《Hiraeth || F. Meizuo》Chapter 49

It had been a few weeks since Ah Si was hospitalized then discharged after a few days. We held a small celebration for him along with Xiaozi, Xiaoyou, Li Zhen and Qinghe. A lot of time has passed since then, Ximen and Xiaoyou were now happily dating.
To say that all of us were shocked was an understatement. We all know Ximen wasn't the serious type in relationships but he seems really serious with Xiaoyou. He's kind and careful around the younger girl. Of course, he had to deal with multiple punches from Shancai who threatened him that if he made Xiaoyou cry, she'd make him pay.
Ximen being smart and not wanting to taste her flying kick, sincerely promised that he would take care of Xiaoyou. Ah Si and Shancai's relationship was also going well in fact, Ah Si proposed to her yesterday and I couldn't be happier.
Today, we were at the tea shop, having drinks and just talking. We all congratulated Xiaoyou because she had already been promoted to manager. But no one could be happier than Ximen.
"Who would've thought that the big-eyed, stubby girl with no grace would look so pretty and cute now?" Meizuo teased Shancai and I laughed as Shancai gave him a kind smile.
"I wish I could kiss her." Lei suddenly said and we all turned to him with wide eyes. Probably not the best thing to say with Ah Si beside him.
"I won't be able to see Shancai anymore when I go abroad. Are you jealous?" Lei teased as he turned to Ah Si who glared at him.
"Yes. I am jealous. Especially of you." Ah Si said through gritted teeth.
"Then I have to kiss her." Lei stated before getting up and swiftly kissing Shancai on the forehead. We all watched in shock. We didn't think he'd do it.
"Hey! Watch it! Lei! What's your problem?" Ah Si yelled, grabbing Lei by the collar who teasingly smiled at him. Meizuo and Ximen tried to calm him down.
"Calm down. It was just one kiss. It's fine." Ximen reasoned.
"Then I'll kiss Xiaoyou then!" Ah Si stated, looking at Ximen before getting up to kiss Xiaoyou who stepped away. Ximen quickly stood up to keep Ah Si away from his girlfriend, blocking him. Ah Si kept chasing Xiaoyou when Shancai suddenly called him out.
"Daoming Si!" She said, making Ah Si stop and look at her. She pointed to his chair, he frowned before slumping back down to sit. We all stared in awe and applauded Shancai.
"I guess Shancai was right. You are like a dog Ah Si." I joked and he glared in reply.
"Speaking of kisses, Meizuo, when are you going to propose to Shui?" Lei suddenly asked and I choked on my drink. Ah Si handed me a tissue as I wiped my lips while Meizuo patted my back.
"Lei, don't shock us like that." I scolded and he smiled.
"So what's your plan? You're not gonna let yourself be beaten by Ah Si's proposal to Shancai right?" Ximen asked and I looked to Meizuo who grabbed my hand.
"Soon." He said, smiling at me.
"Don't worry Zuo, I'm not in a rush okay? Let's take our time." I said and he smiled before kissing my hand.

I was helping Shancai cook because Ah Si and Auntie were coming over for lunch to talk about their wedding. Shancai declined at first but I insisted because I really wanted to help her out because she was panicking the entire night about what to wear and what to cook.

So here I was helping her set up the table as well as calming her parents down. Sooyeon had also sent over a cute dress for Shancai to wear as well as some extra food for lunch from my parents.
I had already helped her out with her clothes and make-up with the request that she looked simple and not too fancy. I was helping Uncle with his tie while Auntie fixed his suit jacket. I smiled as they fussed around, clearly excited that their daughter was getting married.
I smiled and I thought about what my parents would be doing when I was going to marry Meizuo. Would my parents fuss over tiny details too? I frowned when I remembered my other parents, the ones that raised me. If I invited them to the wedding, would they come? My thoughts were interrupted as Shancai called me over.
"Shui, Ah Si just called. He said they'll be over in an hour." She explained, phone in hand. I smiled and nodded before neatly tying Uncle's necktie.
"There you go Uncle." I said and he smiled.
"Thank you for all the help Shuijing. Please do thank your parents for us. This is even more food than we prepared." I nodded and smiled as Auntie thanked me.
"It's no problem Auntie. My family and I are glad to help. Besides, I have dibs on being a bridesmaid." I said, teasing Shancai.
"Of course, Shui. You're one of my bridesmaids along with Xiaozi and Li Zhen." She said and I hugged the younger girl.
"Come on, I'll wait with you guys until Ah Si and Auntie Daoming get here." I said and they all nodded before leading me to the couch.

