《Gallinus》13- More questions

After a long and tiring day, Suzy and I returned to our home.
On the way, I started to think about how this world works, since nobody can answer me.
Let’s see, we have these spiritual animals, like me… There’s magic… This cultivation that I still don’t understand what it is… And there is that tower of challenges, which I don’t know why we need to complete it or why it was created.
Many doubts were on my mind, but in general, I could conclude it is possible to achieve a strength superior to the humans in my world.
Maybe the hierarchy is like that too? The strongest is the one with the most privileges.
That was a great possibility, since I don’t know how strong a human in this world can become.
But, if so, then… Money would lose its importance a lot, right?
Certainly, money is important, but if the world is ruled by the strongest, then wouldn’t it be easy for someone weak to be stolen?
At least, in my world, there is a chance that someone weak will face someone strong, but in this world, depending on the scale of strength, it will probably be impossible.
These thoughts began to show me it would be impossible for me to become rich until I had some support.
What should I do? Besides not being able to talk, I’m just a bird that can’t fly! My only salvation would probably be magic!
The only problem is that I have no idea how to use magic, or to know if I, at least, can use it.
I had to accept, if I don’t look for answers soon, I will end up being just emergency food.
Also… I need to keep watching those colors.
I had already discovered what many of these colors meant, but some are still strange.
In addition, there is also the combination of colors and the central colors, which I am still confused.
Each color does not really indicate a feeling, but the state of the person…
I came to this conclusion, after thinking about the light gray, which I saw in several unknown people.
This tone indicates neutrality towards me, instead of your own feelings.

This is what the surrounding color means, but the inside never changes, so I started to suspect about magic.
After all, that boy who made the earth armor had the brown color inside him…
It is a suspicion that I still have no substantiated, but I would like to know if it is true.
Well, leaving that aside, I also need to find something to do. My days are getting more and more boring since I don’t like to be training.
I wanted my cell phone… Although I can’t use it in that state.
While I’m down, we finally get home.
[...]
It was already dark and I’m on the kitchen table, looking for something.
… There is no book in this house?!
I discovered some time ago that I can’t read, but I can get Suzy to tell me about it and, hopefully, find answers.
But there wasn’t a single book inside the house.
Should I try another way? How about drawing?
I use my claws to scratch the table, but I don’t have any precision doing this.
… This is impossible.
Giving up on my goal, I decide to go to Suzy’s mother’s room. She seems to be sick, since she can’t get out of bed.
Suzy is taking care of her while sitting new to her.
This disease came out of nowhere… She was perfectly fine yesterday.
I approached them silently and climbed on the edge of the bed. I didn’t want to disturb their conversation.
- It seems that this moment came faster than I expected… - Suzy’s mother murmured.
- No, you can’t go now!! – Suzy exclaims loudly, while some tears start to accumulate in her eyes. – I want you to see me complete the tower!
It seems that the two know something I don’t know…
Something strange was happening in front of me.
Even though I can’t see in the dark, a strange light is illuminating Suzy’s mom.
It does not seem to be the moonlight in the window, but something that comes from inside her.
Another weird thing was the color inside her. So far, I haven’t looked at Suzy’s mother much, but the color inside her occupies her entire body.

And if I don’t focus well, I can’t see it.
Just what’s going on?
- We both already knew this would happen, so don’t be sad. – Suzy’s mother says, running a hand through her daughter’s hair.
She is smiling, but I can easily say that she is also sad.
Suzy decides to ask something, but by her sad appearance, she knew the answer.
- But… Can’t you stay a little longer?
I see her mother shake her head in denial.
- Suzy, can you get me a glass of water? – The mother asks.
As soon as Suzy leaves the room, she looks at me.
- Come here, let me tell you something. – She calls me while smiling.
I climb on top of her legs, which are under a blanket, and approach. As I walk towards her face, I can see this unusual glow around her body.
- Tell me, can you understand me? – She asks.
I give a slight nod.
For the first time, someone asked me that question…
- I see… - She answers before bringing her hand close to me and taking my necklace.
The rooster necklace, which seems to indicate the contract I made with Suzy.
- You… Would you like to be free? – The mother asks.
Why is she asking me this? Will she set me free? So of course, I…
But, as soon as I think to confirm, another thought came to my mind.
Would it really be good for me to break free now? Leave Suzy in her current state and go?
I may not understand everything, but Suzy’s mom is probably leaving us today.
Seeing my state of confusion, the mother removed her hand from my necklace and then placed it on my head, petting it.
- It looks like you’re confused, but it’s not that bad. – She says, smiling. – If you confirmed that you wanted to be free, I would have strangled you.
I could see the faint red color around her for a brief moment.
This woman is dangerous… And where’s Suzy with the water?!
- If you want to know where Suzy is, I run out of water here and she needed to get more. – She says calmly.
Why did you do that!?
- Returning to the subject, you are one of the causes of Suzy being in despair. – The mother speaks, looking directly at my beak. – After all, she had high expectations as a priestess.
Isn’t she one more?
Even though I wanted to know the answer, my questions never arrive.
- Although… I just want her to have a normal life. – She says, seeming to be suffering a little. – I said she’ll be able to do what she wants, but that must be impossible… No, I wish it never happens.
Just what are you saying!?
I don’t know Suzy’s goal, but it looks like her mother has been motivating her, even though she doesn’t believe it’s possible.
Her body became more and more brilliant, making the scene very beautiful. The lights seemed to join the moonlight and go skyward.
At that moment, Suzy returned with the glass of water. Because of that, I move away and stay on the edge of the bed.
- Here’s you water… - Suzy says, with a sad face.
- Thanks. – The mother speaks while smiling.
But as soon as she tries to get the glass… It passes through her hand and falls to the floor.
With a bluish-white glow, her hand was disappearing.
Suzy, not caring about the water, hugs her mother, who also returns the hug.
- I-I don’t want to be alone! D-Don’t leave me!! – Suzy exclaims with her face on her mother’s breasts.
She was starting to sob as tears streamed down her face.
- Stay alone? Don’t you have your friends? – Her mother asks.
- This is different!!
I watched them both while Suzy’s mom was disappearing. The bluish-white light was making her body more and more transparent.
She, probably realizing that she no longer has time, lightly kissed Suzy’s forehead.
- Be happy, my daughter… - She says, before disappearing in the moonlight.
Suzy stayed there, crying until she fell asleep while I stayed at the window, wondering what just happened while watching the stars.

Mobius
Far in the future, humans have thoroughly colonized space through the use of floating colonies and artificially replicating the Earth whenever possible. Most of these endeavors have gone well, with humanity spreading across the universe like the seeds of plants floating in the wind. Yet still there lurks the great mistake, the endless station of Mobius, a megastructure which hasn't ceased its building in over a century. Dante, a man living in this megastructure, is tasked with the recording of stories told by criminals, particularly those who travel between strata. One day, a prisoner is captured claiming to be Captain Pluto, an infamous criminal thought to be fictitious by most scholars. Even more curious, he claims to hail all the way from Stratum 56, a location so far away from Dante's Stratum 999 that it would take lifetimes to traverse such a distance. Dante must discern whether or not the story is false or true, and the longer he lets Captain Pluto speak, the more difficult his task becomes. *****Average chapter length will be 10k words give or take. This isn't a very serious story for me. I'm writing this to blow off steam. Updates will happen infrequently because of this, and it will most likely be unpolished unless I begin to take it more seriously.
