《The Darkened Dove (SCP-049 x reader)》Chapter 17: The Illusion of Escape

"And here we are, now that wasn't too hard was it?" An arrogant voice called a few feet ahead of you.
You silently followed after them as you had for most of your journey. You felt scared of what could happen if the two of them got loose but you also knew what would become of you if you tried to stop them. And you being dead wouldn't necessarily help anyone either.
You kept on your way thinking of any way that you could get out of this. Your eyes stared down at the cement floor as you walked. Until something caught your eye. Your lips pressed tightly together as you looked down. There was a large stain, a blood stain. Your blood stain. It felt so surreal to see it now, it was splattered between light containment and the elevator to SCP-049's containment chamber.
You began to feel sick to your stomach, you bit your tongue at the feeling. You genuinely thought you were going to die there, you should have died there. After getting shot you were ready to accept death. Your left hand traced your shoulder feeling the bandages underneath your jacket. A feeling that you hadn't felt before circled you. Making you feel heavier and almost sick to your stomach. If it wasn't for-
"Are you alright?" A deep metallic voice echoed behind you shaking you out of your thoughts.
You swallowed, "yeah," you said quickly turning your head towards him. "Yes, sorry." You continued, realizing how long you had been standing there. Looking up at him, he slightly tilted his head at you. He seemed to almost have a sympathetic look to his golden eyes that was unfortunately quickly pushed back by his usual steady gaze. His head straightening up again.
A bright mask caught your eye when its expression changed from one resembling confusion to a huge smile.
"Interesting..." It mumbled looking from you to SCP-049. Its gaze suddenly gave you a different feeling inside. One that was only matched by that feeling at school when your friends would always give you a look when you were paired with some cute boy in class. It always made you feel flustered and annoyed, but now the feeling only made you want to hide.
"I beg your pardon?"
"Oh nothing, nothing," it said waving its hand around and sprinkling drops of black ooze everywhere. Your brow furrowed at its amused tone. "Let's get going shall we?" SCP-035 stated using its key card to easily open the infamous door into light containment.
Your cheek was already stinging by how much you had been biting it. Not too long ago you would have been ecstatic to make it into light containment... But now you were just one step closer to confronting a huge problem. One that if you tried to get out of, you would be as good as dead.
You hesitated before moving again, thinking on how you could change their direction... But as of right now there wasn't a way to do that, at least not without SCP-035 killing you or you getting locked back in heavy containment.
Taking a deep breath you followed after them, each of your hands gripping the opposite arm. You felt helpless again, just as you had felt before in the forest and as you nearly bled out there on the ground. And now you followed after them despite your fears. Despite your sinking helplessness you finally made it back to light containment.
----
"You never did tell me what you did to her."

It continued, still talking. You never thought you missed just being alone with SCP-049. It was so much quieter, then you could think. And you felt significantly less violated then, and after all you went through with SCP-049 it was kinda ironic. You'd think the person who had seen so much of you at your worst would be more likely to make you feel that way, but with SCP-035 you felt as if you had no privacy nor respect. But strangely you didn't hate the SCP, at least not completely. Somehow it was charming, but annoying and honestly a little intimidating despite its usual smile.
You made an effort to separate yourself from the SCP. Favoring to keep SCP-049 in between it and yourself.
SCP-049 sighed, "I didn't do anything. I just ran into her that's all."
It scoffed, "With a bus?"
Surprised you held back a laugh at its remark. It's humor helped its charm... Sometimes. And to be fair you did look like you went through a lot, because well, you did. You were sure if you survived this that returning to 'normal life' might be difficult after this experience. Honestly after most of your experiences in the facility. It's no wonder there were so many psychiatrists here, now you wished you actually took advantage of them. Instead of deciding to keep to yourself and refusing to acknowledge their existence.
SCP-049 eyed the mask as it laughed. It's demonic laughter grumbled and echoed through the hall.
It continued to talk leading to you watching the wall beside you as you walked. The sick feeling grew in your stomach remembering that the closer you got to the exit the more you had to figure out what to do. You could try to lead them astray, but chances were SCP-035 would ignore you or kill you. Running was stupid, especially under your circumstances. Choosing to stay in the facility and somehow lock the SCP's in here with you was a suicide mission. No ideas that you could think of would work, you were too small and too alone. Sure, by now you felt like you in someway have SCP-049 with you but as soon as he thought you were going against him, he would surely turn on you. Right?
Your heart already felt betrayed at the thought. Your eyes traveled up to him. You weren't sure what to do. There were too many variables, too many emotions, too many responsibilities and you were just... You.