An hour and a half had passed and they still hadn't arrived. I frowned. This wasn't like Ah Si to be late to meetings much less to a meeting with his in-laws. Shancai was getting worried and so was I.
Now that I think about it, Auntie has been particularly calm about their engagement. I had a sick feeling in my stomach that she may have had something to do with it.
"Hello? Daoming Si?" Shancai asked but her face widened slightly when she heard the voice answer.
"Mrs. Daoming." She stated and I looked at her before hurriedly walking to sit beside her. I could faintly hear what she was saying to Shancai.
"I just wanted to know if you and Ah Si are almost here. My parents and I are waiting for you." Shancai said cheerfully.
"I'm busy today. I won't be going." I heard her say and I frowned.
"But we agreed to it. You and Daoming Si were coming today." Shancai reminded.
"I just said that because Ah Si was with you. I was worried he would be tricked into having a wedding and doing something he would regret. Now, Ah Si is back with me. I've talked some sense into him. He won't be so impulsive anymore. After listening to me, he decided to go back to London with me. He'll never come back to Shanghai again." She said through the phone and I gritted my teeth.
'She's lying. Ah Si would never do that to Shancai.' I thought as I slowly rubbed Shancai's back. The poor girl was close to tears.
"Dong Shancai, you should give up on Ah Si. It'll never happen." Auntie delivered the final blow before hanging up.

"What is it, Shancai? What happened?" Auntie Dong said, walking over to the two of us.
"Mrs. Daoming said she won't be coming today. That day, she tricked us." Shancai said to the shock and anger of her parents.
"What? She lied to us? She won't be coming?"
"That's so rude. What is that witch doing?"
Her parents complained as Shancai looked down at her hands, trying to hold her tears in.
What the hell just happened?

I called Meizuo to find out where they were. They were supposed to have a bachelor's party for Ah Si that same night. Shancai and I concluded that maybe Ah Si was already at the hotel and Mrs. Daoming was just making things up. Ah Si wasn't in London, was he?
"Hello, Zuo?"
"Shui? What is it?"
"Where are you?"
"Why? We're at-" I could hear Ximen complaining in the background. Something about 'no girlfriends allowed' policy in a bachelor's party.
"Zuo, put me on speaker." I said and he said yes.
"Okay you're on speaker Shui." Meizuo yelled through the phone.
"Shui, come on. Can't you leave your boyfriend to have fun for one night?" Ximen complained and I heard Lei and Meizuo laugh.
"Yan Ximen." I said and the laughing stopped.
"I'm not in a joking mood okay. Something's happened and if you don't let Meizuo tell me where you are right now, you better say goodbye to your chances of having children." I threatened and I could hear Ximen hurriedly whispering to Meizuo to tell me.
"We're at the Ritz-Carlton babe. In room 120. Do you want me to pick you up?" Meizuo asked.
"No. I'm driving over there now with Shancai. Bye Zuo." I said before hanging up and getting in my car with Shancai beside me.

