《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 33

I didn't know what was happening.
I couldn't understand why I was sitting on a bench in the park or why my heart was breaking. I didn't understand why tears kept falling from my eyes or why people passing by were staring at me.
Though I think it may have to do with me wearing a 379 million dollar dress. I didn't know how long I sat there, just crying my eyes out.
I looked around and proceeded to walk away when I heard someone calling me.
"Shuijing!"
I turned around and saw Meizuo, out of breath, and running towards me. My eyes widened and I quickened my pace but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"Where are you going?" He asked as he grabbed both my arms and made me face him, his eyes full of sorrow.
"I-I can't stay here Zuo. I can't.." I said as tears threatened to spill over my eyes for the nth time tonight. He didn't say anything as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me in a tight hug. I tried to keep it in but the dam burst. I sobbed as I tightly hugged him back as he continued to rub my back.
"I'm here Shui.. I'm here." He said as he placed a small kiss on the side of my head.
After a few minutes, I stopped crying as Meizuo led me back to the bench. He shed off his jacket and placed it around my shoulders. I smiled and leaned into him as I wrapped my arms around him.
"So.. where is everyone?" I asked and he sighed as he wrapped his arm around me.
"Probably at the bar, waiting for news about you. Ah Si had to hold back Shancai from fighting with your parents. I swear that girl is a human firecracker." He said and I laughed.
"How long have I been gone?" I asked.
"About an hour and a half. When we couldn't find you after 30 minutes, Ah Si almost called the national police to look for you and I agreed but Lei told us to calm down. Ximen took Xiaoyou, Li Zhen, and Qinghe home and Shancai stayed with Lei and Ah Si." He explained and I nodded.
"Oh and Jing's been calling you for the past hour but she said you weren't answering." He said and my eyes widened as I reached for my phone in my purse to see at least 20 missed calls and 30 messages from Jie asking where I was and that she was sorry. Does that mean she knew?
"Are you okay?" He asked and I sighed as I closed my phone and placed it back in my bag.
"I just.. I don't know. I'm still confused but hey. what a way to celebrate my 22nd birthday huh?" I forcefully joked and he frowned before moving away and getting up.
"What?" I asked, confused. He just smiled and held out his hand which I took as I stood up.
"Come on." He said as he pulled me with him as he walked.
"Where are we going?" I asked and he turned back slightly and smiled.
"I haven't given you my birthday present yet." He said with a wink and I lightly laughed as I followed him to his car.

Meizuo drove us to this building that was very dimly lit which made me slightly suspicious.
"Zuo, why is it so dark here?" I asked as I unbuckled my seatbelt and stared at the building in confusion.
"Just trust me okay?" He said as he smiled.
"Feng Meizuo, I'm warning you. If this is a goddamn horror maze, I'm never speaking to you again." I threatened as I pointed a finger at him which he laughed at.
"What if it is?" He said and I glared at him.
"Do I have to remind you what happened the last time you took me to a horror maze?" I said and he laughed. It was my 15th birthday and we all (The boys and Jie) decided to spend it at an amusement park and the last attraction we went to was a horror maze. It was so scary that I ended up giving Ah Si a black eye from shock and Meizuo just kept laughing at me the whole time.
"Let's go." He said as he got out of the car and headed over to my side, offering me his hand which I took.
We headed inside and I found it strange that no one was there except for the old lady at the desk, the man operating the elevator and I guess the manager? The lady gave Meizuo a key card and gave me a small smile. Meizuo walked over to the man operating the elevator and the manager. They were very discreet so I decided to ask the lady if she somehow knew what Meizuo had planned.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you dear." She said kindly and I pouted. I looked over at Meizuo who was still talking to both men.
"Your boyfriend is very sweet." She commented which made me blush.
"Oh! He's not my boyfriend." I explained, rapidly shaking my head in denial.
"Oh, he's not? Forgive me dear, I just assumed he was." She said as she smiled kindly.
"Why is that?" I asked curiously and she chuckled.
"You'll see dear." She answered with a wink which made me confused.
"What-"
"Shui, let's go." Meizuo said as he gestured to the elevator before grabbing my hand.
"It was nice meeting you!" I called out as i walked towards the elevator, giving the old woman a kind smile which she returned.

The doors of the elevator opened and it revealed the rooftop deck of the said building. Meizuo got out first as I gave him a confused look.
"Shall we?" He said as he held out his hand which I took as he led me near the viewing deck where there was a white couch, facing the skyline. In front was a table of food. My food. A platter of jalapeno and cheese quesadillas, a bowl of chili cheese fries, some orange rice, grilled chicken,a bottle of coke and water, and a small blueberry cheesecake with a candle on top sat at the very middle of the table.
"Do you like it?" He asked and I responded with a kiss on his cheek.

