CLARY'S POV
Jace and I were standing face to face in the center of the room. Suddenly the lights dimmed and the ceremony began. I could see the excitement in his eyes.
Izzy and Alec were there along with Magnus, Luke, Maryse, Robert, and Max. They all looked happy for us. Everyone except Izzy. While she had an encouraging look in her eyes she gave me this... look. A look of 'do what's in your heart.' I took a shaky breath. "You ok?" I heard Jace ask me. I gave him a fake smile. "Yeah. Let's do this." I said. He smiled once again and we began the ritual.
"Wherever thou goest, I will go." Jace began. "Where thou diest, will I die." I said. "And there will I be buried The Angel do so to me, and more also, If aught but death part thee and me." Jace finished. I was supposed to repeat the same line as he did. Then we would get the parabatai rune. He looked at me waiting for me to continue. I could feel my heart stopping. It was dead silent in the room.
Jace looked at me with question in his eyes. I started to speak. "And there... there will I...I." I stuttered. I looked at Izzy in desperation. Her eyes were encouraging. She mouthed the word "go" to me and I knew what she meant. Everyone else looked confused at my stopping. The Silent Brother that was doing he ceremony spoke to me. "Clary Fairchild, please continue." He said to me. I began to speak once again. "I be.. burri–" I stopped again and slowly backed up. "I'm sorry Jace." I whispered to him before running out of the room.
I could hear the shocked gasps coming from the room. I could hear Jace calling my name in confusion and hurt. I ran upstairs to my room and locked the door. I fell to the floor near my window and started to cry. I had broken Jace's trust. After all the years of training I bailed on him. And all because I liked him. There was no way he would want me. Especially not after this

I heard a small knock on the door. "Clary?" I heard the voice say. I could tell it was Izzy. I walked over to the door and unlocked it. I went back to my spot crying while she walked in. "Oh Clary." She said when she saw me crying. She ran over to me and hugged me.
I cried into her shoulder as she held me closely. "I'm so sorry Clary." She told me. I shook my head no. "It was my choice and my fault." I said shakily. She lifted my chin up so that I was looking into her eyes. "You did the right thing. You love him. It's ok." She said. Another tear fell.
"Tell him, Clary. He will understand. I promise." She told me. I shook my head fiercely. "No!" I began. "He hates me for what I did. And after what I just pulled he probably wont ever want to talk to me." I said to her.
"Clary?" I heard a voice coming from the door. Izzy and I looked up to see Jace in the doorway. I got up suddenly and another tear fell. "Clary can we–" he started but I ran for the balcony. I took out my Stele and activated one of my runes. I could hear Jace running through my room to the balcony with me.
I ran and jumped up. I was just about to go over the balcony when a hand grabbed my arm and pulled me back. I fell backwards and Jace caught me. I felt my heart stop like the morning before the ceremony happened when Jace held me. "Let me go Jace." I said trying to escape. He wouldn't let me. Instead he turned me around so I was looking at him. He cupped my face with his hand and wiped my tears away.

"Jace," I began, but he interrupted me by pressing his lips into mine. I was shocked at first, but I kissed him back. Almost immediately after I kissed him back he pulled away. "That's what I thought." He said to me. "What?" I questioned. He looked back at me. "The only reason someone doesn't go through with a parabatai bond is if the other likes them." He said.
My face fell and I turned away from him. He forced me to turn back to him and look at him. He gave me a smile. "That's why I'm glad you didnt go through with it." He told me. "What?" I managed to get out. He gave a small laugh and kissed me again. This time I smiled against his lips.
I suddenly pulled away and he looked confused and hurt. I looked around him. "Izzy." I said loudly through the balcony door. I saw her throw her hands up in defeat. She turned and walked out of my bedroom. Jace and I laughed.
I wrapped my arms around his neck and stood on my tiptoes. "I love you." He whispered to me. I kissed him gently. "I love you." I murmured against his lips.
