《Clace one-shots》The Dreams I Caught {3}

ALEC
My day was like every other day. Busy, annoying, and crazy as hell. I had been moving around the Institute attending to meetings, filling out paperwork, and looking out for demon activity in nearby areas.
I had just moved back up into my office for the third time today to fill out something for the Clave. They always knew how to get me on edge. But my anger wasn't what stopped me from my work. It was the fear I felt when I heard the screams from the other room.
In a split second I got up from my chair and ran towards the neighboring bed rooms. I threw each one open searching for where the noise came from.
I heard another scream and I ran faster towards Clary's room. "JACE NO!" I heard her scream. More worry raced through my body as I saw the scene before me. The first and only thing I noticed was Jace colliding with the ground.
I immediately went over to him while pulling him close to me. "Jace? Jace!" I asked desperate for an answer. I waited but there was no reply. "Jace?" I asked one more time. All the hope inside me drained away.
My eyes gazed forward and mets Clary's. "What happened?" I asked almost angrily. There was so much confusion in the air I didn't know what emotions I was feeling.
"Alec I...I dont kn..know how to fix...hi..him." She stuttered while tears fell down her face. "Clary?" I asked desperately. "What made him like this." I asked her desperately. She took a deep breath in attempt to calm herself down.
"He touched it." She said wile motioning to the object hanging above her bed. I nodded and picked Jace up in my arms. "Keep talking." I instructed her. "We need to get him down into the infirmary." I finished while walking out of the room.

"I was just coming back to my room to grab something for Izzy when I saw him just about to touch it. I tried to tell him not to but it was to late. And then he just.... collapsed." She explained while we ran down the stairs.
"Alec?" I heard Izzy ask from across the room. Her eyes grew wide at the sight of us. "Jace." She breathed out as she ran down the stairs with us.
"What happened?" She asked with worry. Clary filled her in, but my attention wasn't on them. It was on the way Jace was laying there. Motionless.
He looked lost and alone.
The only words I heard in the background were, "I told him not to touch it."
I lifted my head up to look at them. "Why?" I asked. "What?" She asked in a quiet voice. I stood up. "Why didnt you want him to touch it?" I asked her again. My gaze was stern, but my voice was a little softer. Her head dropped slightly and she removed her eyes from my line of sight. I knew she was keeping something from us.
"Clary?" I asked her with more softness in my voice. I knew she wouldn't explain if I was angry with her. "Tell us." I coaxed. I watched her fidget for a moment before she began speaking.
"What he touched...its called a Dream Catcher." She told us. She took another deep breath before continuing. "There are things that have happened to me when I was younger. Almost every night since then, Ive had nightmares."
"But Dream Catchers are harmless. They shouldn't have done something like this to Jace." I said to her. She sighed.
"This one was made specially for me. It was made with magic to capture the bad dreams I have. Once they are collected, they don't go away until they are touched by me. But they never truly go away. If someone else were to touch it...." she stopped speaking and a tear rolled down her cheek.

"Then that person would see those dreams." Izzy finished. Clary shook her head. "Not see." She replied while taking another breath. "Relive." She finished.
My breathing stopped. I could feel tears springing to my eyes. "Clary what did you go through?" I asked her. I was afraid of the answer she would give. I was terrified it would be terrible.
"Valentine used to abuse me and beat me until I got something right." She said. Her voice was cracking and tears rolled down her cheeks.
My face went white with fear. "Alec im so sorry." She said while crying. "I didnt know he was going to do that or I would have stopped him. I'm so sorry." She apologized again. I couldn't speak. I was to scared for Jace.
I turned my attention back towards him once again. "Come back to me. Please Jace." I whispered to him. I placed one of my hands on his parabatai rune and the other on mine. "Come back to me Jace." I whispered again.
The only response I got was the tension and pain coming from the bond.