"Love it." I said as I took my seat and reached for a quesadilla.
"Mmm." I groaned as I felt the cheese melt with the jalapeno.
"Happy?" He asked as he chewed a piece of grilled chicken and I nodded happily.
"Best birthday gift ever." I stated as I poured myself a drink. Meizuo chuckled as he grabbed my hand, stopping me from drinking the soda.
"This isn't your gift." He said and my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"What do you mean?" I asked and he chuckled, clasping my hand in his and led me near the railing. The view was breathtaking.
"Look up." He said and I looked at him in confusion but proceeded to stare in awe of the night sky. The stars were twinkling so brightly that it almost looked like an ocean of diamonds.
"Wow. It's so pretty." I said as I smiled. I felt Meizuo wrap his arms around me, hugging me from behind as he rested his head on my shoulder.
"Happy Birthday Shui." He said as I leaned my head closer to him and sighed in contentment.
"Thanks Zuo. I thought my birthday was gonna end on a sour note." I said as he pulled away and made me face him.
"You think I was gonna let that happen?" He teased and I laughed as he cupped my face and placed a small kiss on my forehead.
"So where's my gift?" I asked and he chuckled.
"Close your eyes." He said seriously which made me laugh but I complied.
It was silent for a few minutes and I lightly laughed.
"Can I open them now?" I said as I smiled, eyes still closed.
"Okay. Open them." He said and I did.
I smiled, expecting Meizuo to be in front of me but my smile slowly dropped as I saw him kneeling in front of me. He held a blue velvet box that housed a beautiful rose gold ring. I gasped and my eyes widened.
He looked up at me with a kind smile and eyes full of adoration.
"Zuo?" I squeaked out and his smile widened.
"I-I'm not read-" I started but he held up his hand to stop me.
"Calm down Shui, this isn't an engagement ring.. At least not yet." He reassured as he stayed put.
"Then why?" I asked and he smiled and grabbed my right hand, bring it to his lips and placing a small kiss on it.
"Because this is a promise. A promise that when the time comes, I'll put a wedding ring on this finger and marry you for real." He said as he grasped my ring finger and slid the ring on it. I smiled as I grasped his hand tighter.
"So does this also mean you agree to be my girlfriend?" He asks and I nod happily as he smiles and hugs me tightly.
" I do have one question though." I asked and he pulled away, confused.
"What's that?" He asked and I smiled.
"Why would you wanna marry me for anyhow?" I asked and Meizuo smiled, getting the reference and grabbed my hands, and pulled me towards him. He wrapped his arms around my waist, tucking in a loose strand of hair behind my ear before placing his hand on my cheek.
"So I can kiss you anytime I want." He said as he smiled before leaning in and placing his lips on mine.

It had been 3 days and I haven't got out of the house. Meizuo had stayed over and the boys kept inviting me to come with them but I just couldn't.
But not today, Meizuo had convinced me to come see the boys so I reluctantly agreed.
Meizuo was driving us to Mingde. He stayed over the night before and I didn't have much planned so I decided to go with him.
"You okay?" He asked as he looked over at me, reaching for my hand and giving it a quick squeeze.
"Yeah. Just thinking about what happened. I still can't believe I'm adopted." I said sadly which prompted Meizuo to stop the car. I looked at him as he turned to face me, reaching for my hand and placing a kiss on the back.
"I know I'm in no position to say this but it'll be okay Shui. I'm right here okay?" He said as he placed my hand on his cheek and I smiled as he gave it a small kiss. I nodded and he smiled as he continued to drive to Mingde.
He dropped me off at the Clubroom because he still had classes. We walked downstairs and found Lei sitting on the steps near the shelf, polishing his violin.
"Meizuo. Shuijing." He greeted me as he placed his violin down and walked over to give me a hug.
"Don't you have class Lei?" Meizuo asked we all walked over to the steps and sat down.
"No. I don't have any classes today but I still have to practice for the recital later." Lei explained as Meizuo and I nodded.
"Well, I'll leave Shuijing with you, I gotta get to class." Meizuo said as he grabbed his book and stood up to leave but not before planting a kiss on the forehead.
"I'll see you later. I love you." He said as I smiled.
"I love you too. Bye." I said as I waved as he headed upstairs to leave. I sighed.
"How are you Shui?" Lei asked which made me frown slightly.
"To be honest Lei, I don't know." I said as I felt tears brimming in my eyes.
"Jing told me she's been calling you non-stop. Why haven't you been answering?" He asked and I sighed.
"Don't you think it's better if you talked to her? Shui, I know you're confused but Jing loves you okay? Even if you're not related, you know how much she loves you." He continued.
"Should I really talk to her?" I asked and he nodded. I sighed.
"All right. I'll call her later. Thanks Lei." I said and he nodded as I rested my head on his shoulder.
Under all my confusion, one question remained: Who are my parents?
