, "Sonia."
After buying textbooks for Sonia, Griffith handed over the pile of books to the courier company, who would be responsible for returning them to the Larmor mansion. The earl's daughter happily went to the cafe on the street with a few girls to rest, and the rest of the time could be left to the apprentice knight himself, as long as he came to pick her up at three o'clock in the afternoon.
"Old bookstore...Old bookstore..." Griffith turned around a few times in the crowded street, and finally found his target at a corner.
The three-story gray building is jam-packed with books of various colors, and it doesn't even have stairs to go upstairs. The owner of the bookstore uses a small ladder to climb up and down.
"Introduction to Magic, General Knowledge of Occult..." Griffith first reported to the boss the required course books, and then stated his professional course books, "The Theory of Elementary Infantry Command, "Standard Camp" , "Introduction to the Standard Staff."
"Oh, Shutoral! You're welcome!" the lanky shopkeeper responded in a happy tone, "Needless to say, I know what you want? It's the same every year? Would you like a copy of The Origin of Blood Tax by Dandong? , the booklet was very popular."
"No need... I still know myself quite well."
At this moment, the store door was opened, and a group of boys and girls rushed into the bookstore like a whirlwind.
"See! (Only 2 Yinlangs!)" The lead was a pair of tall boys who looked exactly the same, talking at the same time in the same tone, "The rest of the money can buy a lot of weird beans. (Don't Forgot to give us a little as a reward!)"
The twin brothers said in a cheerful and jumpy tone: "Quickly bring a set of new students' textbooks to Lord Aaron. (It can't be an off-line old book, preferably the kind with notes!)"
"Aaron?" the bookstore owner exclaimed. "Aaron Lundilos? God, you look exactly like your dad when he was a kid."
While speaking, Aaron had already come to the bookstore. Although wearing a low-key coat, his soft and delicate blond hair has the color of the sun, his skin is smooth and delicate, like a girl, his tall nose bridge and handsome profile are comparable to the stars of the theater. The most striking thing is the pair of blood The red eyes seemed to have a captivating power.

"Gods are above, how can I have such an honor!" The used bookstore owner shouted in a joyful tone that he was about to give him a set for free, "I'll give you a 22% discount!"
"Who is this guy? He seems to be famous." Griffith leaned against the bookshelf to avoid being knocked over by his excited classmates.
"Aaron Lundilus, son of Deren Lundilus, don't you know?" A tall teenager emerged from the bookshelf behind Griffith, "Victory belongs to Bayeran."
He was wearing a capable coat, with a sword hanging from his waist. He was burly and well-defined. His resolute face looked a bit ferocious, but he seemed to be trying to suppress the surging power.
"Lana!" Griffith slapped his chest with joy, "Are you also Sutolar?"
"Count Charon, Miss Fiona de Charon, have you seen her?" Rana was more than half a head taller than Griffith, a feared hussar and madman in the wing. warrior. But now he looks very gentle, even holding a pile of textbooks.
"I've already met Miss Xia Long, and we were supposed to gather later." Griffith replied, "They seem to have some activity for us to participate in together."
Rana handed over the pile of books in his hand to the shopkeeper to check out, nodded and said:
"It seems that Fiona asked me to bring a weapon.
"Speaking of Aaron, he was the only one who survived the record erasure fifteen years ago, even though he was only a year old. Can't understand how. He may be hiding a lot of secrets, Keep an eye out while we're at Homonwarts.
"In addition, Aaron means the grace of the Holy Light, and his family name Rendilus means the winner. From his experience, his family is indeed very favored by the gods."
"Interesting names, you actually know the etymology of these names," Griffith said in admiration. "It's very knowledgeable."
"Isn't this what it should be? We Shutoral will become officers and coat of arms of the monarch's family in the future. This is our compulsory course," Rana shrugged, "If you want to know, I can borrow it from you. a book."
Griffith couldn't help but cast his eyes on the boy who became the topic of conversation.
In the lively second-hand bookstore, Aaron stood calmly in the crowd, as if he was exiled with a trace of boredom and boredom. The complimenting shopkeeper and a group of small servants around him were talking enthusiastically, and Aaron responded occasionally, which immediately made them ecstatic.
Those blood-red eyes seemed to have endless power, attracting and swallowing the attention of those around them.
Aaron's eyes snapped to Griffith. At the moment when the lines of sight met, Griffith felt a needle-like impact and touch, as well as a powerful mental wave. A mixture of curiosity, vigilance, and all kinds of strange feelings made him unable to resist staring at the blond, red-eyed teenager not far away.
Aaron was staring at him too.
"Let's go," Rana interrupted his attention by patting the apprentice knight on the shoulder, "it's time for us to meet up with the ladies."