We arrived at the hotel in less than 15 minutes and headed straight for the room on the 7h floor. The door was slightly opened and I slid inside, Shancai close behind me. There were the boys dressed in their pajamas and were wearing different animal hats on their heads.
"Shancai. Shui." Meizuo said before standing up. I walked over as he pulled me in for a hug and kissed me briefly.
"Shancai, what's wrong?" Lei asked Shancai.
"Daoming Si... He won't be coming." She stated painfully.
"You mean, Ah Si and his mom didn't go to your house to talk about your marriage?" Ximen asked.
"No. They said they would come this noon. We prepared lunch. But they didn't come at all. I called Daoming Si and his mom picked up. She said that... she never wanted us to get married. She's sending Daoming Si to London. He's never coming back." Shancai explained.
"I'll call him." Ximen said before pulling out his phone and dialed Ah Si's number.
"Did Si already go to London?" Meizuo asked Ximen. I could hear Ah Si's phone ring. That was a good sign. It meant he was still here in Shanghai.
"Auntie Yu? It's me, Ximen." Ximen said and he looked at us before putting the phone on speaker mode.
"Why is it you who picked up the phone?" Ximen asked.
"Ah Si is too busy to pick up." Auntie Yu said.
"Auntie Yu, what are you talking about? We're holding him a bachelor party and waiting for him to come." Ximen explained.
"I'm telling you one more time. We're busy. Ah Si is busy. He can't pick up. Stop calling us." She said before hanging up.
"Hello? Auntie Yu ? Hello?" Ximen called out but the call was already disconnected.
"Auntie Yu sounded weird. Ah Si and Auntie Daoming didn't go to Shancai's house today. " Lei said, thinking about what happened.
"That's her way of stalling. She's stalling for time." Lei concluded and looked at us with wide eyes.
"Stalling for time? What is she trying to do?" Shancai asked.
"Regardless, the most important thing is to find Ah Si." Meizuo stated and I agreed.
"How do we do that?" Ximen asked.
"Auntie Yu gave us a hint. Ah Si is at home." Lei said.
"What should we do?" Meizuo asked.
"We should go there to check it out." Lei said and we all nodded.
"I'll go with you." Shancai said and I shook my head.
"Shancai, we're sneaking in. It could be dangerous for you, you shouldn't come. When we find him, we'll let you know." I told the younger girl.
I dropped her off before heading to the Daoming mansion by myself. The 3 of them were already waiting for me at the back door. The place was heavily guarded in the front so I parked my car near Ximen's car that was hidden behind the bushes.
I slowly tip-toed around and walked behind the garden to find the 3 of them standing behind the pillars. Meizuo held out his hand and intertwined our fingers just as Ximen reached for the key under the mat. He turned the key and slowly tiptoed inside, looking around for guards.
He gestured for us to come inside and Meizuo and I followed close behind Lei. I gripped Meizuo's hand nervously. We were about to walk to Ah Si's room when a bright light was suddenly thrown at us.
"What took you so long?" The person asked and I could faintly see Auntie Yu's face scrunched up in worry as she pointed the flashlight at us.
"I distracted the security guards with tea. I've been waiting for hours. Come with me." She said before leading us to Ah Si's room when Lei suddenly asked.
"What happened to Ah Si?" He said, making us all face him.
"She locked him up." She said before continuing to lead us to Ah Si's room. I frowned in worry when I saw Ah Si's state. He was unconscious in bed, his skin was pale and his lips were dry. He looked like he was sick. Auntie was holding his hand as she sat on a chair beside his bed. We all looked at Auntie in anger as she turned to face us.
"I thought that since you have all graduated, you wouldn't be so stupid. Yet, you're sneaking into our house again. Why does Ah Si have terrible friends like you? You even dragged Shuijing with you." She said, before looking down at my hand that was intertwined with Meizuo's.
"Auntie, even if we're terrible, we would never hurt our family members." Ximen defended.
"You're saying that I'm hurting Ah Si?" She asked, disdain laced in her tone.
"What are you doing right now then? Are you pretending to be a nurse?" Meizuo asked, anger in his voice.
"When can you finally grow up and think like adults?" She asked us.
"If you see us as adults, you should respect Ah Si and accept Shancai." Lei stated.
"Do you respect me? I couldn't let Ah Si be with someone whose background, intelligence, and appearance are so clearly beneath him." She said and I scoffed.
"And who do you think Ah Si should be with? You can't use Xiaozi because she's already made it clear to both her parents that she doesn't want to marry Ah Si. She's become one of Ah Si and Shancai's biggest supporters. Don't tell me that you're going to find another girl to marry Ah Si off, I doubt you can find someone that is more 'worthy' than Xiaozi. News flash, you can't. Shancai and Ah Si belong together and you can't do anything about it." I told her threateningly. She smirked.
"What makes you think I can't find a suitable girl for Ah Si besides Xiaozi? I happen to know just the right one." She said before pulling out her phone and showing us an article. It wasn't published yet but it was ready-made and on the front was a picture of Aj Si and the girl. Our eyes widened and I looked up at her, she had a smirk on her face.
"Now you know, that girl is going to marry Ah Si. I'll talk to her parents, I'm sure they'll agree and when they do, this article goes up as early as tomorrow." She said before closing her phone and putting it back in her pocket.
"They'll never agree to you! That girl is taken." Meizuo defended and Lei glared at Auntie.
"Her parents may not but I have my ways to make the girl agree." She said before walking out.
I was still in shock and I turned to Meizuo in shock. The image of the article was as clear as day.