You now just watched the floor as you walked, after having completely tuned out SCP-035. Moving without thinking your vision blurred into just a haze of grey. Everything seemingly merging into one long blob of grey walls and floors. As well as a cascade of thoughts distracting from watching where you are going.
---
Passing through another doorway into a large intersection. Still dazed and distracted by your thoughts. It took you a second to realize that both SCP-049 and SCP-035 had stopped behind you.
Looking back at them you followed their eyes to the clearing in front of you. Your face fell when you realized what they were staring at. The previously light grey walls were almost completely covered with an intense black goop. It covered the far wall almost completely, reaching up to the ceiling and covering half of the floor. The goop made a familiar gurgling noise that sent your heart racing.
You stared at a mass rising out from the floor. Your feet glued to the concrete as you watched the SCP materialize in front of you. Opening it's mouth to smile with those ugly yellow teeth. All at once the two SCP's by your side seemed so harmless compared to that monster in front of you.

SCP-106 laughed as it stared at you with those black soulless eyes.
"Lovely. Yet another waste of my-," SCP-035 stopped talking and somehow squinted at SCP-106 despite its face being a mask. "What are you wearing?"
It's blinking collar caught your eye. You noticed it before, but you weren't completely sure whether or not it was normal. But after SCP-035's reaction you think you got your answer.
SCP-106 swung its arm towards SCP-035 sending a dark glob of sludge at his face. You quickly snapped out of your trance moving backwards barely avoiding the ball of goop.
"What the hell man?" SCP-035 frantically wiped the sticky goop off of its mask. As it backed up against the wall.
SCP-106 made a step towards you. Your eyes widened as it mouthed something at you while it walked. The black tar traveled over the floor reaching out towards your feet. You moved to run until SCP-049 stepped in front of you. Staring face to face with the monster.
"Enough," he demanded holding out his hand and touching SCP-106's arm.
As you feared, SCP-106 didn't immediately die from his touch. It only hissed backing away and holding its arm. Reaching down it pulled out another glob of goop preparing to throw it again. Your stomach dropped when you looked into its black eyes, if anything all SCP-049 did was make it angrier.
SCP-049 didn't wait. Walking towards him over his floor of sticky goop he reached out and grabbed SCP-106's neck. His hand held just a little above SCP-106's collar.
Some sort of inhuman screech came out of its mouth as it writhed in pain from SCP-049's touch. Backing up as SCP-049 tried to drive it back into its dimension. In a blink of an eye, it lifted it's hand up again making a fist and slamming it across SCP-049's face sending him crashing on the ground.
You flinched when he hit the tar covered floor.
Gun shots echoed in your ears when SCP-035 took over. Shooting SCP-106 in his head and chest, your eyes traveled back over to SCP-049. Your breath caught when you noticed him sinking into the tar like goop. He struggled trying to pull himself out.
Racing from behind SCP-035 you made your way over to him.
"Hold on!" You called reaching out to him and letting him grab on to your outstretched hand.
You grabbed his hand and wrist with both of your hands and pulled with all that you had. Your shoulder felt as if it might rip in half from the strain of pulling SCP-049. The tar seemed to solidify around his waist. Your feet scrapped against the floor as the two of you worked to fight off the tar.
Your jaw clenched when your injured leg began to tremble under the pressure. With another hard pull your feet slid closer to the tar, the tips of your shoes growing threateningly close to the edge. Determined you forced yourself to take a step back pulling with all you had to keep him at the surface.
At first, he only sank faster while he struggled just as you had when SCP-106 trapped you. What changed this time is when three giant black tendrils came from the ground and restrained SCP-106.
After the tendrils began to squeeze him tighter the tar around SCP-049 began to give. Finally, SCP-049 slipped out of the tar, shooting forwards from both of your combined forces then crashed into you. You fell backwards from his weight and crashed onto the hard cement.
Your head and heart pounded after the fall. As well as your shoulder after both pulling so much, falling and now being crushed by SCP-049's weight. You struggled to take a breath. He had knocked all the air out of you, he was heavier than he looked.
You pushed against him enough for him to realize where he was. With a slight panicked look in his eyes, he quickly climbed off of you.
"I-I'm sorry," he stammered, surprising you yet again with a hidden burst of emotion. The surprise was enough too cool off your burning face.
"It's uh, ok"
Regaining his composure, he held out his hand for you, and to your surprise you took it. You didn't even hesitate. He easily pulled you up but let you go to find your balance again on your now aching limbs. And just when they were feeling better too.
After you were steady you finally realized that SCP-106 was gone. All that was left behind was a puddle, the disappearing tendrils and SCP-035 standing with a cocky expression plastered on it's mask.
