《Elijah》2

The boys had finally left and Kendall and I were finishing setting up the t.v..
"Movie night?" she asked.
"Of course," I responded.
I grabbed the remote and she sat on the couch.
"Soooo..." she began.
"What? You have a movie idea?"
"No. Well yea, but that's not what I was gonna say." she stated.
"Then what?" I asked and looked at her.
She gave me an obnoxious smirk and I looked at her in confusion, waiting for her to explain.
"What?" I asked again a little more aggressively.
"You and Eli?"
"Me and who?"
She sucked her teeth at me. "Eli! The guy across the street!" she explained.
"Oh. What about him?"
"Did you see how he looked at you? Especially after you said his name?"
"He looked at me the same way he looked at all of you. Intensely and like he was thinking of killing me and hiding my body in his backyard."
"...What?" she asked.
"Isn't he kind of...scary? To you?" I questioned.
"No, maybe a bit intimidating but I'm sure once we get used to him it'll be fine. You gotta admit he's hot."
That was true. He was very attractive but still so intense. I can't be in a relationship with a man that scary or strict. He was like a sergeant. He looked like the kind of guy to have anger management issues and only laugh on rare occasions.
"Yea." I responded.
I took a seat next to her on the couch.

The next morning I noticed we didn't really have any food for breakfast so I decided to go out and buy something then go grocery shopping later.
I hopped in my car and drove to the nearest cafe.
When I got there, the line was fairly long with about five other people waiting.
In front of me stood a man of large stature in a dress shirt and pants while on a phone call. His voice seemed familiar but I let it go. It was finally his turn to order.

"Large black coffee." he told the woman. Her eyes had a sparkle to them. He must be attractive.
'Black coffee? Large? What is he a psychopath?' I thought to myself.
"I'll have that right out to you. Can I get a name?" The cashier asked.
"Elijah."
'Elijah-...? Please no...'
This guy was damn near in a suit. Eli was like...I don't know...he looks like a menace to society and like he's no more than five years older than me not like he works for corporate. Maybe it was just a coincidence that they have the same name...and voice...and build.
As I was thinking, he turned to go to the side and headed to where two other people stood to wait for their drinks. He was still on his phone call so his hand blocked his peripheral vision, thus leading to him not seeing me.
"Next?" The girl asked.
"Oh, hi."
"Hi."
"Can I get-" I began ordering and something created goosebumps on my arms and I could feel my hairs stand up. I looked over to the other side of the counter where Eli stood and he was looking at me but as if he either couldn't see too well or he was trying to pinpoint where he'd met me before.
'Please don't tell me your memory is that bad,' I thought and looked back ahead.
The cashier gave me my total and I handed her my card then took my receipt and, like she told Eli before, she made me go stand at the other side of the counter by him.
I stood behind him and looked down at my receipt just in discomfort and awkwardness.
While doing so, the ground caught my attention and I saw his feet turn around and one ankle crossed over the other. I looked up and saw he was still on his phone call but he leaned against the counter while looking directly at me. My chest squeezed and I became flustered then hurried up and looked back at my receipt.
"Yea, we'll discuss it more when I get there. All right. I'll see you in fifteen. Bye." I heard him say.

I kept my gaze at the receipt even harder now that he was off of the phone.
"It's not that interesting." he stated.
I looked up at him, thinking he was speaking to me.
"What?" I asked.
"The receipt. It's not that interesting," he repeated.
"How would you know?" I wondered.
"Well, you know what you ordered, and you already knew the total, seeing as she told you it, also it's a small piece of paper, there isn't much written on it other than that." he explained.
"I was just doing the math in my head." I responded and looked back at the receipt.
"Are you trying to avoid looking at me? You could've been more subtle and stared at your phone."
"What? No." I replied but was still looking at the receipt. He made a valid point that embarrassed me but I couldn't just pull my phone out after he said it.
"Then look at me."
I lifted my eyes up before my head and then picked my head up all the way.
"I scare you or somethin'?" he asked.
"No..." I replied.
"That doesn't sound believable." he claimed then licked his lips. "You had the same look on your face when we first met."
Could he blame me? He looked like he's killed people before.
"You keep looking at me like that, you're gonna hurt my feelings, sweetheart." he stated.
"I'm sorry." I said truthfully. I didn't mean to make him feel bad, but I was already not much of a people person and he's just terrifying.
"It's fine. I promise I won't hurt you." he stated and his eyes traveled down my body. Which I didn't enjoy seeing as I was in joggers and a t-shirt and most likely looked like a homeless person.
"Are you judging my outfit?" I asked.
"No." he chuckled. At least I could make him laugh after insulting him.
"Aren't you a bit young to be-..." before I could finish...
"Elijah?" The cashier from before called him and he turned around to grab his coffee.
"What was that?" he asked.
"Nothing, never mind." I stated.
"M'kay, I'll see you later." he said and took a sip of his coffee.
There's no way that didn't hurt, he was just given that coffee, it had to be scorching.
"Nice shirt by the way," he said as he walked away and to the door.
I looked down and remembered I was wearing one of Kendall's shirts. On it was two hands where the breasts go. It took everything in me to not facepalm myself in public.
"Leyla?" The cashier called.

"It's a cute shirt, I don't see the problem." Kendall assured me. "Also you have really nice tits so they were perfectly placed in the shirt. Maybe that's what he meant."
"I refuse to believe he was staring at my tits."
"He's a man, Leyla."
"..."
"Exactly. Anyway, I can't believe you bumped into him the next day, it's like you guys are meant to be."
"Or we live on the same street so we share the nearest cafe?" I figured.
"Why are you so against love?" she sighed.
"I'm not 'against love' this is just the fourth time this month you've thought a man was the love of my life."
"It's the third. Don't be dramatic."
I glared at her.
"But I'm serious about this one. He looked interested in you when we met him and now you run into him at the same exact time, like not right after he left or right before he came, you entered directly after him, he calls you sweetheart, he doesn't want you to be afraid of him? Like come on, Ley."
"One, that was a coincidence. Two, he might call everyone that. And three, who WANTS people to be afraid of them?" I replied to all of her observations.
"You could be the only one he doesn't want scared of him." She continued to push the idea that this guy was the love of my life.
"Yea, sure, Ken."