...
After purchasing textbooks and necessary tools, everyone gathered at the entrance of the cafe. Sonia took out her wand, performed a simple wayfinding technique, and led everyone into the alley behind College Street.
Unexpectedly, this place is so dark and deep.
For a split second, Griffith wondered if he was lost in the maze of dreams.
The Beyeland property of Homonwarts Advanced Institute of Witchcraft and Wizardry is staggeringly large. Behind the busy shopping street, there are still a lot of old houses and narrow alleys.
"We, did we go wrong?~" Fiona asked uncertainly.
"That's right!" Sonia walked at the front. "The place we're going to is in Corner Alley, which is said to be as old as Bayeran's city wall. Only Extraordinary can find it with the help of certain spells or items."
"Okay—let's go." Fiona bit her lip and followed behind Lana.
The silence and darkness around him became more intense, and Griffith seemed to have hallucinations, always feeling that some animal was running quietly in the darkness within reach, or someone was whispering.
He tried to calm down to listen or perceive these strange movements, but the weak inspiration left him ignorant.
Finally, everyone came to an abandoned mansion that stood abruptly in a clearing. A few crooked words were written on the tattered house number, like Halloween graffiti—
"The Incredibly Wonderful House."
How could such a dilapidated house remain in the Homonwarts estate? What are we doing here? Griffith was desperate to ask a bunch of questions, but didn't know if it was the right one.
"This wonderful house appeared not long before the last war, 17 years ago," Iseus pointed to the lonely mansion ahead, "where visitors are said to have a very good experience, and even retrieve lost memories and thing."
Griffith looked suspiciously at Shutoralmura who was beside Iseus, but the blond apprentice knight was also at a loss.
Miss Fiona noticed their confusion: "Isseus' father, the previous Viscount, was killed on an expedition to the south. The head of their family has guarded a secret for generations that Iseus listened to his father as a child. As mentioned, it is an important weapon against black magic."
"My father was a great sorcerer, and so shall I be," said the lean Itheus. "I was too young to hear that secret. But with the help of this wonderful house, I can recall. Not only It's me, and everyone who enters this house has some special memory or some vision. Do you know what that means?"
Griffith, Lana, and Murat shook their heads together.
"The control of thinking and memory is the most important ability of the caster path Extraordinary, so that we can mobilize knowledge when needed, complete specific magic configurations and use magic spells," Fiona explained to everyone, " Before we can be promoted to Sequence 8 Loremaster, we need to complete an exclusive special ceremony-reproducing a forgotten memory, which can be done here!"
"We are here for this," Sonia's sparkling eyes were full of anticipation, "Although it is not a necessary ritual for your sequence, it can also improve your spiritual power, which is very useful for learning and memory. helpful."
Hmm... The three apprentice knights fell silent together, feeling that something was wrong.
"Is this mansion a Sealed Artifact that is not officially managed?!" Rana suddenly realized, "Isn't it illegal to use the Sealed Artifact privately?"
"Hehe~ yeah..." Fiona turned her head to the side quickly.
"This may be dangerous," Griffith felt a huge sense of oppression suppressing his heart. "The sealed object may hide unknown negative effects, and it will take a long time to test before it can be put into practical use."
"With the talents of three people, the promotion ceremony can be completed even without this sealed artifact, there is no need to take risks here." Mura also echoed, "and this sealed artifact is not registered and managed, it may be hidden by cultists or darkness strength."
Griffith and the others are right~ But in that case, my mental strength will be improved step by step, and the spell practice after school may not go smoothly...Sonia bit her lip lightly, and turned her inquiring eyes to Fiona.
In case, I mean in case, I was delayed in the process of being promoted to erudite, unable to cast the spell of new learning, what a shame! Fiona imagined the predicament in the Charms class, felt so ashamed, and looked at Sonia unconsciously.
"It's okay, we don't need to be too far away from each other." Iseus said confidently, "Even if it is really dangerous, we have three Shutorals here. Those of you who came back from the battlefield are very resistant to mental magic. , the blood energy can also interrupt the singing, whether it is hand-to-hand combat or fighting against the caster, I am not worried. My only concern is that your blood evil energy will not affect the operation of this wonderful house. "
"Well, that's right!" Sonia finally made up her mind. "There are no special spells or items that cannot be found here, so don't worry about being used as a stronghold by bad guys."

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Just a Rock
There was once a writer that felt like creating a story about a rock. A rock so amazing that its story just needed to be told. How amazing? Not amazing at all, on the contrary, quite ordinary. Don't believe me? Then read on. Edit: Resumed the story. Can’t do any more audio versions for now. I plan on editing some of the now non-applicable author notes and maybe rearranging the two side stories or combining them with the deleted chapters.
