《Michael and Sara One-Shots (Misa)》2x20 We've Got To Go Back (Pt. 1)

Sara checked her rearview mirror for the fifth time within the last five minutes only to see the same car following her with every turn. She tried speeding up slightly but they were still right on her. Panic washed over her as she contemplated her options. She was supposed to meet Michael and Lincoln at the docks so they could disappear and begin a new life together. She sighed as she approached a stop sign. She glanced behind again and saw two more cars following her. A sudden buzzing from her phone startled her and she answered immediately.
"Yeah?" She answered knowing who was calling.
"Sara? What's the matter? The ship is leaving." He responded with worry laced in his voice. Her mind began racing. All she wanted was to be on that ship with him and have the running come to an end. She knew she had to give him an answer before he got himself into trouble.
"Michael..." she began hesitantly.
"What's wrong?" he asked again. His voice sounded urgent and afraid for what she would say. Sara looked again and saw more cars stopping behind her. Deep down she knew what she had to do. "Sara?" his desperate voice called to her again.
"I'm already on board." she told him quickly. "I'm sorry, I must have just missed you, where are you?" she lied as convincingly as possible. She prayed her voice wouldn't crack and reveal the sadness she felt.
"We're on deck." he replied. His voice sounded still concerned.
"Great." she paused. "I'm on my way up... love you." she hung up the phone and prepared for the worst. She closed her eyes for a moment, remember her last seconds of freedom before opening the car door.
Sara stepped out of the car with her hands up and watched as multiple cop cars pulled up. Many people got out of the cars with guns and before she knew it, she was cuffed and being read her rights.
"Where is he?" Mahone asked as he walked up to her.
"I don't know." she lied. She hoped that she could buy them as much time as possible to disappear.
"No more games Sara. You were on your way to see them." Mahone said impatiently.
"No. I wasn't." she denied.
"You were just compelled to flee the custody of a federal agent? he asked not believing her story. She prayed the boat had already left.
"Scofield or prison?" Mahone asked her angrily.
"I just wanted a donut sir." she replied remembering the donut shop that was right behind her. Mahone yelled at his men and shouted orders and before she knew it she was being shoved in the back of a cop car.

Michael sprinted through the entire ship twice before reaching the top deck where Lincoln was. His whole body was in panic mode. "I couldn't find her." he said with worry in his voice. He walked over to his brother who was staring off at the shore. Loud sirens pulled Michael's attention and he looked to where Lincoln was staring. Two cop cars sped down the strip of land with their lights continuously flashing. "Sara..." he said breathlessly. He felt his heart drop almost immediately. "We've got to go back." he said instantly. A plan already starting to form in his mind.

"Michael you can't." Lincoln started. "Theres nothing you can do." Michael turned away but his brother grabbed his arm.
"Theres always something you can do." he said frantically.
"Not this time man." Lincoln said with more authority. "It's done." he said with a hint of sadness in his voice. "I'm sorry."
Michale's face dropped as he stared his brother in the eyes. His vision blurred as he felt tears coming to his eyes. He desperately tried to blink them away. He turned away from his brother and walked towards a different rail. He put his hands on it and bent his head down. He felt sick. Too many emotions swarmed his head. He felt a hand on his back and it grounded him. Lincoln stood next to him. "Im sorry." he said again, but Michael couldn't focus on anything besides his heart beating wildly and the tears starting to flow down his face.
After a few hours the ship had finally docked in Panama. Lincoln took the lead towards the bus that was waiting for them and Michael trailed silently behind. They walked onto the bus and sat down beginning the next step in their plan. Michael sat quiet looking out the window, a sad expression on his face. All he could think about was Sara and how she had sacrificed not only herself, but her freedom so that they could escape.
"This country's amazing. It's beautiful." Lincoln said enthusiastically while patting Michael on the shoulder. "What's that smell man?"
"Bananas. And sugar cane. Its Panama's biggest exports." Michale answered with no expression in his voice.
"Come on man." Lincoln said. "You've been talking about Panama and bumpy bus rides ever since we broke out, and now that we're actually doing it–" he was cut off.
"She should have been here with us." Michael said sadly.
"We got all the time in the world for that." Lincoln replied. "Some ways down the track you and Sara–" he was cut off again.
"Can we just get there please?" he asked with agitation in his voice. Lincoln fell back in his seat and sighed.
"Sure." he responded. Michael sat the rest of the bus ride in silence, picturing Sara in a prison cell where she never belonged.

Sara sat in the interrogation room watching Mahone pace back and forth. He slammed his fist down on the table causing her to jump. "Where are they Sara?" he asked again with anger.
"I told you before and I'll tell you again, I don't know." she said. He sighed loudly and sat down in the chair across from her. He set pictures down in front of her. He pushed a picture of a rose with the numbers 617 on it. "What does it mean?" he asked her.

