Devon glares at the dwarf who stands in front of him "you know, if you wanted to talk, you could have just said so… my head still aches" The dwarf chuckles "unfortunately, you're not here because of me" The metal door creaks as it is thrown open and a priest and a lady step into the cell "devon laire, do you have anything you wish to say before we commence?" the priest asks "is it raining? " "huh?" "is it raining? i think it's raining, but i can't say for sure" The dwarf chuckles to himself as the priest glares at devon ..l ; "am i?" The priest gestures and the dwarf punches devon Health -5 "we have matters to attend to, devon " the lady says "so did i, till i was kidnapped, which one of you do i have to thank for that" devon says and the priest narrows his eyes "as a citizen ,you should understand" the lady says frowning "so uh are you two 'the council' " devon says and smiles "the rest of the council are too busy to be here with us" lady merril says "oh, so you guys drew the short straw??" "we don't have time for this" lady merril says and narrows her eyes "devon laire, you led a revolt in an orphanage leading to the death of two nuns, five orphans and the escape of twenty one orphans, what do you have to say for yourself?" the priest narrows his eyes "well, first of all; thank your god you said 'escape', that place was a prison; no, worse… secondly, the nuns deserved to die, the five orphans , were a mistake… and the twenty one that escaped, i hope they're all okay… " "is that all?" "not quite, do you know what was going on in those hellholes you called orphanages, the children when mature were sold as slaves…" "how do you expect the orphanage to run without funds?" lady merril says interrupting devon "really? You are okay with the fact that children are being sold as slaves?" "yes" Devon narrows his eyes at her "although we cannot return you to the orphanage, you have a debt to pay, you will either be sold as a slave or work to pay that debt" the priest says "unfortunately, we cannot execute you for murder because apparently you put your life on the line to defend the walls, and so you will be spared" he continues "do you understand?" "hmmm" devon strokes his chin "are you daft too?" lady merril says "nope, just in huge debt" devon says "at least you got something" the priest says and the lady exhales, and they both turn to leave "wait! Hold up!" devon calls "what?" the priest says turning " are you one of the priest of nanna?" "why, yes" "i met one of you guys on the road here" "really?" "yeah, finn" "that hypocrite" the priest says and clicks his tongue in annoyance "huh?" "he was a theif, a lier, a deciever" Devon opens his mouth to say something but closes it when he realizes the dwarf is still beside him "make no mistake, he is no longer one of us" the priest spits "once he gets here. I shall releive him of his priesthood" he continues "he's dead" "one of his parlour tricks" "he died, i saw him die" "well, he deserved to die..." The priest says and walks away "what was that about?" devon says to himself The dwarf shrugs and sighs "priests" "yeah …"

Wildcards: The Dread Captain
At the District One Invitational, a rookie eSports team defied all odds and reached the finals. Their underdog story and humble beginnings elevated them to worldwide acclaim. Media corporations dubbed them, The Paragons. With their main competition eliminated from the tournament during the semifinals, the rookie team sailed through the live finals and won by a landslide. Their prize was to become the first ever players in the most exclusive VR game yet, Abidden. The Paragons never celebrated that semi-final victory. They lost a friend in that match, who never appeared online again. Ten years later, the gaming landscape has changed and Abidden with it. Helena is the last remaining Paragon. Her team now consists of celebrities, influencers and musicians. Abidden has been reduced to a shadow of its former glory, but is the most streamed and viewed game in the world, despite having only a handful of players. None of this matters to James Sylvester. Finally out of hospital, things aren't good for James. He's found himself crippled with medical debt, his gaming licence has been revoked and he's permanently lost his place in society. He now spends his days competing in illegal slum arcades to manage the repayments. When a high-profile job comes along, James gets temporary backdoor access to his blacklisted gaming account. After reactivating it for the first time in ten years, James receives an invitation that could change his life forever. The Complete Alchemyst book 1
You've heard of superheroes, seen them flying across the sky, destroying great swaths of cities and ending countless innocent lives in order to defeat great evils and world-spanning threats and sell lots of sponsorships and merchandising opportunities. This is a story about the guy that is not those heroes. A supervillain in a world where making the right friends and political contacts is what separates the good guys from the bad. The Alchemyst is a story about a normal guy in a crazy world that spends his time trying to follow his dreams and conscience, working on new potions, thinking about girls, and lifting heavy shit, while trying to stay under the radar of the superheroes, supervillains, and governments that want what he can do. And occasionally turning them into makeshift melee weapons. If you enjoy The Boys, the Aberrant roleplaying game, Mystery Men, Trashy romances, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, or SAW you may enjoy this book. Please note that this book has extremely graphic and sometimes gross fight scenes, heroes as villains, villains as heroes, opinionated and often politically incorrect characters, some graphic sex scenes, dad jokes, dirty jokes, realistic depictions of romance and flirting, bondage and dominance themes, and more than a few cuss words when they are really appropriate. This is NOT a superhero genre deconstruction. Many heroes truly are heroes, and they don't all need to be destroyed to make a good story, but it does look into the dark side of superpowers and the unreasonable and often contradictory demands placed on exceptional people.
