《Gallinus》8- At least, I know her name
Advertisement
With the sun rising in the sky, I wake up to a new day.
… Since when do I wake up so early?
The room is pitch dark, but for some reason, I’m sure the sky is starting to light up.
This is already the third day in this dream… Am I really dreaming?
The more time passes, more I question the reality in front of my eyes.
In a way, it is very strange that I have such a lived dream, that I can even be hungry, feel pain…
I don’t know what to believe anymore…
While I think, I wait for the girl to wake up.
[…]
After a few hours, the girl gets up and opens the window, finally letting me have a look inside the room.
- Good morning, Galizé! Are you ready to continue training? – She says, all excited.
No.
- So, let’s go!
The girl takes me in her hands and takes us to the kitchen, where the girl’s mother is finishing cooking.
- Before leaving, it is better to eat some. – Speaks the girl’s mother, bringing the food to the table.
- Ok! – The girl responds while sitting down.
… So, on the third day, can I understand others?
I really don’t understand why, the day before, I could only understand the girl, but today I can understand what her mother says.
Is it a delay? Or am I still downloading the language of this world in my brain?
I have no idea why, but that also left me with a big doubt.
Will something change tomorrow?
Well, the only way to know was to wait for the next day.
Anyway, as I’m starting to accept this new reality more, instead of eating the corn they gave me, I just go to the girl’s bread and try to steal it.

- Hey! Don’t take my bread! – She says, trying to pull it, but only makes it be torn in half.
This bread is my right, for all that I went through thanks to you!
Without hesitation, I eat the piece I took and then try to get more, but the girl hides the rest.
The girl’s mother, seeing this, makes a small smile and then gave me a bread.
- Okay, now you have yours too. – She says smiling. I could see a greenish color around her.
About these colors, I noticed that it is necessary to focus my vision on someone to be able to see.
If not, the only color I see is gray. And it is not always possible to see the color, even in focus.
Maybe I can only see feelings that are intense or focused on me?
Of course, this is only for distant people, since I can easily see the colors of this girl who hides bread.
I don’t understand why I see only her feelings more easily…
I think as I watch the girl with a purple tinge around her.
I need to keep thinking about the meaning of these colors.
As far as I know, Gray means neutral, Red is something like rage, Wine can be hostility, Orange should be something like doubt, Yellow is optimism, for sure, and this purple, which is probable suspicion, caution.
I wonder what that green means…
It was with these thoughts that I finish my breakfast and am taken to the garden.
[...]
I don’t want to train…
Watching the girl make her moves, wanting me to copy them, I started to get tired.
- Come on, Galizé, do this for your owner!
My owner? I don’t even know your name!
This is a detail that I am getting upset about. This girl hasn’t told me her name yet!

Or rather, maybe she said? But that must have happened on the first day, when I didn’t understand a word.
The only way to get her name right now, is through her mother or try to convince this girl to tell me.
For now, I will try to look doubtful.
I bend my head to one side while looking her in the eyes.
- …Hm? What’s it? Couldn’t you understand any movement? – The girl asks me, even though she know I can’t answer.
How can I change the subject… Ah, I have it!
I lift my paw and show her my necklace.
- Your necklace? Do you want to know what it is?
I confirm with my head.
- So that’s it... This necklace has a very important meaning, since it connects our contract. – the girl starts to explain while sitting next to me.
Contract? This is new.
- Do you see this ring here? – She says, showing me a golden ring on her finger. – It is linked with your necklace, thus forming a contract between us.
Interesting… But what are the clauses of this contract? And when did I sign something?
Although the girl didn’t answer these questions, she continued.
- That’s why I think you’re very strange, you know? – She says watching me. – Anyway, shall we go back to training?
… Wait! Explain to me more about it! And I still don’t know your name!
- Suzy, can you go buy me some things? – The girl’s mother calls her form inside the house.
- Okay, mom, I’m going! – The girl responds. – I’m going to have to go out for a bit, then you’ll stay with my mother.
After that, the girl takes me into the house and leaves me on the table.
…Well, at least I know her name is Suzy.
I could only settle for that for today, while new doubts popped into my mind…

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

(Un)Paralleled
Based on the novel by MGHT, Unparalleled. Things are not as they were. In this alternate story, follow our Hero(?) as he traverses the world. But, is this world really the one we know? I will be using MGHT's original story as a guideline, and applying my own touch to it. Due to there being a lack of information on the wider scope of things, I'll be throwing in things that may not adhere to the original author's plans. Then again, what fun is there in reading something that has already been done? Tags and genres stated are subject to change without notice, be it the addition or removal of tags. Cover art is a fanart I found online a long time ago. Character is Gyuki from Nurarihyon No Mago.