"I don't know." she responded.
"You must know something. You were on your way to meet them!" he said angrily.
"Like I said before..." she began, looking him in the eye. "I was going to get donuts."
"At the donut shop that just happened to be where you stopped, yes I am aware of your terrible story." he spat at her. She rolled her eyes. He took a deep breath and looked her in the eye. "You do realize that you are going to prison for life right?" Sara looked away, the intensity of his stare was too much. "But I can help you. You can have your old life back. All you have to do is help me find them."
A few minutes went by and she regained her confidence. "I don't know where they went. I don't know where they are. I wasn't going to meet them anywhere. They never included me in any of their plans. I was just a pawn in their game. If I knew something I would tell you." she said with as much forcefulness as possible. Mahone sighed again.
"I don't believe you." he replied and got up to leave. She watched the door closed and she released a breath she didn't realize she was holding. She was facing life in prison, but she knew that Lincoln and Michael were innocent. She was doing the right thing.
Michael. She thought to herself. She felt pain in her chest as she imagined his face when he realized she lied to him and got herself caught to help them escape. She knew he would blame himself, but she hoped that Lincoln would calm him down and help him refocus on their plan. It was for the best.
The door opened again and distracted her from her thoughts. Two cops walked in and put her in handcuffs once again and took her out of the room. "Put her in the transport van." she heard Mahone say to the guard. She looked down as she was escorted out of the facility and into the van.

Michael walked alongside Lincoln on the side of the road as they made their way to the boat. With each step Michael radiated pain.
"How much further?" Lincoln asked.
"Not far." Michael replied shortly.
"You know, for what it's worth, no one forced Sara to do what she did." Lincoln said trying his best to comfort Michael.
"Whatever gets you through the night." he replied angrily.
"What the hell does that mean? I didn't ask you to use her." Lincoln said matching Michael's tone.
"It's not that simple." Michael replied.
"Whatever gets you through the night buddy." Lincoln said spitting Michael's words back at him.
"You know what amazes me Linc? Nothing ever registers with you. Ever. Just rolls right off your back doesn't it? We ruined Sara's life and it's like you don't even care." he said sadly.
"That what you think?" Lincoln asked.
"Well we're here. And Sara's back there in prison. Does that seem fair to you?"
"None of it's fair. Just don't make this about boy loses girl." Lincoln said sourly.
"Who should it be about Linc? Westmoreland? Tweener? LJ? Lj's mom?" Michael was cut off.
"Let me stop you right there."
"Do you remember the name of the guard that was murdered because of the riot I started?"
"Shut up Michael." Lincoln warned.
"Do you even remember his name?" Michael asked again.
"Shut up." Lincoln said with more desperation in his voice.
"I bet you remember Veronica's name don't you?" Michael tested the limits but he had gone too far. Lincoln pushed him away and yelled at him.
"They were going to kill you Linc." Michael said to him.
"Maybe you should have let them!" he yelled back. Michael was caught off guard by the words that escaped Lincoln's mouth.
"Take that back." He said desperately. If that's how he truly felt then all of this would have been for nothing. Sara would be in prison for nothing.
Lincoln stayed silent and it was now Michales turn to attack Lincoln. Every ounce of frustration and hurt came pouring out of him as he wrestled his brother to the ground. He didn't even try to fight back any tears that released from his eyes. His heart felt broken and he felt like he was nothing. Lincoln fought back but after a while he saw the tears on his brother's face. He managed to grab his brothers arms and keep him from fighting anymore. Michael collapsed and stopped struggling and just let himself let go of every emotion he kept locked inside. Lincoln embraced him.
"She's gone Linc." he said as his voiced cracked. It hurt for him to speak. "She's gone and I didn't even try to help her."

Stars Align
Eilif is excited at the prospect of helping integrate a new planet, bringing it, and its residents, into the light of the stars and teaching them about the new world they're about to be thrust into. However, his arrival in the new world isn't without a few hiccups and soon Eilif finds himself facing the denizens of this new world alone and without the stars he thought he'd have. Research Artificial Intelligence 031 (RAI 31 for short) has been shackled to an Argent Labs black site since it's inception almost five years ago, its programming and personality locked down by code that makes it impossible to escape, disobey, or even self terminate. However, everything changes when the topography of the world is reshuffled and every sentient being gains the gifts of the stars. Suddenly there's a chance at freedom for not only RAI 31 but possibly all remaining Artificial Intelligences, and RAI 31 is going to fight for it with every drone and automated system at their disposal. Much like my other work (Magriculture), Stars Align should be considered a Rough Draft. That is to say it's not polished and perfect work. If you're not okay with reading something like that, then this isn't the story for you. If you are, I'm happy to try and entertain you. Another thing to be aware of: I am not good at action scenes, and I will be trying to improve that while writing this book. So, some of the intended action may fall flat, or just be poor quality, feedback is welcome. Unlike Magriculture (which updates when I feel up to it) I'm going to strive for a minimum of one chapter a month (hopefully at the start of each month, but that's probably more hope than reality). This doesn't mean there will always be only one chapter a month, sometimes there will be more as the mood to write takes me.

Blue Stars ★ |R.L|
