《DEAD IN BED By Bailey Simms: The Complete First Book》PART 7, SECTION 14

A total of nine refugees showed up at Ed's house, some on foot, others in trunks of cars that sped straight away after dropping them off. This number included a young couple with an infant, the three of whom Ed had been hiding in his hunting shack.
My third grade teacher, who had come to the granary, was nowhere to be seen. But the Botteroffs were there, quietly hanging on to one another, waiting for instruction. The rest were kids, two girls and two guys, I guessed ranging in age from sixteen to twenty. I didn't recognize any of them. They looked like maybe they'd been dumped into the quarantine zone from some Denver suburb.
Right away Chris distributed sandwich bags filled with antibiotics.
"Three times a day," he told everyone. "Don't forget. You're going to feel fatigued. There's no way around that. And many of you will experience unusually vivid dreams. But for now, this is the only way we know how to slow the progression of the disease."
Everyone eyed the pills warily, but I didn't see anyone who chose not to take one. None of the refugees looked like they were any later than stage two, and they were obviously terrified of moving on to stage three.
My plan was to ride through the night. Judging by my dad's map, I thought we'd be able to reach the ruins by sunset the next day, if we left right away. We couldn't afford to wait around. Ed said the Home Guard always arrived at his place in the evening on residential patrol, and it was already late afternoon.
I kept the horses tethered together, put people two to a horse, and told them basically to hold on tight. Nobody was happy when I passed around the blindfolds, but Ed gave a little speech and insisted that it was necessary to protect the secrecy of the hideout.
He handed me a pair of hiking boots, only one size too big, and hugged me.
"Good luck, Ashley. Thank you. You're a saint."
"Let's hope this works out," I said. . .

Manifesto
Sometimes, even the most outright affront to liberty seems to be justified under certain contexts. Or maybe I should stop reading about Stalin, I think it's affecting me.

Lesser Evil
In a perfect world, an alcoholic, hedonistic, mentally abusive individual like Audry Forge would never coincide with his attempts to stop the extinction of life. But there is no perfect world. There is no other person. Only the lesser of evils. Participant of the Royal Road Writathon challenge - 55k words Author's Note: This is story has been the easiest to write in my time of writing. I thoroughly enjoy it! You may not understand the premise in the first few chapters but need not worry buddy, I've been working ahead. Things will start rolling! I hope you enjoy it. Give me feedback and make sure to share it around! Other Info: Normally I wouldn't put any warnings but this story will be going down a pretty dark path (based on irl experiences) fairly early on. There will not be any overtly sexual content this early but some themes are suggestive. There is profanity. There are references to drugs and alcohol. There are dramatic relationships that I'm trying to base off of real life. There is more of a focus on characters. There will be unpleasant scenes in regards to death, while others will be brushed over. There will also be a fair amount of pop culture references too! Give it a try. You might like my form of storytelling!

A Hero Among Monsters
A worker goblin in service of a Dread Lord wasn't expected to do much more than maintain the sprawling, underground Machines Works. Although he imagined doing more, Tad had long accepted that he'd likely end up an old man like his boss, Glum, happily toiling among the gears and cranks. When an enigmatic orc named Hohza suddenly recruits the pair of goblins into his War Party, their duties to the Dread Lord Withering Sorrows switch to battling dwarves, sprites, and elves. If Tad survives, he may get to experience a world wider than he'd ever dreamed ... which may be too much for everyone else! New chapters are posted weekly on Thursday mornings.