You began to relax when the gurgling noise stopped and the room went quiet. SCP-106 was gone, At least for now. The stillness only lasted a moment before everything that happened hit you.
Your stomach squeezed slightly when you realized what you had done. You chose to help him, you didn't even think you just grabbed him and pulled. He could have killed you. You bit your cheek, but why would he? You felt silly thinking that as if that wasn't a huge possibility. Your heart sank, you were beginning to trust him again.
You put your hands in your jacket pockets. You had to remember what he had done. Dr. Ogami and Dr. Hamm came back to mind. Their stories front and center for you to dwell on and reconvince yourself of his true nature.
Your dwelling worked slightly, but you couldn't help but feel a sense of safety and dare you say trust. You hated it. You were going to die from it. Your hand reached up to rub your pounding head. As much as you told yourself that you still acted differently. You felt too many things, too many things at once. All contradicting each other, and all looming over your head.
And now staring at the remains of SCP-106's tar, one feeling rose above the others. You had to get out of this facility.
-------
After that encounter SCP-035 was surprisingly quiet. You were relieved, but it's silence was almost to the point where you felt a bit concerned. It gave you a weird feeling inside, like something more serious was going through its mind.
SCP-049 however, was about the same. Silent and calm as if nothing strange had happened. You couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable in the silence. Ironically enough since SCP-035's talking nearly drove you crazy just an hour ago.
Maybe it was not just the silence, but the intense feeling that had draped itself over the facility. Something was different you just couldn't put your finger on it.
Your feet felt louder than usual as they clanked on the steel mesh floors. The hallways were getting brighter now, you were getting so close to the exit. By now you knew that your apartment wasn't far from here.
You wished you could go and change, maybe shower but that would not only be risky, but you lost your key when you were mugged.
It seemed like no time before you were on cement again traveling closer towards the exit. A small pinch touched your gut, it was a little intimidating to see SCP's on this level of the facility. They were usually intimidating on any level but as the three of you passed the elevator to your apartments it made you thankful that you had always locked your doors at night.
It would be only minutes before the three of you would make it out. Your stomach began to drop at that fact. After seeing SCP-106 again it had reignited the need to leave, but that didn't stop the uncertainty of what these SCP's could do after they escape.
You froze in your place when you heard something call from behind you.
"Over there!" A voice broke the silence leading to you snapping your head over towards the commotion.
Hope filled your eyes, was it the MTF again? Did the reinforcements that the last team called finally come in? You were so close to the outside world but, with the MTF you could ensure not just the safety of yourself. You held your breath as they came closer hoping to see if it was true.
"Come on the exit is just up ahead! And we won't hesitate to leave you." SCP-035 yelled at you finally talking again.
You bit your cheek unsure of what to do. Before you could give it much thought you had a gun pointed at you. "On second thought I don't think I trust you not to come with us." SCP-035 continued making the decision for you.
You took a step hesitantly forward only to nearly fall backwards again when a gun shot fired from behind you, hitting SCP-035 in the chest and killing it instantly. You stared at its still form with shock evident in your eyes.
It's mask rolled off of its head exposing a horribly deformed and melted face. You quickly turned away to keep from gagging from the sight.
Multiple guards, or at least you assumed they were guards, wearing green uniforms walked in. You put your hands up, unsure of who these were, the MTF only wore black uniforms.
SCP-049 finally made a move walking towards the guards with his arm stretched out. They immediately lifted their guns making your heart race. Your breath caught in your throat when you saw one of their sleeves. On their shoulder was a patch... A black and white swirl with a red dot in the center... You had seen that before; you know you had. Then it hit you... The seal on the envelope, it had that same symbol. Did they plant the letter then? How did they get it into the facility? How did they know you? Who were they? Questions flooded your mind as you stared at them.
One of them lifted a tranquilizer gun and hit SCP-049. You flinched only to see him continue forwards as if nothing had hit him. They had to shoot him 6 more times before he finally staggered a little and landed on his knees. Once he was down, they chained him up and prepared to shoot him again. Before they fired the seventh shot you opened your mouth.
"Hey! Stop! He's already out! You don't need-" you froze when in unison all their guns aimed at you.
"It would be wise of you to stay silent Dr. (L/N)." One said nearly spitting his words at you. Then he gestured and the tranquilizer gun fired again, but not at SCP-049 this time. It hit you. You staggered back the world around you growing blurry and their voices fuzzy as a few of them worked together to carry out SCP-049. Taking another step back you fell to the ground, the last thing you saw was one of the guards approaching you. Your eyesight blurred and your body relaxed until everything went black.
